Biography
Hey, there. I'm David Bowles, an educator, writer and musician from the southernmost tip of Texas. My musical training started when I began taking piano lessons at age 7, and over the years I have variously been taught or learned on my own to play keyboards, drums, bass and guitar; I've also been singing in front of people since I could speak (even won some shiny medals in HS choir... whoa, now you REALLY have to check my music out, heh). I have been making original music for 20+ years, beginning with a rock band in the late 80s called New Citizens, then moving on to cover groups that played in local bars, and (after a loooong hiatus) finally independently working on music using Garage Band. In January of 2007 I independently released my first album, This Insubstantial Pageant, through iTunes and other Internet music sites. The following year came my sophomore effort, Philosophical Zombie. In 2011 Malpaís became available as well.
Most of my songs are created using midi interfaces, though I occasionally throw in some live guitar and a virtual drum machine. In composing songs, I research Middle Eastern, Japanese, Latino and African rhythms and melodies, trying to find inspiration to create original pieces with a universal, timeless feel that fits my love of classical world literature.
