Kept me entertained throughout the song. Great mix. I love the changes and the general mood.

Very powerful and demanding song. I think the drums need a little more presence though. Not necessarily louder, but maybe more depth. I think the kick needs be heard more. Other than that, there's a lot of interesting guitar parts and moods throughout the song. Very well done.

Really fine guitar work. Good composition over all. Love the mood changes throughout the song. Definitely a Maiden feel to it in some parts.

"vocals were recorded with the built-in MacBook microphone" This is the same way I recorded my first song in GarageBand years ago. Very progressive metal feel to this song. I agree with making the guitars more present. Try doubling up (or more) the guitar tracks and panning them for a wide sound. Love the interlude. Very powerful and emotional.

Love the epic intro and latin infused, progressive rock sound. Great mood setting transitions. The selling point for me is the interlude passed the half way point. excellent instrumentation and builds. Very well done.

Nothing special on the Amplitube 2 settings. It starts with the preset StereoHeavy 2, low cut, and some EQ. No additional compression. This one was panned at -26 to the left. The rest of the guitar tracks are GuitarRig 2 with EQ and compression, each panned wide to build a nice wall of guitars.

Herrsolera - thanks for the comments. We try to make songs that have a lot of depth. Play it a few times and you'll hear something you missed the last time. I've been told I sound like Ozzy (Sabbath era), but the Layne Staley comparison is a much bigger compliment to me. Thanks. I have to agree that the ending is really killer. Mike and Carlos did an awesome job coming up with that outro. Very haunting. Thanks again for all the great comments.
City of Pyramids by Agrippa93 4 months ago
All the guitars are real, but run through GuitarRig or Amplitube as an amp model. There are a total of 33 tracks to this song: 8 distorted rhythm guitars, 3 acoustic, 3 lead guitars, 6 vocal, 1 piano, 3 synths, 2 bass, and 7 drum tracks for each kit piece. I greatly appreciate the comments on the production, because it's something I've been working very hard to improve on. Thanks for listening.

Great flow. I love the concept and feel of this one. I agree that the vocals could be a little for forward and the distortion can still be achieved without losing the lyrics with some EQ. Good work.

Very powerful stuff. Reminds me a bit of Dream Theater. The vocals sound great for a pb mic. I did that on my first few songs, but not with that Much success. You can get a good condensor mic for not too much $ and it will really bring out your sound. Check out the MXL 990. Looking forward to hearing more.

Excellent mix of techno and metal. Kept me interested for the whole song. You have a nice variety of crunchy guitar sounds. I heard some Ministry and KMFDM influence there. I think around 3/4 of the song in, the guitar rythm sounded a bit off. Not sure if this was intended or not.

This song rocks and sounds very live. Sounds like a little influence from Type O or Celtic Frost or even Fang. There sounded like a few parts that were a bit off, but that just adds to the live feel.

Love the dismal guitar. The playing sound tighter on this song, but still needs a little more. This reminds me of early Type O Negative, before they really developed their signature sound. The chicken sample is great and nicely placed.

No one has touched this song yet, so I'll give you my input. I think this song has potential if you focus on a few things: 1) I like the hard guitars and the sweet sounding snare, but if the playing on the drums and guitars is tightened up a bit, it will be right on the money. 2) I noticed some hard "P"s on the vocals and that can be prevented on recording by throwing a popscreen on the mic. 3) EQ the rythmn guitar to filter out some of the fuz. I'm all about distortion, but it's sounding a bit pale. 4) Work on finding that sweet spot for each instrument in the mix.

The song reminds me of old punk band called "Fang". I get that you are looking for a live band recording, but I think it would benefit if each instrument was recorded separately on there own tracks. I could be way off and this is the sound you are looking for and that's fine.

I would probably classify this as fusion rock more than metal. The mix sounds like it's a live performance, but I'm not sure if that's what you are aiming for or not. Nothing a little EQ'ing couldn't fix. Your guitar playing for this song is very organic and if tightened up a bit would really stand out. Ease back a little on the reverve too. It will bring your guitar forward. I like the way the song seems to go in different direction, although some of the loops you chose need to blend together better.

Concept 4: I gave you a 4 for concept because of the freeform jam feel.
Creativity 4: for not really adhereing to the standard song formula.
Performance 2: Like I said before, I think it could be tightened up a bit. There is potential.
Production 2: I think it needs to be mixed more and the loops need to gel together better.

Good start. Keep it up.

Vocals are still a bit of a struggle for me. I'm looking into getting some outside vocal coaching to widen my limited range. Most of these songs I'm already straining to push my limits. Great suggestions. Thanks for the input.
Divinity, I Invite by Agrippa93 3 years ago
This one will be tweek quite a bit. I'm in the process of rerecording the vocals and adding another vocal track to give it some meat. All the old songs were recorded using a cheap mic and came out too muddy. I have the right gear now to do the songs justice. There has been a bass track added in the upcoming release and the guitar will be EQed to tone it down. Thanks for the comments.

Nice sound. This reminds me of Gavity Kills or Zeromancer. The various transitions definately kept my interest. You got some seriously sick sounding sequences there. The main vocals are a little to raw for my taste, but that's just personal preference. Great job.

Nice "gothic" sounding intro followed by heavy contrast. I like the meaty guitars and the drums stay with the theme instead of being repititious. There's some pretty bold vocals playing off of each other which work well.

I'm not going to rate this, because I don't think it's done. If you could mix Pink Floyd and The Cure together, this is what it would sound like. Not a bad think. Just an observation. I think if you took this idea and built on it you would get some great results. It sounds like maybe you ran out of ideas. I have half a dozen of songs in this stage that may or may not become anything at all. If you're stuck, try looping what have and listen to it over and over again, building instruments on top of it in your head. You might eventually stumble on something that works perfectly and expand on that. This is just advise.

Ahhh! Now your getting my attention. Out of all of your songs, I like this one the best, only because it hits on my genre of choice. I'm really digging the sequences and samples and love the fresh bass sound. Vocals are perfect for this song with just the right amount of effects. The guitar is not over-bearing and a bit haunting. I like this WAY better than your "80's" songs. I'm very picky about what I download and this made the cut. More like this please!

I'm not familiar with the original Mayham song, but back in the day, I used to listen to Death, Carcass, Napalm Death, etc, so I can appreciate the style. Vary true to the Death Metal genre all the way to the rawness of the mix.

Riffs by lunchbox 4 years ago
You've got a lot of good riffs and sounds going on. I'm not going to rate it, because it's not quite a song. You should put these riffs to good use and add a more instruments (drums, bass, etc.) You'll find that your playing tightens up when there are other tracks to play off of. I'd like to hear some full compositions from you, because I think you have the potential to make a killer metal song.

I give you lots of credit for putting something together like this at the age of 15. This is about the age I was beginning to write songs. At this age level and at this point in your music career I expect things like being slightly off tempo and missing a few notes here and there. Don't worry too much about that, because you have plenty of time to sharpen your skills. Play with the EQ a little and get that bass drum heard. Nice work and keep jamming.

I think the voice samples and guitar work very well alone. It helps tell the story. The distorted guitar track that comes in really reflects some strong emotion. The voice samples toward the middle with the dropped down guitars presents a really haunting sound. The rebuild with the gutar cords just plain rocks hard. This is the part I'd like to hear some gut shaking drums or orchastral percussion. Maybe some timpani drums and a gong or something. Just a though. Another great piece.

Very soothing and ambiant. Not at all like your other work. Not quite my taste, but for the genre it's well layered, mixed, and performed. I like how you have introduced the drums very subtly and then they form into the driving point of the song.
Broken from Within by ThatOneGuyInTheBack 4 years ago

I love the abrupt beginning and transition into the piano. The raunchy distortion you have going on there mixes great with the bold drums. The piano over the two tames it a bit for as long as it can. I agree that it needs some good vocals to round it out nicely.

Who doesn't like a good love story? I love the dark Gothic sounding songs you've been making. There's a lot going on here and it builds nicely with the face-melting distorted guitar cords. It would be great to hear and extended version of this with vocals from a singer with good range. I'm imagining a "Fates Warning" thing going on here.

Open Wound (v3) by Agrippa93 4 years ago
Thank you everyone. It took me 4 songs to really define my own sound that would instantly be recognizable. Then I went back to some older songs to rework them with the new sound (look for "State of the World v2" in the near future) and this is the result.

I still use drum loops, but I add accents such as kick drum, china crash, ride cymbol, and snare that really make the sound distinct. You will notice all of these present in each song regardless of what drum loop I use.

With the dark synths in the background it sounds like your saying one thing, but thinking something more evil. Not sure if that's what you intended, but I like it. I like the duality of it. Al Di Meola is a guitar god. This is a unique blend of jazz, ska, and techno that seems to be mixed quite well. The piece as a whole kept my interest throughout the whoole song. I'm not a big fan of horns, but for this type of genre it seems to work. It sounds like there's a lot of loops going on, but they are used creatively.
