Thanks MMI. I think this one is pretty much settled now, after having not been touched for nearly a year. Wonder if I'll ever add that radio chatter I wanted. smiley smiley

I did indeed ask you to. Thank you for obliging. smiley

Ideally, at least for my stuff, I feel stars should be earned for merit, rather than docked for demerit. Makes it more useful and reflects reality a bit better, I think.

not finished.... yeah, I get that feeling too. seems like it needs to wander a little bit more. Seems to be following a single theme for a single iteration.... should be closer to 6 or 7 minutes long, plus some vocals I think.

Thanks very much for the comments everyone! Keep em coming!

I likes it. Visualizing either sitting on the stoop, or at a picnic. Laid back, sunny spring day.

'Cross my face sweeps the cool spring breeze,
gliding among the wak'ning trees.
Closing our eyes, we reach to the Sun,
Bathed in Life's glow, you and I are one.

Awesome, flat out.

Honesty in Rating:

Concept: How entertaining is it? (Very. Smooth roll from one phase to another, crosses many concepts, which are all well blended, with smooth transitions)
Creativity: Does it stand on its own, or is it clogged with Cliché? (Stands on its own, breaks new ground. Does not seem to be mired in someone else's style)
Performance: How well played? (Mostly digital, it seems, so very little room for problems here. Guitar loop could use some cleaning up, MAYBE. Seems like it hangs just a hair too long before repeating. Maybe you did that on purpose.)
Production: Are levels good, and the track overall free from distortion, etc? (Yep, just that guitar issue, makes it sound like the timing is just a tad off. Also, the track ends rather abruptly, which is a little jarring in an otherwise very smooth and mellow track.)

Great track overall. I really like it when people mix styles effectively, and especially when they give a good long track.

Beautiful piece, and both beautifully and expertly played!

Honesty in rating:
Concept: How good is the original composition? (Beautiful)
Creativity: How much artistic license, skillfully done, is taken? (No way for me to tell)
Performance: How together are the parts, and how many errors? (Very well, and almost none. Beautiful!)
Production: How is the overall audio fidelity? (Horrible. Huzzah for tape recorders!)

Hmm.. I was thinking about that very thing myself.. The drums were originally intended to be the guns firing, with the staticy messy sound, the kinda distorted wheezing thing, intended to be hostile ships flying by, incomming hostile rounds, and, when en masse, exploding ships.

I don't think I got the idea across very well though. I hesitate to take it too explicitly toward actual gun FX, or laser sounds, because it is SOOOO easy to make those sound really really cheesy. At the same time, I want there to be a definite pulse to the track, and a definite sense of what is going on; it should be easy to tell when we are dog -fighting, when there is a lull, and when we do the final assault on the mothership. I want the visualizations to be clear, and completely, or at least primarily, conveyed by instrument rather than by SFX.

OK! Looks like this one is *ALMOST* popular, so lets do something fun:

As I said above, I'm going to add a vocal track to this one, in the form of 'radio chatter', i.e. two people talking back and forth over boat/ground vehicle/orbital vehicle comm. radios. I haven't written the script yet, so it's still open ended. I'm curious to see what the listeners can come up with. So if you'd like to take a go at it, listen to the track, and scribble out a script, write real lyrics, RECORD real lyrics, or whatever else you want to do towards the goal of getting a vocal track on this sucker, and send it off to me (msg me for the email address, if you want to send an attachment)! once I've got a few submissions, I'll sift through them and select part/all/none of each one and include it in the final version, along with credit and thanks to those who's content I end up using. This could be fun!

Feel free to interpret the context of the music however you want, be it in a club, on a ship, or whatever. Be creative! (wait, I don't need to say that here, do I?)

Hey, I recognize some of those loops! ;D

very good mix. it's got that entrancing plodding quality that would let it go on for 5 or 7 minutes without complaint. A little something to break up the stepping, and this could evolve into an awesome club track.

OMG, you're killing me! you keep going on these really great sound paths and then BAM! just as I'm beginning to flow with it, you stop, pause, and take a different tack! Perfect timing! I'd love to see some of those paths show up again in something else, and to greater length!

prod gets 4 cause it sounds like there's some considerable popping. May have been intentional, though I think the track would be just as rewarding and a little smoother without them.

Awesome track!

Thanks guys! I've got one more thing to add to the track. I'm going to add a vocal track in the background with some radio chatter. I'll upload that separately when it's done. Downloads now enabled for this guy too!
