Biography

Conquest was formed in 1984 by Sean Montgomery and Jeff Delarm. The idea was to do music that was not like the popular music of the time. The band recorded nearly every weekend and wrote close to 60 songs, most of them long, winding opuses that really had no purpose or point.
The moniker MEC, or Musical Expressionist Company, was added in 1985 when both founding members became obsessed with the Fairlight CMI, a sampling keyboard that, at the time, cost well over $100,000. They also figured, given the nature of their compositions, that this was a fitting title.
Through 1989, the band changed significantly. Musicians were added and dropped and the band tried to evolve into something else, but no one was exactly sure what. At it's high point, there were 6 members. Technology also played a major role in the band's evolution. As more equipment appeared, so did the sophistication of the compositions.
Finally, in 1989, the band split ways. Interests divulged, and so did the members.
In 2001, the band reformed with the idea to make great music. Their years apart gave each member experience with their instrument and with writing music. The second song recorded, Hold On, made it onto You Might Have A Tapeworm, the bands first "new" release.
