Biography
"'But I say to you,' the Lord says, 'love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, pray for those who persecute you.' Why did he command these things? So that he might free you from hatred, sadness, anger and grudges, and might grant you the greatest possession of all, perfect love, which is impossible to possess except by the one who loves all equally in imitation of God." -- St. Maximus the Confessor
I have been involved in various forms of music most of my life. As a child I played horns -- French Horn and Trumpet -- in orchestra for 11 years. I have been playing folk music since the 1960s. In the '80s I studied classical guitar and music theory for eight years. I was unable to keep up any practice through the '90s and only recently, in 2003, returned to music.
I have been living and training as a monk in an Orthodox Christian monastery since early 2010; but due to health issues I had to return to the world. The monastery is 2.5 miles (i.e. roughly 4 kms?) from the nearest telephone and 40 miles (maybe 64.5 kms?) from the nearest town and/or cell phone reception. Therefore, due to certain health issues it was finally reckoned most practical for me to leave the monastery and move back into a city. There was no loss of faith or change of heart, we just found that I wasn't able to maintain proper and balanced health and still live as a functioning monk where I was. Of course the option of moving into another monastery was considered; but in order to find one as (monastically) "primitive" as ours, I would have had to leave the country, learn another language and all this without knowing if such a dramatic change would work in a positive way regarding my health -- physical or spiritual. We therefore dismissed the idea and I have simply re-entered the world as a "lay" member of the brotherhood.
I now joyfully return to iCompositions where I had once found a community within which I could grow and learn from, musically. This is where I have really learned and practiced the methods of digital production, recording and mastering and over the years I have met some great people here too. I pray you will accept my humble return and I truly hope to meet more friends and continue to grow as a musician and producer.
I probably won't be posting any new music for some time as I am starting from scratch again. I don't have any guitars or keyboards because I renounced everything I owned when I entered the monastery. So I intend to just listen and learn until I can procure some instruments. Peace and Love, your humble friend, A.
“Why is the truth, it would seem, revealed to some and not to others? Is there a special organ for receiving revelation from God? Yes, though usually we close it and do not let it open up: God’s revelation is given to something called a loving heart.” ― Father Seraphim Rose
