Thanks very much. It was recorded with my phone, which explains the rough quality.
As She Sleeps by herrsolera 2 years ago
A lovely piece. The piano unifies it nicely. Despite the limitations of the synths at work here, it soars. I'd recommend avoiding too much doubling, though. Finding fresh doubling combinations can be very effective at times, but some more counterpoint may be in order at spots. Beautiful ending! As talented as you are in the rock arena, it's nice to hear you put down the guitar from time to time.

Thanks.
The Lost City by Balok 2 years ago

Forever Gone by herrsolera 2 years ago
Outstanding. Beautiful melody, and the guitar provides a nice lattice. The piano could be brought up a bit more early on...then again, it is effective as a distant echo of sorts...like a lost memory. Not too crazy about the string synth carrying the melody about a third in...maybe another woodwind would do the trick. The last third was my favorite part. Lovely ascending phrases, the piano comes out a bit more, and the strings provide nice dynamic range. Overall, superb work!

Thanks for the feedback! As feenixx mentioned, it's meant to be more incidental in tone, so it's a bit thin by design. I appreciate the comments smiley

Tales of the West by Balok 4 years ago
Very interesting how this is conjuring up some very different imagery. That's totally fine! I'm just glad it evokes something. I was intentionally trying to assign some unexpected sounds to the old West, hopefully capturing a feeling of fragile opportunity with an occasional undercurrent of darkness.

Thanks again for the feedback.
Tales of the West by Balok 4 years ago
Maybe it's a sci-fi/western blend a la Firefly/Serenity, haha. A desire to use a simple guitar line and a bit of inspiration from Western films brought this about. I wanted to try to give the old West a new sound, but you're right herrsolera...it could fit elsewhere. That's the beauty of music smiley

Thanks for the comments! Always appreciated.

Wow......wonderful work everyone! An intimate epic. The beginning reminded me of Ennio Morricone's spaghetti western scores, and Jay's trademark guitar holds true. Great to hear Mysti on a track like this as well! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for all the comments. I agree...it could be louder. I tried to pump it up before releasing this, but any louder and it would start to clip. GB is touchy sometimes.
Threnody for Strings by Balok 4 years ago
Thanks for the feedback! schubertiad, I agree that this is not my most compositionally sound piece. This is the result of a string improv...I was going for emotion over technique. I appreciate you all taking the time to listen.

EPIPHANY (The Transformation) by SoulSurvivor 4 years ago
Beautiful work, Lenny! Sorry I missed this till now. Yes, creating forces us to reveal our identity, both consciously and unconsciously. Thankfully, iComp nurtures an environment where music is free of the constraints that force artists to produce based on expectations, or what is "popular." Create in the moment, produce what sounds good to you, and success will follow. This piece proves you're on the right track!
I-Comp Interview by Filmscorz 4 years ago
Great interview Jeff!
The Promise by Balok 4 years ago
Thanks everyone. Lenny, I'm using the Steinway and a variety of string sounds from JP4....string ensemble, violins, violas. I use different combinations, depending on the piece. Sometimes the ensemble makes a good base string element, but other times I will use the pure, individual string voices (bass, violins, violas, etc.). I tweak the reverb, attack, and fade to get a warmer sound.

I really enjoyed this! Very nice use of loops. I can definitely see this set against a montage of pipets and test tubes (CSI manages to make the mundane seem so exciting through music and editing).

The Mountain's Edge by Filmscorz 4 years ago
Very interesting piece. I love the freestyle form here, both classical and jazz. It's chaotic, yet cohesive, like the raging power of a storm. The languid jazz passages suggest a flashback as the couple braves the elements.

Gorgeous, tranquil opening. I love the subtle buildup and the gentle plucking. Nice use of strings, and that brass passage is epic! I realize this is a work in progress, but check the reprise toward the end...sounds like a phrase got cut off a bit.

Great work! Something for Zhang Yimou's next film.
