Biography
42 years & running. (bleh) I'm a lawyer by profession (hohum); husband and a dad; been married for the last 9 years, to my wife, Aileen, whom I met almost 20 years ago. we have a lovely daughter, Maggie
Coming from a family of music lovers/musicians, I was 'forced' by my parents to take piano lessons at an early age. hated it. lasted for a couple of years. was again, forced to take up flute lessons after my sister gifted me w/ one. that didn't last long either.
fast forward to my teen years, MTV was the rage. Only then did I realize that music was so COOL. picked up drumming. there was a drum set lying around in the house that nobody was using. there were a bunch of other instruments too: a piano, an accordion, a cello, an organ, a couple of guitars ( electric, bass, spanish), a couple of percs and amps. that NOBODY was using (except for the piano, my father still loves to play it & my sisters on occasion) . I was the youngest in the family & I guess everybody moved on to doing something else. it was a gold mine for me. I tried everything. except for the guitar fundamentals, that my sister, Marietta, was kind enough to teach me, I basically taught myself how to play. until later on I got pretty good w/ the drums & the guitars. not virtuoso good but good enough to play in a band I guess. & I became a member of a couple of garage bands. name it, I probably played it: classic rock, punk, heavy metal, new wave, pop, jazz, funk, latin
& then law school came along & ruined everything...
I pretty much had to choose between being a musician and a lawyer. one older sister is a doctor, another older sister is also a lawyer; so that kind of settled it. i was expected to finish law school and abandon all notions of being in the music industry.
during the whole time that I concentrated on my legal career (stressed the hair/hell out of my head is more like it), I still maintained a very keen interest in music. but more as a fan or afficionado (CD collector/ iPod enthusiast) rather than as a musician. & then Garageband & iComp came along....I'm only now realizing how much joy I've deprived myself.
I use my M-Audio midi keys as my primary instrument now through Logic. ( that i've loaded in my iMac/ my Macbook acts as a portable studio also but only GB is in it) every now & then I still use my old Ibanez RG & Yamaha bass fed through M-audio interface. my drumset of old is long gone but I still do have a digital drum that can be fed into the Mac as a midi controller. It's never too late nor can one be too old to experience the joys of music creation. thanks to iComp & its community of wonderful & talented musicians.
