Always passionate John... nothing less! Loved the mixed noodle soup (acoustic and electric guitars). Loved the electric organ (a elastic and eccentric vibe... reminds me of the smell and texture of a Ford Mustang Fastback black Vinyl bucket seats... especially when her bare body sticks to it, due to her love moisture smiley).

Composition & Production: A Flamboyant weatherization of vibrant melody of synths and a underlining back-beat percussion of postmodernism society. The spinning of the hour glass takes the listener beyond inception... no matter where he/she is now or was, time is linear. Notation dictates a rhythmic flair. Feelings of good times like mimosa, over power the sad times in a couple's eyes... a sparkle of clarity of true meaning of musicianship at its best! The vocals shine against a robust sound-scape like spoken words from classic literature.

Kudos to you both!

I like it! a simplistic sound-bed (I good thing!) however, unique to the ear. Four words to describe the overall production = 80s Dance Studio Vibe.

Intro:attraction grabber, like the deep piano chords (w/sustain pedal effect) tied in with injunctions vocals.

Drums/Percussion/Bass beat: = a transfusion mix, tight and nice mini-fills w/extended reverberation - - accent enhancers

Bridge and Chorus parts: Smooth transitioning between, I like the vox and synth with a slight dynamic emphasis on the Octave note if you will, and a sprinkle of FX.

Guitar: great string tones and attacks (cha-cha-cha)

Sythn: All parts are sound & tight. Accentual and panning work very well.

Vocals: well performed and the mix is intriguing = flat tone but not flat sounding, and ripples of reverb throughout.

Outro: OK, but a tad abrupt to fade-out

Production: all pots & pans/plugs/FX used appropriately = well balance, clarity

Suggestion: I wished this piece had a longer play time. For instance, after the second chorus part (where a typical solo occurs) it would be nice to hear an extending jam-out (for a lack of terminology)that pops-out to the listener (visually expressing - a bunch of people on the dance floor dancing to Techno after having several drinks - - 2 minuets worth.

Great musical beds (deep reverberation synth sweeps... oh like the pitch-bends in the Bridge section).

RHYTHM SECTION: Clean and tight rhythm guitar (RG1) chops and RG2 thick picking, and single note accents n the keys in conjunction with the tambourine-taps.

LEAD VOCALS: Loved the 80's lead vox mix (reminds me of The Police Synchronicity album) in this tune.

BACKING VOX & CHORUS: sweet & tight combo (backing vox + rhythm guitar chops).

DRUMS & BASS: clean mid-range bass and nice snapping-snare, dead-bass-drum, and mini-fills.

image... "She'll Be Gone"

INTRO:
BAM! super sweet (drum fill with synth layering) well delivered synthesize, and a contagious melody expansion.

Verses:
Attractive and brilliant melody from High/Mid/Low registers.

Bridges:
Nice drum punches, crashes and synth minor bends.

Solo:
Major pitch bends and nice key noodling.

Rhythm Section:
Synths on R & L channels synchronize very well... balanced and mixed. Distinct (Mid bass tone) and well balanced (NOT lost or muddy... NICE sustain) bass-line and tight with the drums (clean high-hat taps, nice dead bass-drum, vibrant 6 inch splash, 10" crash sound and a snapping crisp snare).

Vocals:
Clean (no mic pops heard, lyrics are understood, quality signing, mixed well, and NOT drown by the instruments). Backing Chorus blended well with Lead Vox.

FX:
Smooth transition (ocean crest, seagulls, bells, crowd and nice depth-reverberation); more importantly, used in the right spots (piggy-back off the lyrics).

Outro:
nice depression and smoothing exiting... gives a NYC Grand Central culture.

Production:
Overall Clean mix and recording, Solid Vox micing, well chosen plugs, and very well levels (gains and pans).

PS - I would like to hear your material on the Next retro film that comes out like "Hot Tube Time Machine"(great flix BTW), your past and new compilation of this genre would FIT for any upcoming retro films that are on deck... perhaps, you can find a way to get your material out to these Retro Producers. smiley

Genre: 80s Pop Quality

Listener Interpretations: An 80s genre composition with a spatter of New Wave paint on Mark's pallet - in/out Synth waves. Superb melody & rhythm combo, and a well blended low & high registers. Cresting waves from the ocean hitting the shore leaves much for one to think back in his/her youth.

Brief Description: Mark introducing a remix from his 2009 classic. Mark goes beyond the typical 80s genre, his piece was initially well drafted with added bonus sounds and overall, a unique structure.

PROS:

Colorful Spectrum with a rotation 3-dimension sound bed.

Visual

COMPOSITION

Musically
Clear & distinctive bass drum tied-in with bass Keys/rythmn backed by a snap-tone snare. Nice melody breaks, sfx keys ambiance insertion and an underlying granular texture. Clean lead vocals with accentual backing vox - extended echo & reverberation depth. Sleek transitioning (Intro->Verses->Bridges->Choruses->Outro)throughout

Lyrically
"i rummage thru our empty past in vain" Says a lot for many whom had the same experiences...

PRODUCTION

Audio
80s MASTERED Production (ALL in-sync balances/gains/pots/plugs/eq/sfx).

- The Shops -

A stroll through historic downtown, past craftsmanship rumbling beneath my feet, and with every step I compensate due the aged cobble-stones street-walks. Across the rugged terrain, artists playing instruments and painting on canvases; it all has a similar meaning, a meaning from a nostalgic period. Looking up and taking a deep architectural breath, sites of granular carvings and windows boxes that flourish with culture and ambiguity "In my heart".

The into hymns and piano keys sparks the musical minds, and the ruffles of the brushes against the snare backed with a subtle and yet solid low tone bass rhythm-section. The headroom spaces deliver a distant electric guitar, which is filled with emotion. Female vocals registers set the mood and intertwine and then they accompanied by a soothing male tone. Crisp sounds of nylon and steel strings noodling & strumming producing breathtaking acoustic reverberation in addition, superb placement.

Beautiful arrangement (dynamically & texturally)!

All Over You by Sabine 1 year ago
80's Boy will love this! smiley

Sabine, though what I am about to suggest might be touching on your trademark if you will however. Your vox setting (FX/Plus, etc.) becomes a little repetitious (I.e. utilizing the overlaying/delay vox setting) and a tad overpowering; it would be nice to hear how a single vox track (i.e. during verses in your piece)of your voice... Don't get me wrong, the vox effect you use works well during chorus, bridges and other musical sections that require this type of an effect.

As always, your voice, musical composition and over-all mix/production is top shelf.

My Best & Happy Holidays!

Hi Lupi - something different from you and though, this piece defiantly has your personality (ref. acoustic strums smiley ) with a Italian flare. Nice production... just a little more bottom-end for an impaction (depth and dynamic) effect (i.e., orchestration and/or percussion punches in a high-fidelity dance groove approach) is all it could use (IMO).

Hi Amanda - long time no hear, hope all is well; you sound great!

Night of the Living Dead (demo) by aceandseanovan 1 year ago

COMPOSITION COMMENTS.. More like early 90s the flannel days (yes... a tad of influence such as, early Tesla on steroids). This piece has a nice drive. Solid, energetic song writing. Nice use of percussion chimes as it adds accentuation to the piece, and outro FX (rumbling dark skies = thunder). Superb rhythm guitar layering. Bass guitar could use a little more punch (sounds a tad flat). The Lead Guitar (position = Center) could come upfront a tad more. I did like lead guitar overlaying (ref. positions = 1/4 left channel & 3/4 right channel).

PRODUCTION: Just a tad of EQ adjusting the High/Mid/Low Registers and/or compression/gates. Just open up the over piece to sound more 3 dimensional (separation of instrumentation surrounding the lead vocals, implying more depth and separation of instruments but yet, they all gel) rather than 2 dimensional (Vox and instrumentation).

Downloading to hear it on my VW Monsoon system...

Split yogurt (Intro) onto the kitchen table, splashing (melody insertions via keys and vocals) in all directions. Johnnie grabs the DustBuster (rhythm section), and attempts to clean up the mess, but nothing happens other than more yogurt disperses (musical layering). He then tries short pressing/releasing (musical breaks) the on switch on the DustBuster. His mother is at the sink, rinsing a head of lettuces, and she yells over, "Johnnie what are you doing?" In aggression, mother rips apart the lettuces (crisp production), and places it onto the counter.

Imagery: Running in the pounding rain, drench with sorrow. Every puddle he hits, every splash aches in his bleeding heart. Visions in his head of them rolling in a wide open field, kissing beneath the light-blue sky with cumulus clouds drifting above...

PROS

- Chorus (backing vox) gels nicely with the synth-hymns.
- Love the keys pitching bride-solos intertwining with the subtle electric-guitar noodling!
- Bass guitar (clean mid tones!) progression, low & high fret slides superb!
- Crisps xylophone/keys insertions, hence great melody enhancers!

Texture: This overall piece texture reflects the image above (women lips); envision a women using a roller-ball lip-gloss applicator, and picture a zoom (close-up) lens watching the roller-ball roll over the fine lip skin grains as the lip-gloss fills the voids with glitter (i.e., smooth-transitions).

Imagery Greg, wearing a flamboyant powder-blue sports-jacket over a white-tee along with wearing Levi boot-cut, and wearing short black boot, pointing-toe with a silver buckles attached. Sherie, low-cut ruby-red pushy-upy cleavage effect, and wrapped tight mini-skirt, bare-silky-tan legs.

Composition & Production

Intro: Synth beeps and sweeps giggle like jello and roll like rain-drops rolling of a freshly waxed car-windshield.

Rhythm-section: Rhythm Guitar (1/4L-channel) and Bass Guitar progression and chord low-register decelerating (i.e., DADA, dadda, da) jives nicely with the drums snare/triplet-taps on the high-hat open/close accents and bass-drum thuds.

Melody-enhancer: the late 70s electric-organ vibe (1/2R-Channel). I also like the orchestra string-punches that layer between the channels!

Lead-guitar: Loved the killer lead fuzz-distorted-tad-of-flange plugin effect you used. The reverberation setting (wetness) gives a great dynamic-depth and a peek-a-boo effect!

Suggestion: Very minor, the bass-drum could use a tad more wetness (reverberation), it noticeable when the bass guitar is dropped in the drums and keyboard mini-solo-bridge section.

COMPOSITION & PRODUCTION PROS & CONS

Drums/Percussion xan did a awesome job programming, all the accents are in the right places and drive the piece well. the snare drum just a TAD too upfront (just a tad too much gain or maybe too much attack).

Bass Tone-wise its a tad too flat, it rolls of the drums instead of sticking to drum hence, a tighter rhythm section portrays a health heart beat if you will. Perhaps a tint EQ tweak or another choice of a plugin

STRINGS - Melody Enhancer(s)/ Emotion Booster: Orchestration (punches & strums), climax climber, all work very well.

PIANO - Rhythm Rapids The stand-up (tall-back) piano is placed perfectly, keeps the time ticking solid! Like stitching Silk, nice use of piano noodling inserts (i.e., 1/4 Panned R-Channel).

VOCALS Lead & Backing robust as usual although in this piece I would rather hear the backing vocals less attached (i.e., plug settings less mirrored) to the Lead vox

Critical Critique Zone: Listeners will need to listen to this song at several times (Ive listened 7 times!) to really understand where I'm coming from; First, I want to say that this piece has an awesome build, composition wise all the components transition very well and most importantly this piece has a grand terrain or as someone else mentioned, a colorful tapestry. OK, let me try to pull the feelings from within my head; for example, lets uses a simplistic image of a mountain climber, you can feel the intensity as he/she pull themselves up, feel their every pinch, scrape and callus forming on their hands, they reach to the top, and scream with accomplishment and then suddenly gets shot in the back! I was expecting (or what I hear in my head smiley ) that the climber gradually looses his/her balance then falls down against the declining ledge, begins sliding towards the edge, and he/she finally loose grip then falls over the edge. What Im trying to say give the ending a more meaningful death (short for words).

Suggestion: Referencing record position 5:03 thru 5:18. The choice of the electric piano (vibrato) is slightly weak alone perhaps back it up with a subtle orchestration with a narrow and yet deep sound effect (rooms size and wetness).

Personal Preferences The song length is 5.35, and unless you are planning to advocate this piece to the movie industry (e.g., this piece works well in a movie/theme), which I HIGHLY reccomend, the Commercial industry might feel that the song is 2 minutes too long (I could be wrong, just a foot for thought).

My Best,

~Doc

Keep it as is BUT, just fade it out instead of chopped ending (cut-off). Instead of using this as a B-side, perhaps you can look at this piece as a hidden bonus track (on your upcoming album) for whats next to come (i.e. the next album i the works). Little vamps (I call) like this gives an alternate dimension towards the listener, it gives he/she a grand landscape for each is own to build on, a mind creation if you. Simplicity has a purpose at times, it offers the opportunity for others (listeners) to daydream if you will.

PSB with a tad of Oingo Boingo, and an early Gabriel icing with the voxFx insertions; great blend of an extraordinary era!

Jessie, with her long legs and sprirtz-frosted-golden hair is walking down C hall. She approaches her locker, dials the combination for locker-door 1123. Opens the door and begins admiring herself in a mirror that is attached to the inside of the locker-door, pulling down her banes, and puckering her lips. She turns her head and looks directly inside the locker, and smiles while glancing at a BonJovi cut-out from Teen magazine.

PROS: Vocals (leas & backing) are gorgeous as as well as the orchestration. Very nice transition between the harp and strings

image

Suggestions - This piece has a potential to move to the next-level, such as adding a deep (reverberation [not too much] & compression) percussion sound beginning 3/4 into the piece when the orchestra stops and the harp solo begins again (i.e., Bass Drum= boom, Snare= tat, boom, tat, boom-boom, tat). In addition, (what I hear in my head smiley) adding another vox track (i.e., ahs, oohs) in conjunction with the melody of the strings. Keep the intro & outro as their perfectly fit (IMO).

Pros: Beautiful song, composition lyrically sung (breathtaking BTW), and a nice Production to boot!. Drums and percussion, piano combined with the Ravens vocals (lead, backing 1, 2, 3 tracks) are the driving force (Rhythm Section). Nice subtle String-Synths (great melody enhancer smiley )

Minor Con: The piece felt a little too long for me, and I believe perhaps Raven has many verses (lyrically enjoyable BTW) than there are more musical progression (different) changes within the piece hence, I felt the piece did not have enough.

Suggestions: The intermission and/or solo section would of been more exciting if there were more layering of orchestration (viola, bassoons, Timpani, etc.); kind of bringing out the meaning, an emotional-booster if you will. Lastly, the piece could use a little more bottom-end (i.e. Bass guitar or Bass Pedals to some effect)if you will. The ending (outro) is Cool smiley

Nether-the-less, still a fav!

It is said that man nor women can not be separated from cog and wheel of society for a long period of time, and yet, when he or she is feeling lost, alone, or numb, and finds a crutch (drugs), he or she has disconnected themselves from the cog & wheel.

Comments: This piece (I have listen five times) has the framework and yet, not all the windows are closed. What I mean by that is that this piece has plenty of room for Production improvement (IMO). First thing I would ease-up on the reverberation, way too much wetness (IMO). I like depth but if you use too much, all your other instrument and/or vocal parts tend too fall into the well of infinity. Ravens vox, as always come through somehow, it must be her pipes, they are phenomenal! smiley

Production Suggestion

synth/strings: are nice melody & emotional enhancer and climax builder if you will.

synth/bass: nice rumble sweep!

Lead Vox: less wetness (reverberation) hence, and ease up tad on the gate, let the vocals flow, not bounce.

Bass Guitar is lost in the mix, try to bring it up front more.

Lead Guitar lower the gain a just a tad when the vox comes back in, it tends to drown out the backing vox and bass.

Hardware: is there a blanket under the mic stand (for absorption) as well as the stand wrapped (i.e. foam), because I hear some mic vibration (its noticeable in the intro & beginning verses).

Backing Vox: Pan (1/4) a little more to the R-Channel. Through the monitors its a a tad heavy with the Lead & back on the L-Channel.

The Climax part now here, when the drums come in, they could use just a tad more compression and when the last note (after the fill) is struck, when the Lead guitar comes in, it can use a more robust punch of a thicker-deeper crash cymbal rather than a small-splash symbol and a high-hat tap.

Closing Comments Just some minor tweaks on the plugs, pots & pans, and I see this composition a masterpiece!

I liked the simplistic drums and electric piano chord-progression for the beginning verses and builds up during the bridge section, and then back to the simplicity yet, with a twist of beat change smiley . Nice break with just the electric piano with the bubbling chorus Sythn melody sweeps.

The bass tone you have captured an awesome 80s tone (i.e. flange and/or fuzz-box plugin) gives t a sound as if you were using your keyboard to play it held a nice harmonic end-note for during the outro/fadeout.

Nice drum programming & acoustics (as always); are you using Boss DR-220 (Made by Roland) (big in the late 80s, image below)?

PS - You may want to consider punching-in a 3 mil-sec pause before the song begins when the listener presses play.

FEAHM material always produces a solid rhythmical melodic progression hence, the bottoms of ones feet would be soar from dancing all night too.

The vocals (mix-wise) sounds a tad too separate from the music. The music seems to overpower the vocals; perhaps the vocals could use a tad less reverberation.

I dunn if your a male or female (that you singing or a very robust multi/verse vocal loop?).

Composition/Arrangement & Production

Love the subtle synth-sweeps for the intro as well as the melody building with the electric keys. The outro works great, nice polished ending!

Solid bass & drum therapy throughout the piece (percussion insertion i.e., like hi-hat & splash fill the voids very nicely)

Vocals are nice as well as the vocal-panning fx makes a great addition to the environment.

I was hesitant to give you a #4 for Production instead of a #5 however, the the electric keys (your melody enhancer if you will sound reference = 3/4 R-Channel) are a tad to high (gain) in volume (e.g., if you lower your volume adjustment say to 2 decibels and listen, and if you crank your monitors and stand 15 feet away you hear what I mean.

Awesome Thick & Heavy-Grungy tones (loved the whoot-woo as well smiley ).

Great bottom-end from the rythm-section (bass & drums, nice drum-fills). Great work gents; very entertaining!

Bass, Rhythm (both) guitars are dead on!

The lead guitar has awesome tones and again, this is preference, but I would back-up a tad on the reverberation for the Lead.

Drums are good!

Vocals (see below)

Dave M (Hi Dave!) suggested that the drums need to be a little louder however, I believe its one of those tricks that fools the ear hence, I believe the vocals effect are a tad too wet (very noticeable during the backing/chorus parts) hence, drown the drums. Perhaps tweaking any automation (if your using any)will clean things up.

In closing, with the use of too much reverberation all the other tracks eventually get affected, and if the sound hole (depth) is too deep then the rest of the instruments (incl. vocals) will fall through/follow the hole of infinity.

Excellent Musicianship, your performances is super tight!

* Electric guitar tone and progression sync very tight with the bass (nice!)
* Electric Lead sweet tones and again, another great melody enhancer
* Synth & Keys have a strong melody and a robust atmosphere
* 2nd Rhythm guitar adds a great melody enhancer, nice effect!

Guitar SPOT ON (Plugs, pots & pants) Edio! Perfect in my book!

Bass Awesome Sticky-Heavy (I call it) Tone quality!

Drums Great syncopation (tight with guitar riffs and drum tom-fills). Awesome double-pedaling and ride-taps! Just because I WAS a drummer for many years, which makes me a fanatic when it comes to the dam sound, so when I said in the past more Deeper bass drum thumps (a more robust sound), well, I do hear it in this piece smiley KUDOS mate!

Piano Your probably going to tell me that the effect was intended, and that is find however. I feel its a tad too heavy on the reverb (too much space). I am just suggesting letting up the reverberation just a tad, that is all.

Synth/Keys Great insertions, just enough for transitioning purposes. I really love the keys approach->classical/melodically build you created!

The toughest challenge-> Vocals The intro, the panning is creative and perhaps if they were down with backing it would sound awesome. On the other-hand, panning foe just the lead because a tad distracting to the listener and gets loss in the mix. IMO, have your vocalist do backing vox tracks to take place of the lead (for the panning parts). The FX (i.e. mega-phone voice) is not too clear. Suggestion,: after the vox FX part, is it possible for the lead-singer to sing at a higher pitch? It would add to the climax, the intensity (i.e. butterflies in ones tummy and hair raising behind ones neck smiley ) of the piece. Overall concerning the vox track, a little more clarity (more tweaking perhaps; some parts sound a tad flat) and then again, it may be your lead-singer voice; perhaps trying a different mic might help. Again, IMO, the human voice is the most complicated instrument to gel within a musical piece from a Production standpoint. Hell, I do not know if I could do even better (LOL). I feel for you on the hours spent.

Structural An intense well developed (I can visualize the columns being assembly) piece.

INSTANT FAVE! I dunno if this was your final-mix if it is OK. If not, I hope my "constructive comments" help. Looking forward to the rest of the album! Awesome Musicianship mates!

Hi Linda!

Vocals Great layering (backing vox) clean lead vox.

Instrumentation First off, this piece has great potentials however. The strings (Violin) sounds like a loop hence, the sound lacks of harmonic depth and vibrant string resonance. If they are loops, Symphonic loops (Apple string loops are pretty good) are very hard to tweak to get that real live string sound; perhaps, if you and AB want to take this song further, get someone who can strum/play a Violin (i.e. Chris).

Production The bass has too much of a mucky-sound if you will (i.e. sort of too heavy on the FX e.g., flange, echo, gain, flat-EQ, etc.). The bass guitar also drowns some of the piano (also, lightly up a tad on the reverb on he piano) The drums: the snare drum is a little too much u-front. The bass-drum is not distinctive enough as it forms too tightly (sound wise) with the bass guitar.

As always, I enjoy your vocals!

My Best,

~DOC smiley
