The Dirty Chaps is a collaboration between Pinkyrv (keyboards and assorted noisemaking machinery) and Tobubuta (guitar and guitar synthesizer), artists who have regularly posted work on iCompostions.
Every couple of months or so we get together, either at Tom's Rubbermaid Studio in Santa Cruz, CA, or at Doug's Cimarron Sound studio in Los Angeles, to record. We spend the first couple of hours chasing down buzzes and ground loops, blow up an amp or two, drop a laptop on the floor, and after we're good and satisfied, hit record and go for it.
What you hear is the result of these sessions, with the occasional editing of bad note or a technical glitch, and the post production additions of compression, etc. It's pretty much as we played. We even name the pieces before we even know what we're going to do, and sometimes have to go back later and change them. That's why our naming is sometimes so lame.
So no composing in the traditional sense, strictly improvisational. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed playing it.
