![]() This spans decades yet feels contemporary, too. The brushes, and abundance of CLEAN bass, piano keys and archtop guitar tones paint a scene for me of a sunny, Sunday in a bright studio with natural wood, high ceilings and no other colors than a few white walls. It's a musical slice of heaven in here. Many thanks. |

![]() You're depraved and talented. Not as fresh for sure. Great mix, down to the kick.I disagree with EL2T's comment that the lead s/b dialed-up. I exhumed my CD of Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop yesterday to get into iTunes and was surprised at how low he mixed his own guitar. Save me some brains, I'll be back. |

| I've been away too long. This is an amazing song and it's giving me a lump in my throat as I consider the road ahead for all kids... including my daughter, who at 5 has it all ahead of her. This song's amazing, brings me to the days I'd sit for our after hour diving into Crosby/Nash albums -- post CSNY, in the late 70s, before the reunion(s). The vibe, the harmonics... I hope to get back to re-discover all who contributed to this track. finally, best wishes to Jessica & family. |

| This imparts a deep nostalgia in me, for the days when music served as a vehicle for communicating the zeitgeist of a generation. And in that nostalgia -- don't laugh too hard -- I hear the resonant guitar tones and ambience of the old '60s classic, "Something in the Air," by Thunderclap Newman. Thanks for the download... I even added the lyrics to the Mp3 metadata tab in iTunes! |

| This puts me right in the club with you. Excellent performance as well as sound quality. I can't wait to move back to Chicago (when my house in East Tennessee sells) so I can get back to some musical civilization. So where are YOU in this.. c'mon, get yer axe out... or sing for this gang! | |

| This outing illustrates a major strength you have as a singer, songwriter, musician and arranger in that all these aspects are very swell balanced. A listener who listens for any one facet can easily hear it; the guitar fan can hear the guitars clearly. Likewise, a fan of vocals can hear those clear, on-pitch lyrics delivered without fighting competition from the guitars. The verse chords here recall "Check it Out" ... any news on that one? |

![]() This is a great piece of music, with a great concept and my favorite thing: lots of powerful guitars.I'll leave the politics out of it with only a note to second Puppy7's comment... no one in a war escapes blood on the hands. Only one thing really bugs me: WHERE have I heard this before? I HAVE heard it before. IS it a remix? Repost? |

| Thanks everyone for the kind feedback. Chris, there's really only one guitar in here; since I only needed one finger to do slide, I alternated between the slide and frets in one track. It sounds like more because I duped the guitar track and fuzzed it up (mostly on right side). |

| Dylan, good to get back and hear you again. You're a natural, as evidenced by what you came up with in a couple of hours here. I couldn't put-thgether this kind of thing in two weeks. Your atmospherics are peerless. If turnabout's fair play, Jim may have covered you, too -- at least in spirit -- in his moody tune, "Ghost Town of My Brain." |

![]() I agree... those guitars in the second half are two feral cats dueling in the break before the vocals come back in, low in the mix. I also like the vocal harmonies, in particular, the combination used in lines including "go out of my mind" in particular. Go analog! |

![]() REally nice work -- er, play. You're doing some great stuff that fits into the "musicians' musician" vein. I find this very original and fresh, while at the same time reveling in the Squier-Wakeman-Bruford revival I've been into of late. |

![]() Nice trip. Great fel when the drum comes in to make the groove happen. Interesting high-end keys in the background, almost Theremin=ish. The big undulating guitar chords pick up the third quarter nicely. It says something good about this tune that I -- of the short atetion-span ilk -- found myself following along closely through the whole thing. From my frame of reference, this is bouncing back and forth from my old-time festish for "Tales from Topographic Oceans" on one hand, and acid-jazz on the other. |

![]() You have altered my brainwaves with those wavy analog sines crashing against digital corners. I'm enjoying the guitars, kick-*** drums, ambient strings... around two-thirds through when the lulling break gives way again to the full barrage, what seems really magic to me is the role that electric rhythm guitar plays in melding it all together. Wow. What a ride. |

![]() RE: the lyrics being too sophisticated for the voice: I sat in on a "Nashville Songwriters" workshop not to long ago and that's the kind of advice you'll get from people who write for the business. If you want to go there, the criticism might be useful. Editing to add this... I have no desire to make or listen to music that suits the ever-fading mass-market that Nashville and all of Big Music keep flogging. Please never appease those who would dumb-down your music unless you're hungry and have some sort of career need to do so. |

![]() You're right at home with blues-rock. I wish I could pick-up an axe and do a little call & response with you on this one. Not sure where you'll be geographically, but by next summer I'll be living in Chicago again, probably for good. I haven't heard Rory Gallagher's name -- or guitar -- but yeah, you've got that kind of approach, a lot of energy. (He was under-appreciated!) I'd like to know more about this -- are all the instruments live? Do you play' em? Dig the drum break, ain't no midi here. |

![]() Your chops and phrasing are well balanced; you've got a voice on the lead, it's good to hear it. I'm not sure how I've missed you but I chose this to click on just because the title reminded me of Jimi Hendrix' Belly Button Window. I have a Strat Plus which I love, but I never get quite that classic Strat sound you've got here. |

![]() I don't remember hearing the prior version and can't find it but this is a GREAT tune. Great dynamics, great performance. Since you asked I'll put my Mr. Picky hat on and suggest you try fiddling with some of the below. Note that I AM TRYING TO BE AS PICKY AS POSSIBLE -- just because you asked... but I am NOT an expert. I can mix a little but have no idea how to master. That said, here's my best shot: Overall -- again just some "try it and see" ideas -- The lower end of the bass EQ feels a little 70's-lost in the mix... lacks definition on the bottom. Guitars? Cut them down a few dbs at 200 HZ to help the bass come through. But it's a bit thin; fatten & round it out by doubling the guitar and consider reducing/eliminating the flange/chorus/FX for a clearer tone. (You can offset one of the 2 guitar tracks a fraction of a sec. for a subtle DIY chorus/delay.) The chimes and tambo are distractingly loud. Vox? A little high in the mix for my tastes. For starters try reducing some lower EQ, (or bands in your multiband compressor). Despite all thatI wanna stress this song is GREAT. It's a beautiful tune well done, and it sounds like it could have come from out there in terrestrial radioland. |

![]() Very nice. I mean VERY nice. Wait: VERY VERY NICE. The drums really do it for me. Nice Steve Hackett ending! What was your inspiration for that tribute -- the drums? |

![]() Hey, Big C, a few thoughts as the song progresses... --You know what they say, "the higher the hair, the closer to god." --The girl from Arkansas sounds like the vegan from "Exception to the Rule." Interesting parallel in your storytelling... I wonder what that says about you... haha, I don't wanna know. --Too true, be your own man... so long as nobody notices. Most of us can't recognize a genius in our midst because we can't think outside our proverbial boxes. Remember all those punks who rebelled against conformity by dressing alike and listening to the same music? How about the irony of the music industry creating an "alternative" market segment! Musically, you are your own. I wish only that you become known by producers seeking your songwriting talent. |

![]() What a great taste of spaghetti Western for an evening's beach party. And again I'm hearing something in your clean, little flourishes and phrasings that takes me back to solo George Harrison. I have no idea of he's in your musical closet, it could be the after-effects of the recent binge-listening I've done of GH's music. Thanks again for a great song, and a download, something that's a rarity for me... but you've truly given me a favorite. |

![]() I can't believe it took me three years to find you and your music, in this song. I don't understand the Swedish lyrics, but I love the vocals. The whole thing conjures an image in my mind of a semi-folk version of a song in which The Clash (with those well-chosen chords) is collaborating with George Harrison (in that crystalline slide-guitar break). |

![]() This is so very different from the original -- which I just listened to -- that I can hardly tell this isn't an original, other than the main chord structure to accommodate the lyrics and melody to ride on top. You've done this with covers before, too. It's the only, truly valid way to do a cover. You've brought a new dimension. I wouldn't mind hearing some more guitar ripping through, but you know I say that about everything. But really: Wow, regarding Jon's interest. |

| Dancing Barefoot (patti smith cover) by michael2 | 2 months ago |
| M2, your vocal's fine sitting just barely above the mix here. But if you want to pop it in more w/o losing audibility, try doubling it and adding effects to the duplicate. Also a very low-intensity flange might help. Reverb usually muddies up vox too much, I think you'd agree. Anyway, you can blend the duplicated, more effected track up or down relative to the clean one in your desired proportion. I think that'll do what you want it to. BTW for kicks, check out lo-fi king Matt Granz' version of the tune at http://www.icompositions.com/music/song.php?sid=40009 Man, Patti woulda made a great Ramone sister back in the day. |

| Many thanks to all above. I'm often curious how people will perceive my music if they don't know me well... will they think I'm a vintage 70's garage-shredder, a zoned-out effects-hound, a country-ish redneck, and so on. But I keep on trying to change-up what I do. For example, I grew up on blues as much as anything, and have yet to record any. I'll just keep messing around and testing the limits of my abilities and gear. The most frustrating aspect of it all is that I want to make 100% human music if I can, but I need drum loops. I wish I had a drummer like I did in the old band days. Oh, well. See ya around the place. |

And a perfect opportunity for me to stretch my genre myopia your way and appreciate the great talent -- and considerable POWER -- of your studio smarts. Did that make sense? At least the last line (and the stars) clearly let you know what I think of your chops. Nice fake ending 3/4s of the way through... kind of like trying to quit, and lapsing back into the "musical smoke." P.S.: I hope you get Alana back behind the mic, I miss her! |

It occurred to him that nothing in his small-town studies, nor socializing, would prepare him for two worlds: the retrobeat hipster slick of late twentysomethings clubbing just beyond the border of the barrio; and the completely unexpected potpourri of life online, where all things strange and shiny -- even muted trumpets and electro-musical saws -- awaited him. ![]() One day my Guitronica will meet your Rocktronica on the virtual cafe and sip little crap-tron-uccinos together. Till then, let me just say that this couldn't be cooler if you put a red, plastic flower-pot on your head to sing it! I really dig your treatment of the sustained "I'm free... of you" line. That, the spoken section and 100 other little details. You've got this nailed-down tight. |

| I should know better than to miss any of your tunes. I was away for a little while, but you're a primary destination whenever I return. Your lead guitar parts are sublime, as is the vox/guitar relationship. I can't imagine any collab partner interpreting your aesthetic the way you do it on the fretboard yourself. | |

![]() THERE we are! I dug for this after watching the video. I gotta get with the program here! Smooth vox, great groove... as previously noted. |

| I like Narandanda's "Feathery" description... I couldn't come up with a better one. Great tunes, great vocals. Thanks for warming the third rock with this one, guys! | |

| I'm struggling to come up with more than one line here -- don't you LIKE to get more feedback than that? Except for one problem: There's nothing to criticize! I will say that I love to hear a cappella, and I am always skeptical of it because, I mean, who can do it? Who's got the pitch to pull it off? You do. Thanks for the download. I hope it can be instructive one day if I want to work on my lowly voice. |

![]() I've got my Zippo up in the air for more of this good-time country-fried rock 'n' roll. (Even if it's my iPhone Zippo app!) I hope you get that contract, or whatever you're looking for in Nashville. |

| Someone To Kiss by RockinSonicBoi9 | 4 months ago |
![]() When you note there's "at least a little rock mood here," it makes perfect sense to to have some rock in your country. There's barely anything in existence that can be called rock & roll anymore outside of the country music scene, barring lots of indy stuff the music industry routinely ignores. I'm jealous that you have real, live musicians playing here. Solid, solid stuff. I hope it's gotten, or gets, you where you want to go. Real house-rockin' going on here. |

| Shine a Light by Steve_Scott | 4 months ago |
![]() Good vibe, and if this is a live recording -- whether a oe-take studio recording or a gig -- it's just that much more impressive. I always like harmony guitar parts, and in this relaxed groove they're right at home. Drums are high but if it's live, hey, no big deal, the moment captures shows-off a great band. |

![]() Pete, I love the video, but also your guitar grove, leads and voice. I guess I missed the audio-only version. Really just the right vibe for being on the water. And -- lucky you -- you've got great surroundings as well a a home port in that office-studio. May the four winds always blow you safely home. |

| Cartoon Betty (Final Mix) by Steve_Scott | 4 months ago |
![]() Old school babe deserves old-school rock. Robby Reverb's Alice Cooper allusion isn't far off at all. This comes from a similar mindset as "Elected," a great tune. THIS is a great tune. |

| White Winter Hymnal (Fleet Foxes cover) by Steve_Scott | 4 months ago |
![]() Great job! You have balls to cover this tune. Sounds like you've given it a less atmospheric (less watery) treatment and a little speed. But it cold be the Fleet Foxes themselves doing a live git, it's so faithful. This is an amazing song and you do it justice. (All "stars" except I hold back on "concept" for covers.) |

![]() I'm tired of subjugating myself with drooling superlatives. So I'll do it just this once more. Love your sound. I found myself asking "how does he do that" on your vox, the drums (software?) and the overall strength of the songwriting. Your voice just knocks it outta the park and onto the Dan Ryan. The ending? Say it ain't so, John. Ain't right. |

| Yours and Mine by Bob6stringer | 4 months ago |
| Eagle, Kenn, thanks. John, I guess you know the real me with this one. It did indeed come naturally, wrote it in one not-long sitting and didn't question or change the words at all. When you know (and love) the inspiration for a song I guess that can happen. As for picking-up steam, I pretty much pepper a little more of everything into it as it progresses (harmonies to slide riffs, drum presence, etc.) |

| Miracle of Love [Radio Mix] by artneuro | 4 months ago |
| Wow, Art, your "orphaned mixes" could teach me like a parent. You just get pro-er and pro-er. And I always like your fretwork on either the 4 or 6-ers. | |
| I WANNA DANCE by KCsGROOVE | 4 months ago |
| Not to worry; the sore throat works for you here. The subtle "team players" in your mix make it shine -- like the electric piano on the left side. Nice, unexpected major 7th change for the chorus, it takes it to a nice place, then drops right into that fine instrumental. This is really impressive. | |
| Yours and Mine by Bob6stringer | 4 months ago |
| Thanks KC, and LOL Geo... then again, this Jersey boy was a bit of a redneck in my Chicago years, if you've seen/heard my Farmageddon tunes here! About my daughter: She beamed ear-to-ear when her teacher played this to the class. She's got the words memorized, and sings on pitch. I'm priming her to get behind the mic, soon. |

| Give Me Love (GH cover; test sketch) by Bob6stringer | 4 months ago |
| Lenny, Morris, Chris, Nelson: Tank you! Art, I never considered what singing would reveal about me... no wonder I've done so many instrumentals! About GH: HE's perhaps the artist I've listened to more than any other for many years running. I feel like I know him, or he knows me. I waited to write this reply specifically for Art so I could put a slightly more on-pitch "voice to the persona." Here's a link to the new tune, Yours and Mine. |

| Beauty of a tune, love how the guitar tone works with drums. Looks like you're gonna have to say goodbye to the waves, unless she comes with you. Good for you. | |

![]() STEVE! GREAT FUN! What? No Yoko sitting in? LOL! I LOVE the Lizards version too, John (Beatle128)! Steve, you're tops behind the board here as always. |

| Livin' in the City (Fear cover) - COLLAB GUIDE TRACK (with messy guitar) [better mix] by pickabass | 4 months ago |
![]() Always loved this song, actually the whole studio album it came from for its insane punk-ness and at the same time, its incredible sound. Scott gives great face on this, he owns it well as do you on guitar. |

![]() As you drive and as you groove, remember to keep one eye on the road and one finger on the carbeuretor. Just don't get so funked-up that you drink the used water. Say high to the skunky buds for me, I listen to your music in the 00s and it feels like my 70s. |

as I believe RubyDubidoux has called them). I WOULD be one of them, but there's really no difference between that, and the use of drum loops. So don't sweat it, you've got logic on your side!
