Wawaweewah!

This was something else. Some very unexpected surprises here, especially when the electric guitar comes in toward to the end. I second becwil about the track breakdown, I should probably start doing that.
In this I'm hearing a wide variety of influences, from the classics to Asian music to heavy metal, which is quite bloody brilliant if you ask me, well done.
The only thing I could ask for is an improvement on the production side, with some levels tweaking and such, but overall everything sounded very good.
Great job, thanks for sharing, and thanks for your comments on Autocons! Peace.

Delightfully weird! The accordian was quite unexpected, until it was mentioned in the poem of course. The music reminds me of Blade Runner, until it just goes into psychedelic overdrive. This is my final listen of the night; I can't wait for the dreams that I will have evoked by this piece.

This was definitely different, but it most certainly fits the theme of digging for fossils and discovering the past. It actually also made me think of an archaeologist entering an ominous dark cave. Quite evocative, although perhaps not what I'd normally listen to, I applaud its originality. Thanks for sharing.

I haven't heard the music without the vocals, but it seems as though both were create hand in hand. I am always genuinely impressed with your choice of music to compliment your vocals. Not bad...seriously. Now, I liked the first synth that comes in. I would have not added the rest of the layers, at least not that soon, but instead broke into a break or chorus after a couple more bars.

The initial synth, some cool lyrics, and a harder guitar sound for the chorus would have worked, but that's me being pushy. It's your music...

Yes the loops are familiar, but what is important is the "composition" and "arrangement" of these loops.

GarageBand is great isn't it? Once you've mastered it, you'll unlock all the cool little hidden abilities this software has to offer. For now, I would recommend that you work on balancing your track volumes (some of the synths came in a little loud in the mix), and pan your instruments so that they don't overwhelm each other (I usually put percussion in the middle, bass slightly to the right, and treble slightly to the left. Any incidental sounds and effects can be panned more extremely).

Now go on and conquer. I look forward to hearing your development.

For this song I used GarageBand and the JamPack 4 Symphonic Instruments. It's not perfect, but I tried to make it sound real by fooling around with the dynamics, and adding reverb. Thanks for your kind review Toonytony!

Thanks Cheska! It is a tad repetitive, I agree. I feel as though I should add some variation to the synth that's panned to the right. I should add something to the middle part as well, I'm just not sure what exactly. Thanks for commenting and rating!

This was a smooth beat for sure, however if I could be just a tad critical, I would say that it needed some change ups in melody or maybe some more nuances added to the beat itself. This is of course in light of the absence of an MC, which with the right voice would work very well with this track. Well done I say, no go forth and seek collaboration!

I saw brass, and I said, lemme hear this!I liked this, very evocative of a scene in a medieval period film, perhaps once the king or queen enters the court. I myself don't usually try to make this type of electronic music, but I thought that I might try something different with it, and that is why I'm very happy that you enjoyed it. It still needs work, but I think that I might make another one along the same lines instead.

Didn't know where this was going when i first started it, but somehow the techno thing kicked in. That last measure needs a little work, perhaps one of these days I'll complete it. Or complete anything for that matter!

A Real Bummer by anitric2000 2 years ago
Yes, it is a little on the Sappy MacSapstein side, and short too. The woodwinds were a little loud in the mix. I like hearing these little incomplete pieces because you have the balls to actually post them, which is cool. My little incompletes are safely hidden away and in danger of deletion.

I turn my head for a couple of months, and all of a sudden you're John Williams! Well done, I like what I'm hearing, it's VERY original, not like my stuff which are knock offs.
You've got the writing down, now all that needs work is the production. Don't be afraid of reverb, and layering the violins so it's sounds like there are more of them. Otherwise, excellent!

Coldplay influence? You think? Naaahh.....

This was good, although I felt the tempo a bit too fast, it didn't give me time to enjoy the ebb and flow this song should have had.

Nice going though. I'll say that you've pretty nailed the production here. Using GB, that's a pretty heftly accomplishment.

This is the perfect song for a car commercial. I mean that with great respect of course, it's just that I couldn't help but envision a brand new car gliding through winding turns on a long picturesque road amidst fields of green Disneyness. This is quite well done, well arranged and well produced.

This was pretty good, although it began to lag when I started to expect a little more than just a group of guys running through a school. As mentioned above, some of the camera work was pretty good and a couple of well placed stationary shots of the school interior were quite exceptional. I didn't think this was as funny as the first part of FAKETRIX, but I smiled a lot.
I'll make an effort to check out other videos in the future if you have any planned.

Peace and love.

THE FAKETRIX by jeepo 3 years ago
3

Well, a fine film you have here. I thought the first few scenes were quite funny actually, I laughed considerably hard, however as the video progressed the scenes seemed to lose their cohesion, and thus I did not sense that I was watching a sequence of events unfold, rather a collection of scenes you probably thought would work well together but ultimately didn't. Not to say you shouldn't make more of these. The more experience you and your friends have doing this, the better the output will be eventually. Like I said, the first part was phreaking hilarious, so start there.

Peace and love.

I like this a lot, has a great tone, sinister and groovy. Well put together, and never boring, especially when played out LOUD! Only thing I would ask for is more thumping bass parts, although that is a subjective analysis. Nice one.
Orchestraic Trial by Bazil 3 years ago
Thanks eurostrike. Funny, I was thinking that this piece would never get rated, so that justifies the phrase "never say never" nicely. Thank you. I was thinking I might do this one using my new favorite GB add on, Jam Pack 4. Music is one of my few escapes from the drudgeries of reality, and it's such a nice bonus to hear someone actually enjoy something I've done. Awsome.

Thanks for the kind review anitric2000. I know what you mean with regards to the slower release of the horns. I had the same trouble with the strings at first too, so I ain't passed the learning curve yet. I'll definitely go back and rework the horns (most of which are the trombone btw), among other things (I need to rework the volume levels and velocities for several other instruments as well. There is yet much work to be done!
I blush at the Hans Zimmer comparison, personally I think my stuff isn't remotely up to that level, you are too kind, but being the film score geek that I am, I am highly flattered!
Do purchase JP4, you'll find it very much fun indeed. When I bought it, the clerk at the Apple Store told me that I could return it unopened for a full refund, and I said, "You kidding me, I'm OPENING this box as soon as you hand me back my change!" The rest is history, I'm very glad I've made this investment.
Oh, and if you're any interested in film scoring, you NEED Digital Performer 4.5. It's pricy, but well worth it.
Thanks again!

This is some interesting, post modern type stuff here. I think the minimalist approach suites it well. It seems as if everything here was done intentionally and so makes it a little difficult to point out what it needs because it's such an experimental piece. Thank you Hunksten. The distortion is also something I grappled with. I ultimately decided not to clean it up (different speaker produce varying result). I don't really notice any distortion on my headphones, but when I play it through the iMac speaker it's a bit muddy. When I pop it into my car stereo however it sounds fine. These issues make it somewhat difficult to accurately produce a track. I tend to use the compressor to try and make it satisfyingly audible on most sound systems.
I'm working on a new one right now, it's a little different. Thanks again for your input!

Slappy does have a point, but let me tell ya, this is a substantially good improvement. I like the shape this song has taken since it's inception. Well done. I think from this point on you've got it and it can only get better, so I won't tell you what else the song needs, because you already know. What I tend to do is listen to a song I've made so many times that I end up liking it, and thus I become deaf to it's faults.
Thanks, keep it up!
Electric Trainset Love Song by Hunksten Proudfoot 4 years ago
5

This is really good. This song has a very "train" like quality. It comes through very well through the beat. As far as it being melancholic, I'd have to agree with synthmike. Nostalgic, yes. It is very obvious that a good amount of thought was put into this (either that or you just called it a train song cause that's what it ended up sounding like, eh? Just kidding...LOL). Once again, you have a certain way with loops. I get frustrated with them, but you seem to make them work, and that is no easy task. Thanks!
Check out AnimeDestiny (Revised) when you get a chance. I'd very much like your input.

Thank you very much synthmike. I agree with your comment on the bridge. I just wasn't sure what to do with it to be honest. It's been bothering me for a while now. Each time I revisit it I get stumped. You're much to generous with your rating, but I appreciate it very much. I'd like to thank you for your input, it's good to get this kind of feedback, since it forces one to really consider the flaws. Hey, they're still people! Imagine you were only 2 feet tall and everyone made you feel self conscious about it! How would you like that now, huh!!
Interesting song btw, it's like music at a demented evil circus where the clowns have fangs and...there..are....midgets! Midgets with short stubby arms and fangs too because they're evil. Now let me tell ya, this made me think more about clowns than midgets, and I freaking despise clowns!!
Very interesting track this, unique, uncategorizable. I did think it was a little long, and you could've benefitted from other interesting nuances, but still this is pretty cool.
Thank you.
AnimeDestiny (Revised) by Bazil 4 years ago
Thank you triage. Well, the intro strings are a combination of GarageBand instruments and the sounds that came with my keyboard (M-Audio Keystation 49e). It did take a bit of tweaking to get it to sound the way it does. Mainly reverberation was used a lot to make things sound somewhat bigger. Funny, I never even thought of the Beatles when I did that intro...
The synth trilling, I think you might be referring to the lead guitar sound (which doesn't sound authentic, I know). That hasn't as much to do with my fingers as it does with tempo manipulation. I'm not that skilled, yet...
Thanks again for the kind rating.
When I come around by nickh1 4 years ago

What program did you use? You were 10 when you made this? When I was ten I was still mastering the art of picking my nose let alone picking a guitar. The vocals in this sound strikingly Beatlesque, even though this is a Green Day cover, and you're ten for heaven's sake! I'm gonna check out your other stuff to see how your music has matured over time. If this is any indication, then I'm in for a treat.
Doctor M by Neumuzik 4 years ago
5

An uncategorizible piece from Neumuzik. This is very unique. How did you speed up the tempo gradually like that? Can GarageBand do that? Do tell, do tell. That is the defining feature of this piece. I felt like the intro was a bit too sudden, maybe a fade in would've worked better? The electric guitar was also a bit on the mute side, but you probably wanted it that way. Otherwise, good show. Good show indeed my friend.
Thank you.
Industrial Strength by Trickmaster B. Flexx 4 years ago

It's all MIDI!!!! Congratulations on that my friend. In an orgy of loops, yours is the kind which stands out. And don't say nobody likes industrial. I like it, and I like this knowing that it was created entirely using software instruments (correct?). I think you should have played around with the effects a little more, and added a little reverberation. The drums could use a little more presence and...err...Kaboom..sort of quality. Otherwise, well done on an entirely MIDI created beast!
Thank you.

What's the matter with people? Don't they know how to read?? You clearly state that you'd like this song rated, but after 52 listens not a single one of those felt obliged at all? Such disrespect.
Anyway, to the review. Very nice introduction to the beat, and good use of sounds too. I think if you had more sounds zooming around the place, making it feel like there is more going on, it would be cool. The melodies are pretty cool, pretty funky, but somewhat uneventful. It needs something, I can't put my finger on it. I like the movement of it though, my ears agree.
Certainly a grooving track. Music is universal, but also internal. The music we make clues us all in on eachother's ghosts.
Thank you

You've got a nice beat there, however it seems a little repetitive despite the little extra sounds that pop up. Maybe some more scratching, and I think you should have taken advantage of panning, give it some spatial quality. Then we have the vocals! Nice, I like the neat little touches, and the girl that says "true!", this is worthy stuff right here. The synth buildup that follows, it's taking us somewhere...Ahhh I see it, we're in da club! This is really good. I likey. Two thumbs up!

I like the intro due to its ambiguity. By that I mean the seemingly uncertain arrangement, but it all comes together nicely eventually. Licostic is right, this is a bit static in the melody department, but like Licostic I too concur that everything flows along quite smoothly. Why not spruce it up a bit, some FX sounds, some melody leads. Just opinion. Tell your girlfriend to sing to this, then it'll be really cool. I also agree with einoo; Good job, awsome!

I like your name, "LaptopLifestyler." It's like a new breed of human. Laptopus Lifestylerus Erectus (can I say erectus here, or is that rated X?). I've only ever experienced an earthquake once, and it was ever so brief, but nonetheless terrifying!
I like the creepy intro, and the machine like beat. I sort of wished you'd develop the synth melodies more fully, but that's just a matter of opinion. If this music was set to the backdrop of a disasterous earthquake, it works in that it makes it almost a humorous event. The image this piece did conjure up for me was of a factory where people are robots and robots are mighty. Think "Metropolis."
Cool thing about music, it's about everything.

Nice intro, especially the bass. The following transition was well conceived, but still lacked some punch, some oomph (no, not 00 miles per hour, it's an onomatopoeia). The synths in there kind of reminded of the Doors. I almost expected to hear Jim Morrison in a drunken stupor yelling for the music to stop just before he exposed his bits, God rest his soul. Ahh, now with the dramatic piano. Good use of that loop I think. I can't classify this music, it's somewhat visual. It could stand to benefit from some augmentation. Adding a few interesting bits of sounds here and there, perhaps? The guitar that shows up a little later sounds a little muffled, maybe some EQing is in order here. Of course this is my opinion, I'm nowhere near qualified enough to criticize anybody. Good stuff here, keep it up.
Thank you.

Wow, a gospel song which evolved into an electronica song. Now that's a concept! I like the cool bassline in the beginning; it goes well with the thumping beat. Then a break, then an organ in true gospel fashion. I think this may be unprecedented in the world of music, eh? Now all you need are those lyrics, and a gospel choir to round it all up. Perhaps more reverb here and there to make it sound bigger too. Very cool. A song like this could pump up the volume at any house of worship. Great stuff!

Hello there triage. This is nice, groovy. The beginning was a tad too abrupt, but the groove that follows makes it okay. This is what funk might sound like if that alien band playing in the bar in the first Star Wars movie was performing it. An ecclectic fusion of synthetic and traditional instrumentation gives it a universal quality. I think that is something you should build on. Was the guitar real or looped? Either way it was nice and cool. I wasn't sure if I liked hearing the beat on the left side only; it sort of left this gap in the middle, if you see what I mean. The introduction of the voices was a cool idea, however they didn't seem in time with the rest of the song, and felt a little out of place. The introduction of the tribal like beat was also a good idea, but things got pretty muddled there for a while. It's definitely a party toward the end there, but I found myself longing for the music the piece began with. Otherwise this was quite the groove (there's that word again, somebody get me a Thesaurus...)
Thank you.

Appropriate title I must say. Great sounds you got here. Whatever short film your friend is working on, I'd really be interested to see it based on this piece. I think perhaps a little more variation on the beat (or whatever that is, bouncy ball kinda sound) would have been good, but otherwise this is probably all it should be. I especially liked the sounds towards the end, the ones with a little more melody to them. Nice and eerie. Visual too, solid soundtrack stuff. Thank you.

Hello there! Your first eh? Let's see now, I think you should have eased in on the part after the intro a little more smoothly. There are some interesting things going on with the beat; I think you should embelish it with some textural sprinklings here and there, in other words spice it up a bit. That synth loop you used about halfway through doesn't seem to fit at all with the synth pad that comes before it. If you meant to change the tone of the piece, you should have done a little more gradually. The ending was a bit anti-climactic, for my tastes at least. With this being your first composition, I'd like to congratulate you. What more fun can a human being have than to make music, eh? Stick with it, and do take the time to study a bit about music theory, it helps and its fascinating. Cheers!

Thank you synthmike. I agree that introducing the song with the strings is the best way to go insofar as streamling the production. I actually went back and took out the piano piece, and was pleased to find that the piece still works. It's kinda cool, because I based the entire song on that one simple piano solo, which was in essence a building block, a foundation, the vertibrae of the piece. When the foundation was removed, I found that the music evolved to a point where it became independent of its "parent"; musical offspring if you will. It thus became an entirely new beast altogether. I don't know if this has become my method yet, and I don't know how the pros do it although I'd like to. The whole aspect of creating musical arrangements fascinates me. But I digress. Thanks again for the kind comments, it's cool to get some feedback.

Thanks for the critique royal72! This is precisely the kind of review I like, one that's not afraid to point out the fault. However, perhaps misguidedly, the reason that the piano intro is at its present length is so that I establish the basis for the entire song, and demonstrate how a simple piano solo can spawn a host of other sounds. That's why I maintained that melody throughout. it's true that perhaps it should have been cut upon entry of the string section, but it was a little experiment. As for the drums at 5:08, that was a mistake that I decided to leave in because it sounded out of the ordinary; again just experimenting. I appreciate your thorough analysis, and hope that other listeners would provide the same level of insight, instead of the just the old "Good job, here are some stars for ya." I would like it very much if you checked out my other tunes and critique them as well. I admit, I hastened release of this track, but one of these days I'll get it right.
