Biography
My name is Ian Husbands, or 8, or Hippie, or Ocho, or 8MM, or even 8** sometimes.
I am a graphic designer by day and musician by night, full-time husband of iComp artist Toni1 who collaborates with me a lot and father to our son Morgan and daughter Evie!
I am a singer/songwriter who primarily likes Rock and Alternative music, but as a Producer I like to experiment and try different styles, so my music is occasionally not what I would expect from myself. I have worked as a manager of indie artists and tribute bands, a booking agent for local venues and small festivals, been a Musical Director for a "Band Builder" Music School, done a bit of stage management and also been a graphic designer for many large record companies and artists, including EMI (David Bowie, Joe Cocker), Parlophone (Beastie Boys), Sony/BMG (T.L.C.), Universal Music, Telstar, K-Tel and many more.
I sing in a covers band called "From The Ashes" playing rock covers in pubs at weekends and also sing and MC in the fREAK-Jam-Band, where we run a regular jam-night at The Rising Sun in Slough every Thursday night, which has been running over 15 years now.
I tried the whole being a famous rock star thing for about 10 years, with a band called fREAK-1-C. We played festivals, sometimes to crowds of 5000, released an album, played live on radio shows, had songs on the cover CDs of music magazines and generally had a great time in the process. But all good things come to an end, and we split, so I tried again under the name of 8 Month Malfunction, where I managed to get a 3 song publishing deal with a small company called Electric Horse Songs Ltd. We released a single called "Mourn" and then again, life happened and the project was shelved...
But I kept the name and found a new home hear at iCompositions.com
My music is now is much more fun and diverse. I have found myself playing my Ukulele a lot of late, but I sing, play some guitar, a little bass, some keys and can program drums or use loops. I work on an iMac and mainly use Garageband and Logic Pro in tandem, as I find each has different qualities for different applications. I will dabble in any genre and like to try and vary what I write and record by setting myself rules for each song and collaborating with different artists.
I also produce videos working in Final Cut, and also do some Legomation and animations. Check out the video's I have made for a good friend Paul Miro: http://www.youtube.com/user/apemanmiro
I also act as a producer and panelist for MSI: Music Scene Investigation, which is a music reviews podcast and live netcast with Rich Wildman and Tom Chianti. Each week we are joined by a music industry guest and review 3 songs submitted to us by indie artists. Check out the website at: http://www.musicsceneinvestigation.com
