I like how this tune crawls in slowly... with the shakers and then that great horn part. Perfect production as always, with a great vocal and lyrics. That horn really makes the tune. Top work, Bernardo.

Came back for another listen to one of my all-time favorite icomp songs. Standin' on a corner, with their guitars in their hands.. jkane and dylan, they oughta form themselves a rock and roll band. And everyone who ever had a heart, they'd turn 'em up loud and listen.

Stunning performance, Cat. This update takes something that was perfect and makes it even better. I really like the new Steinway sound. And of course your voice is magic. Pure magic.

Nice, happy song. There is a lot going on here, and I think the rest of the comments capture the depth of this performance which might be lost on a casual listener. The dynamics, interplay of the vocals, layering and building of the piece make it all come together into something magnificent. It is clear you put your heart and soul into this one, PP. Great effort by all involved!

Fantastic. Petra, Dyl, Johan, you make a great combination. The guitar/bass/organ and keys/strings are a perfect foundation for the soulful, expressive voices. I hope your music finds many listeners, they will all certainly be pleased.

What an intriguing piece of music, Bob. Many listens required to take it all in. I like the references to Yes that others have commented on, with a hint of Blues, Folk, and even Electronica. You worked hard and covered all the bases - well done!

15 Weeks (HTB) by becwil 1 year ago
The picture sets the mood nicely. Rhythmic, hypnotic, mechanical, capricious. Toy soldiers on the march. Then the guitars creep in toward the end... just a little bit, like dipping a toe into the shallow end of Surak's pool. Careful Bec, I hear there is a scary monster in there, and it just might pull you in and turn you into a Kauai Headbanger!
Great work, looking forward to the rest of the journey in the Hard to Bear collection.

Muddy Water - trial mix #6, FINAL? for Bridge Creek CD by BridgeCreek 1 year ago
Hee Hee - those who know Dave know that is a big back-handed British compliment to the one and only James Big-Beat Moore!!!! What is cool about Bridge Creek (in addition to the fact that the bass player can now retire forever from mixing) is that we have not 1 but basically 4 drummers: The incomparable James Moore from the United Kingdom, the fabulous and wise Tony Grant from Canada, the erudite Dean Thurston (emeritus, retired, gone to educate the next generation of musicians) and the phenomenal Scott Garvey (who you see behind the kit with us every night in our home town of Portland, Oregon).

Thanks Dave for listening, and we appreciate your feedback (and your english wit!!)
I Meant Every Word by born2rock 1 year ago
this is a great trip... hard to find a song that defies classification into a genre but this one sure does. Mark heard Abba, and I'm hearing Enya. And still a little bit of Velvet Underground. But in a fresh and original way. Hope you two do more songs together, this is very impressive.

Hi Born, welcome to icomp! Hey we have something in common right away: I hate mixing too.

As for the tune: well, I dig it. Reminds me a bit of Lou Reed, Velvet Underground. I seem to be in a Lou Reed mood. I think the mix works: it has a lo-fi, no-name feel that fits the theme of the tune. This is stripped down, and it makes a point. What more can you ask for?

What I Dont Need Now - trial mix #4 by BridgeCreek 1 year ago
Thanks everyone. Tony good catch on the bass and guitars and snare/HiHat. I moved the bass to center, and panned the guitars a little to make the mix a little less right-heavy. I also EQed the bass a little bit so that the snare and HiHat now cut through
better. I appreciate everyone providing feedback. A couple more mixes and I think we're have these tunes in the can.

What I Dont Need Now #2 trial mix for CD, Needs David Vocals by BridgeCreek 1 year ago
Great feedback as always. Garni had some cool ideas on how get the drums and bass right in the mix. Main issue I'm seeing in this thread was the effects I put on the guitars - last version needed more EQ but I think I picked the wrong EQ. I have an idea on how to fix it: I'll have David come over, sing his backing vocals, and sit with me till his guitar sounds the way he wants it to sound.

I'll post the updated track in a week or so. I have a feeling that in a couple more mixes I'll finally get it right.

It takes a village to help me mix a tune smiley Maybe I'll just need to go take a class and actually learn how to mix. (or better yet I think our next CD we have a line on a studio that will record us and mix us so I can be the little old bass player and song writer).

MANY, MANY thanks for all the great comments. Irok all the best. Tony, you are the man and always will be. Henno, Pharm, 4arms, Jeff, have a happy holiday!!!!!!

Treat Me Right - old version Jan 13 2008 by BridgeCreek 2 years ago
Julian, B, Feenixx, Laz: thanks a lot for the helpful feedback.

We're going to take another shot at Treat Me Right mixing and final vocal work based on this feedback. Here is my "Punch list" so far, to finish the song:
- Drop volume of backing vocals in chorus
- Re-do or drop backing vocal in 2nd part of last verse
- Get rid of the places where the lead vocal hisses and
pops, or have Lisa re-record it.

I'll be working on these and any other suggestions people have in the next few days. Then I'll pull down this version and re-post a new improved version.

I appreciate these suggestions. Thanks a lot!

Thank you so much Padowan, Shadow, and Bob6 - it is very rewarding as musicians to have thoughtful people give the music a careful listen. We are taking your comments to heart, and your timing is perfect to offer them because we're still figuring out how we want our "studio" sound to come across. I have been doing the mixing, and it's dangerous to let a bass player into the control room smiley Your feedback has already given me a few ideas on where to go next, so many thanks to all of you. I hope we get some more listeners and helpful feedback along these lines.
Thank you kindly,
