@BigJimSlade, Stick around long enough and the longs add up... really I'm lucky to do three tunes a year! As for diverse... I just play what comes out, and hope for the best. My favorite part is playing. My least favorite is dealing with drums that aren't made by hand by someone I know. Production is fun, to a point... then it's kind of like over-scratching an itch and risking over-over production... like this tune!

One of my major goals is to back-off big productions and figure out what I want to say, lyrically or else melodically in the instrumentals. And maybe go back to the drawing board with some stripped-down acoustic stuff. Anyway... thanks!

What a great tune all around. The only problem I have with it is that it's not three times longer. What a great tune this would be to perform with a good, loud, jamming band playing to a good-sized crowd. Lighters up!

@Kw8zzy8s, @SISTERS, @RubyDubidoux, @Vixen, @dirigent, I just want to thank y'alluns for stopping by and making me feel like a star for a week or so. Anne, I'm the kind of listener you are... I like to make note of specific parts and I'm so glad you noticed my obsessive habit: After I record, I go through every measure, every note on many songs (this one included) to make things jump the whole way. Vix, nice nod to Ed, whose bass is an arm's length from me as I write this, and who will forever rock i peace. As for my chops, diligent, you overstate them; there are always those with more and fewer tricks in their holster. I'm more of an old-school jammer than a current-gen shredder!

RE a future update of this or a similar riff: I had a version intended for a kind of New Orleans/James Brownish vocal, tentatively titled "Put Your Foot on the Rock," but I just had to get this riff out. As I approached the two-minute mark, I was also approaching a musical cardiac arrest, and so I scrambled around the frets and, out of breath, darted around the frets and ended the hyperactive madness. I still lament the lack of a good, versatile "wetware" drummer to collar or better yet, play live with here in Chicago.

Edited to (try and) fix the spelling of "Kw8zzy8s."

I heard but didn't comment when this was new.... love it. DL-ing it to push on my friends. I prefer it to the original, which I find way too controlled.
Another Brick in the Wall (LIVE) by PunkFloyd 10 days ago
"The Wall" was the Floyd album that turned me into a non-fan because it marked a shift from a rock-and-guitar sensibility to a clean, lyrics-are-all approach for mass-market consumption. Your band scrubs-out the carburetor dung and, to mix metaphors, offers my ears a much-needed musical colonic.

Aaaaaaaah. That's better. Now put yer combat boots on and get yer punk asses to cold Chicago -- Nor Cal's way too comfortably numb this time of year!

Exceedingly clean mix and placement of your vocals. I like how you put your vocals in, without making the music seem ducked-down. Good story. The chorus gave me a big laugh, it reminded me of Zappa's Reuben and the Jets album or maybe Sheik Yerbuti. Or just barely on the cleaner side of Dinah Mo Humm. Lyrics are right off the tour bus. I wish I could go to the artneuro school of Logic, very clear and dynamic mix.

What a great break midway through... this song is pretty epic, old friend. I'm glad you gave it the Logic treatment. I've gotta learn that app one day.

Anytime - redone from scratch by NnitehawkK 10 months ago
Oh yeah, this is good. Gotta listen to the prior version... brb. Okay, the song's great, but I like this take more. It eliminates some "harmonic competition" for a cleaner low end (probably around 200 Hz where guitars can sometimes get in the way of a bass harmonic that wants to be heard there.) I ONLY say this because you took the time for a "redone from scratch" version. Otherwise I'd probably just tell you the prior version is wonderful. (Which I did on that version's page.) Also, the slightly slower pace works great here, btw.

I happen to LIKE pub rock from the 80s. I wasn't in Sydney but I was pickled enough to have made an injured fool of myself to this in any venue you like. This stuff doesn't sound dated in any bad way, it actually has more of what I like in pop/rock than 99% of the crap on the radio. Of course, that's just radio. But still, the indie music scene these days is also overrun by bad disco influence on one hand and navel-gazing folk on the other. Not all bad, but THIS, now THIS gets my blood flowing.

Hey, BC Pop Star! I LOVE IT. I love everything you do. But I have to tell you something that would drive the crowd CRAZY: Funk-up this tune and go into a cover-homage section of Sly and the Family Stone's "Life" before going back to close again with "About Time." I swear people will be hooting and hollering and dancing like crazed born-agains if you do this. By the way, I just e-mailed you an Mp3 in case you want to take this crazy suggestion seriously. Love ya, man. --B
Come Little Rabbit (Akmal Shaikh Cover) by artneuro 1 year ago
So sad that Shaikh had evil on both sides of him; the drug dealers on one side, the ignorant authorities on the other. Forget about the meek inheriting much in this world, as goes the saying (to which I never subscribed).

On the bright side, your cover is pretty damn good.
Somewhat Interesting by artneuro 1 year ago
Art, great to come out of hibernation. I was going to compliment you especially on the little quiet-dynamic break, now I need to add a heap more "yays" to the way you came out of it with that Zappa horn-esque scramble back to the main guitar-leading melody. This is entirely, rockingly good.

Git It On by morgan102 1 year ago
When the first verse comes in, it does it with a big band and of course vocal presence... and never lets up. The energy with which you overcame all the little setbacks, Dani, did nothing but strengthen your resolve to deliver an as-always stunning vocal performance. Evidently, the same synergy of you two star vocalists doesn't stop at performance, but has deeper roots starting on that blank sheet of paper.

Morgan, your laugh; Dani, your follow-up line "Then why don't you come over here and show me again," sound so real, I almost feel voyeuristic enjoying this magic.

And bigdaddycee: Your work here is so perfect behind the vocals, I almost forgot to mention, well, just that!

Black Peter by Hunter/Garcia by bud2 1 year ago
Hey, Bud, what gave me a chuckle was the touch of snare right up front. Classic tune. You've pretty much captured the same groove as the original studio version, and I have to applaud you on the bass and subtle keys. You smartly chose not to ape Jerry's voice. Your voice here does, however, remind me of old David Bromberg -- If you remember him, I'd specifically cite "Demon in Disguise" (the song and the album). One day I'll have to give you a bookend with my version of a "Wharf Rat" cover!

Turn to Me by Bob6stringer 1 year ago
@PunkFloyd, thanks. This is a remix of a version at MacJams.* I thought it was an improvement, because I brightened-up the mix, but I've veered back to liking the earlier mix better for its mellower sound and wider panning of guitars (the right lead track is more centered on this one). But in general, like Percy said, the song remains the same.

*RE mentioning MacJams: I find it silly how some people are afraid to mention that more than one Web site exists in the world and will refer to MacJAms as "another site." So in the spirit of full disclosure: There. I said it. No slight is intended; I of course remain grateful for all the work PM does, and all the great people and music here.

@morgan102, thanks much. I didn't try to copy anyone but the delay in the 2nd verse reminded me of U2's Edge (the world's least-talented if cool-sounding guitarist), while the 3rd most-rocking verse reminded me of early, old INXS! Non-musical life is in upheaval but I'll be back and catch-up with ya when I can.
A Trick of the Tale by ScotByrd 1 year ago
Wow, this is really fine, you've got all the parts down and given your own personality to it. A little more spare vs the heavy chorus/reverb feel the original one has. And I ALWAYS wanted Steve Hackett to turn it up a little, so I finally got my wish.
Still My Heart by Bob6stringer 1 year ago
@QueenKontrol, @AngeloA, and @Bass2x, I have been "going through some stuff" and feel bad I didn't thank you earlier. I wasn't shooting for anyone's style but I laughed to myself about how the delay on the strumming kind of reminded me of U2 or INXS. James, the vocal levels have gotten the most semi-ceritial comments. The vocals are indeed quieter for the first verse, I wanted you to "lean in" to get your attention. (Hope I didn't overdo it.) And the vox pick-up from there, as you accurately note. THANK YOU ALL AGAIN. Hope to get my non-musical business tidied-up so I can get back here more.

Hey, Tony, this is a great tune and I like your vocal as well as your guitar. And composition. (Were you being Zep-sneaky mention those "honey dripping" trees?) As long as you asked, it sounds like the kick is punching a hole in the red. But the music's just killer. Nice use of keys, too... just about the way a guitar-centric mind ought to use them, nice and supportive but not limelight-stealing.

This is fun and really well produced, too. For all the wildness, there's SO MUCH restraint in this mix, including the balance of those very well-done vocals and the subtle keys in the background. This is so entertaining.... glad to sneak a few minutes from my so productive workday!
A Hard Days Night (Beatles Cover) by Tony2008 1 year ago
This absolutely has a live feel to it, and I appreciate your raw feel, it's more like it would sound if the Beatles actually would sound live today if they remained friends, didn't age, didn't start getting struck by bullets or cancer cells, and decided to rock again (like Paul did, except with John, it wouldn't be so damn wimpy!). I can't believe this came out of you! Pretty neat. One day I'm gonna have to ask you how to master... without buying any software beyond GarageBand to do it--haha! ***** x 4

First off, I like your voice, it belongs with loud guitars. Second off, I like your loud guitars, and here I'm all delighted bv your clear left-and-right rhythm guitars, against which your smooth OD-leads really stand out. Did your varied chops and especially that killer bridge solo. And "effen A" on getting a real, life drummer, he sounds great back there. The very mild reverb on your voice sounds like real-room reverb from your new house. Despite "favorite-ing you," I think I've missed some or most of your music here, which is a shame. I'll try to correct that, because there's no doubt more talent where this simply wonderful music came from.

Don't be sorry, you've got great taste in music. Superb. Great blues feeling and chops, they really hit the spot. Your blues leads are doing me a real favor tonight, because me and my Strat are too tired to play tonight. And the keys are just so great here, too. Right around halfway, I just drift along with you.

I was fine with this piece as it was, moving along with a really pleasing groove, when you launched into that nice funky (Latin-influenced?) jazz section at the end, which is great.
Lord Gaga by facturer 1 year ago
This is pretty cool. As far as your idea of having someone add to it, I really hear somebody singing a great story to this tune. I get a wintery feel, a White Album kind of feel, like the Queen of Marigolds is in the kitchen (as in Cry Baby Cry). Can't you just find a John Lennon to team-up with? I could swear this carries his sprit. Now, what is it you want to say with those words? Hmm...

Great in both those soaring vocals and the power of those guitars - -from the chords to the way those lead runs add depth in the second half. Backup's just as powerful, from the rest of the "band" to the soaring support vocals. Drums -- especially those toms -- really work great, remind me of the great John "Bonzo." Super studio polish... Congrats on a great tune... again!

Well then, comedy Jazz World Blues it is. Sometimes you just need to blow-off steam with some friends. You give this a tropical darkness Disney seemed to miss. Like Baloo said, and I quote: [i"]Well, it's a doo-bah-dee-doo, yes, it's a doo-bah-dee-doo, I mean a doo-bee..."[/i]

Well written and well done all around. Let me delve into the lyrics a little: Seems as if you're living in a moment with each detail you illustrate in these lyrics. The question is whether you want to feel good or not feel good when encountering the unexplainable feeling of each moment. and detail -- we project our feelings onto these little diamonds. You encapsulate all these details into a fine one, yourselves, here. Good luck with that album.

Interesting synth & acoustic guitar blend makes my ears perk-up from the intro, and your vocals are great. No hiding that auto-tune/vocoder... it's a style and an effect here, not a crutch you're hiding behind; I get it. And you've got a good, emotional wave happening here. Short but neat.

What a great little animal this tune-let is. Reminds me of what Lester Bangs used to write about the heart of rock and punk -- the dirty, greasy, grimy, angry, happy and free and spirit of it, not the polished "marketable" side of music. (Which, incidentally, ain't so marketable anymore.) Just don't post all these things on the same damn day burying everyone else -- meathead! -- and people might actually give you some open ears for the challenge you present here. You're great.

Tsuch a damn pity you're not in my neighborhood and don't need another guitar player. Or a roadie.. I just wanna hang-out with you and let the inspiration rub-off. Problem is, I might glow in the dark if you're hangin' round those cooling towers. What can we do but dance?

I haven't heard all your songs here but you're on my radar and I'll be getting the to them!
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (cover) by randolf 1 year ago
Which one's Paul McShatner and which one's Elton Lennon? I have to admit I'm jealous, but could Neverevereverever come close to getting the right tone to do a Beatles cover this closely. (Although I will never-ever sound as bad again as I did on GH's Give me Love! NExt stiop: Helter Sklelter, Yer Blues or Everybody's Got something to Hide (Except...). Here you've got nice non-smoked-out voices.

Now -- are you ready? -->I want the concert video!
Happiness by khu 1 year ago
Si Si Si Si! What an absolute marvel. Dan, Steve, you overwhelm me with this one. I haven't heard such a blend of joy and grit since Paul Weller was in the Jam. But with the craft and non-ironic joy of a good Smokey Robinson song. Lead vocals define it, done just right. Sonja and Paris are great in delivery as well as the those cool phrasings... hah, hee, si! The reverb on the e-drums, those crunchy chords and those very vocal guitar solos-- is pure happiness. A MUST-DOWNLOAD! ***** all the way.
Still My Heart by Bob6stringer 1 year ago
@MusicLeft thanks; first time I started writing on bass. It kept the arrangement a little cleaner I think.
@SteveScott who am I to argue with Dani?! Super thanks.
@pharmakeus @Dylan and @eagle I'm glad my voice works for you guys, I've been working-up to this kind of thing, I've been working-up my courage to put a little more into it. Again, thanks from the bottom of my... well, you know.
That Man (drunk by the swimming pool) by Dyl 1 year ago
This song really holds up as a slightly off-kilter look at that slightly off-kilter character by the pool. Some idiot four years ago wrote that the vocals "could be dewatered a little in my opinion but it's still, overall, a well-performed little bit of great fun."

What an idiot! He just didn't understand that every great musician has a right to build a piece of music to suit the mood. Change this, and it just doesn't set the right mood. It's a real hoot to revisit this song and listen with new, older ears.
Standard White Jesus (Timbuk 3 cover) by Dyl 1 year ago
Holy Barbara K. Macdonald, man! This is pretty cool, and you both capture the essence of the original and bring, I dare say, more moodiness to your version here. Maybe it's more reverb, but also your voice is carrying a little more darkness, and less slickness. That guitar solo really rips it up, too, nice and greasy! Excellent WorkPlay on this one, oh pop-musicologist brother.
Beautiful World (Devo cover II) by SteveScott 1 year ago
You're versatile to cover this and get this so DEVOiod! Nice bit of fun between your originals.
