Biography

So, having spent some time in the chat room with many of you lovely iComp people, I keep getting asked questions about my music, and what I have got up to in the past, so I thought I would add a slightly more detailed biography to fill you all in a bit more...

I started in music at 19 as a manager/songwriter for a girl called Jo Berns who was giving me singing lessons. We wrote some tunes, put a band together and entered a few battle of the bands, of which we won. Unfortunately Jo was busy with lots of covers and tribute work to keep money coming in and eventually writing original music lost priority for her and the project was shelved never to be picked up again...

During that time I stated working with another band manager, Quentin Reynolds and together we set up the female fronted "Escapade"... We wrote a few songs and the one and only gig the group ever played was at my 21st birthday... It wasn't long after that they went their own ways...

But like a phoneix from the ashes, the musicians in Escapade called me up and wanted me to write and sing with them as a new band. Stephanie Lamoureux who was one of the main singers in Escapade was also brought in and "Married By Name", soon to be renamed to "Ultra High Frequency" was born. We wrote, played battle of the bands competitions, festivals and gigged all over London until eventually a few key members went their own ways...

fREAK-1-C (mk I) was originally a side project of 'U.H.F' with guitarist/bassist Jim Taylor, acting as an acoustic duo playing covers in pubs and clubs and recording a few original tunes outside of the band with drummer/producer Paul Miller. Eventually Jim left to have a family and Paul and myself put a new band together around the name fREAK-1-C and mk II was born, with ex U.H.F guitarist Paul Vale.

We gigged, recorded and eventually split as one of the guitarists lied to us about having cancer... It was a heavy time, but people eventually persuaded me to get a new line up for the band and fREAK-1-C mk III was born... Again life was good, and we played gigs, festivals, recorded more songs until one guitarist quit and we sacked the drummer... But we had built up lots of momentum and weren't to be stopped, so a new guitarist and drummer were recruited and fREAK-1-C mk IV was alive! Probably at the best the band had ever been with the strongest line-up it had seen, fREAK-1-C finally entered Fortress Studios, London in 2004 and recorded the long awaited first album "Swimming With The Big Fish". The album received good reviews and press and sold a few hundred copies on the local and indie music scene, but eventually the split due to the fact that no one really wanted the pressure of organising the band and acting as manager!

Around that time I also split with my fiancee (who was also the backing singer for fREAK-1-C), lost two jobs and my flat in a few short months... Life was looking dreary and I ended up staying with iComp artist Nadiestar for a few months, drinking and smoking far too much while I tried to get my head straight...

Over that time I met my new girlfriend, iComp artist Toni Jones (Toni1) and I signed a 3 song publishing deal with Electric Horse Songs Ltd. giving birth to my new project '8 Month Malfunction', produced by Jo Webb who had also produced Nadiestar's first album "The MNaughton Rule".

8 Month Malfunction released its first single on 21•08•06 called "Mourn" and is now rehearsing as a full band getting ready to gig in 2007, with a second single "Undecided" due for release sometime soon, with a video to accompany the release. See www.myspace.com/eightmonthmalfunction for more info, and buy 'Mourn' and its B-Side 'Hurting' from iTunes for only 79p (GBP).

I run a weekly Jam Night every Thursday at the Rising Sun in Slough, which has seen the rise of bands, friendships and releationships and has become the hub of our social group. Check out www.freakjam.co.uk for more info.

Myself and Toni also have just started writing music for film/tv/games/podcasts with a view of eventually making a small business out of it. Check out www.badhippiemusic.info

What the future hold musically is yet to be seen for me, but I will always be writing and hope that everyone enjoys the music I have made and will make in the future... For more info on me, check out www.myspace.com/ianhusbands
