Thank you everyone for your kind words. Darlene is a poet, so for her, the constraints of lyric writing are daunting. We worked hard on this and we are happy with the result. We hope it brought a smile to a face or two...that's what it's all about.

Hey Anne,
Thanks for listening...glad you enjoyed it. Darlene has always been a great poet, but it took some coaxing to get her to sing into a mic. This is the first recording she has done in 20 years.

One at a time, I am making my way through your songs. This one is very touching. I posted a series of songs for my daughters earlier this year...some of the best work I've done. It's extraordinary how inspiring your children can be.

Great work!

Very nice track, but I have to agree with your wife. The Ch Ch and the clicks sound manufactured. Congas and djembe would be cool in this arrangement.

Very cool. Well written...well recorded...well performed. There's a Todd Rundgren quality to your voice and the chorus sounds like CSN joined in. I REALLY enjoyed this.

Thank you all very much. This took me back to my funky blues days with The Silver Moon Allstars. Our motto was "we rehearse once a year whether we need to or not."

The guitar solo on this was exceptionally fun...especially the very last note. I don't know if this happens to any of you, but it is so cool to listen back to a solo like that and say, "did I just do that?"

Thank you Donna for a killer vocal. Glad we were able to overcome the technical issues.

Thanks again everyone.

@kennethlavrson I was reluctant to take on this project at first. I played the original idea for my wife and she gave me a stearn look. I said, "I'm sorry, Yes Dear" and I got to work on it.

Glad you like it! Thanks for listening!

This is a very cool song. CSN inspired harmonies. Love the stereo lead part at the beginning. The verse and chorus sections contrast nicely, but I keep waiting for a bridge...something that breaks the groove only to re-introdice it later. Great tune!

This is special. The lyrics drag you through the angst of what it is to be human, and let you emerge with the hope of belief. Thank you!

Drummers dont get much credit and, in most cases, for good reason. Ben indeed knocked it out of the park and who ever mic'd his kit and engineered the recording did as well!

You're an inspiration Scott. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

@pharmakeus - Thank you

@MattFrance - I've never been compared to Robert Plant...thank you. If I tried to push in the higher register I would lose my voice in minutes...acid reflux got me years ago. I'm still trying to figure out how to phrase the last part of the lyric. Hopefully I'll have a re-post of this song soon.

@SteveScott - All of the electric guitar parts were done with a Strat. I got the crunch with an ADA MP1 preamp, tube screamer, and compression. Glad you liked it!!!

@DaveM - what if god was one of us - of course! I knew it had a familiar ring but it was not coming to the front of my mind. Art beware......

Groove Learning by DanAnthony 11 months ago
@pharmakeus
I had the same frustration with GA3. I could not record an audio file and the automation would not play back correctly. Sometimes the fills would be 1 measure, then the next time it would be 2 measures. I got around it by using automation in Sonar to record several patterns, grooves, and fills. Then I exported (mixed) that track to an audio (WAV) file. Then I imported that file back into the project. I was then able to chop it up, measure by measure and cut and paste the patterns and fills where I wanted them. It's a lot of hoops to jump through, but it works.

I Came To Hear The Music by RedthruNthru 11 months ago
@grathy, @pharmakeus The guitar sound is a technique I picked up from Duane Allman many years ago. It's done by striking the note and then pulling the volume up. I call it the violin effect. For anyone who's interested, I produced this using a strat, an ADA MP-1 Preamp, Tube Screamer, Boss analog delay, and some long decay reverb in the mix. Thanks for listening everyone!

Alright Donna, I have to set the record straight. Donna contacted me in August 2010 about this song. I was in the middle of a project with my little brother at the time. That project ran long and in October I moved from Connecticut to LA. Donna was the patient one...it took me until December to get a rough track to her. This is a special song. I smiled a lot while working on it. I hope y'all smile as well!

When I listened to Tom's original post, I have to admit, I did not hear an ounce of Country. Someone who's mind was more open to that genre than mine saw it differently...and I'm so glad you did! Survival (human survival) in the 21st century hinges on our ability to appreciate and embrace minds that work differntly than our own. What a great interpretation...great lyric...great colab.
