| Dumb questions about using loops | 1 year ago |
| @hiphopmoses, its all good and I actually am heading on over to his page to check out some of his music and how he incorporates the use of loops into his final product. In the end as you said we are all made of mostly water and carbon, so how and what kind of music we create is all upto us. Now back to the original message in this thread. ![]() |
|
| Dumb questions about using loops | 1 year ago |
| @TvRicky, Thank you my friend for acknowledging what we loopers do, I totally agree though that playing an instrument and playing it well is a skill that takes time and patience. I just never liked the idea that some have that using loops is as simple as cut and paste, that is where it burns me a little but in all fairness there should be room for all of us at this table. Lets all make some great music together. ![]() |
|
| Dumb questions about using loops | 1 year ago |
| @hiphopmoses, I certainly would never diss anybody for playing an instrument or creating something original, its just from past experience. I was simply trying to give him a heads up that there are some out there that do not like the idea of using loops to create anything more than a filler of sorts. I find it still stands true to some extent but at least here at IComps there are many talented artists that can look beyond the simple loops and see that they are a medium onto themselves. That being said I always will and always have said that there are no loops if nobody plays the instruments to begin with, that is a given. So more power to all the fabulous musicians of this world and hopefully there will be room for those who cannot play them but have an ear for using that which is provided. AngeloA |
|
| Dumb questions about using loops | 1 year ago |
| Ok here is the short and skinny of it, you need to feel the music as you put it together, most of my songs and collabs use extensive amounts of loops if not only loops. I use a program called MixCraft on the PC and it is a low-end entry level DAW but still does a great job of it if you ask me. Some people out there will crucify you for using loops and others will accept that it is another medium for self-expression. So really the idea is to experiment and get the sound you like, you can even use virtual instruments you can play off your computer keyboard to add more notes to the music. Don't let anything or anyone set you back with stories of how they hate loops or loops should be banned etc..etc.. Just take the time to find the right beat as your baseline and then add the melodic bits to it. Just look for song structures and break them down into Verse, Chorus, Bridge and Coda. But most of all have fun. ![]() |

| ASIO and Win 7 or Mac for that Matter | 1 year ago |
| @MH2010 , actually I am using Creative Sound Blaster THX USB external card and have disabled the onboard interface. So I plug my guitar into the Line In on the external interface. I am going to check on the computer optimization but this is an older p4 3.2 ghz rig with 2gig of DDR1 ram. It runs pretty good but is a bit slow compared to a dual core, those Intel CPU's run hot that is for sure so when I reach about 24 tracks with some intense filters and effects it starts to bog down. I might get an I5 or I7 box or a Mac but I dont like the MINI it just doesnt seem all that powerful from afar. Angelo |

| ASIO and Win 7 or Mac for that Matter | 1 year ago |
| I installed ASIO drivers on my WIN7 so I could use Guitar rig to process my guitar signal on the fly as opposed to being only a VST plug-in. The problem I am having is that I cannot playback any other sounds except my DAW and my Guitar, so I find it annoying as all heck. I can't believe that in this day and age, we still have to go through loops to get things to work smoothly. And I am thinking on getting a Mac again, so I might well look at mac DAW wares. ![]() |

| Ok I will go out on a limb here and share a little something with you. All mine of course but still... Be Creative And then your ideas, thoughts and energy will find their way into the cosmic melting pot of humanity. You might well find yourself influencing others well beyond any point or depth that you ever anticipated let alone thought at all possible. Be Engaged Engage those who would have your silence, in all forms and eventually they will either help you or propel you to new heights. Be Tireless And all things will come to be within your reasoning..... Be Yourself Give credit where credit is due and don’t be afraid to claim that which is rightfully yours. Only through respect of self and others can one truly gain a right and proper understanding of what it is to be both humble and human in a day and age where disingenuity and forgery are ripe amongst the masses. How does this apply to the discussion... Well lets see the way I figure if you sit there and worry too much about what others are doing or listening to or even ignoring then you will simply be one of them. Do your thing and let the world be, that is all I can say. Angelo |

I know for sure I have over 1 terrabyte of songs on my hard drive and lord only knows how many 45's and 33's and I am fond of the 78rpm stuff too. I say let them do what they want, sure they can focus the ads, give you targetted content and so and so forth. | Which is the best Guitar Amp Sim? | 2 years ago |
| @BentAxis, thanks for all that info, I will be checking it out as I often tend to go beyond 25 tracks but what I have been doing lately is creating layers using 5 or 6 tracks and them burning that to an MP3 and then bringing that into a master project file, so I could have much more than 25 or 30 tracks and not have the CPU issues. Currently I am using a PC with Intel P4 3ghz with Multi-Threading so not a dual core and 2 gigs of ram. Mixcraft does bog down when too many effects on the tracks are being processed but that latency fixer sounds awesome, I hope it works on a Pc and not only Mac. ![]() |

| @fuzzynormal , Don't get me wrong, I am not dissing the mac itself as a computer actually it is a very nice system and a joy to use. The thing is I had bough a ImacG4 with the Super drive and if I remember you could not upgrade it beyond the 10.4 and I could not get Snow Leapord loaded on it so I gave up on modernizing the box and sold it to someone who wanted to browse the web and just plain have a computer at home. As for the Amps, I will check out Amplitube as well seems like a pretty popular choice, wonder what the price point is for that software. |
|
| Which is the best Guitar Amp Sim? | 2 years ago |
| @BentiAxis, do you need any special SoundCard to be able to process the guitar signal and still record the output on an audio track in your DAW? I tried a demo of one of the programs but I could not record and process the guitar at the same time. @Eidolonia , I am working with PC'S at the moment, I gave up on Macs when I found I could not upgrade the OS without buying a new box, that is a No-No in my book! I sold my IMacG4 I paid 3K for like 150$ and it was fully loaded too. So I will stick to PC's and if I go back to a Mac system I want to be certain it is expandable and not an ornament on my desk after two years. |
