Our X-Mas present to you
December 24, 2007 | 4:03 pm

In the spirit of giving, we're giving as well.

I've noticed some very unselfish sharing of music recently, most notably from my iComp buddies Eidolonia and Balok, so I contacted John, and we decided to do the same thing.

Over the past year or so, the Fractal Garden project has been at work on our double CD, Pangaea. The CDs are pressed, and are en route to us. They will be in our hands later this week, in our collaborators' hands soon after, at CD Baby by sometime in January, and on iTunes several weeks after that. However we wanted to thank the fine folks at iCompositions (the artists, the listeners, and the moderators) by making a MP3 version of all of our songs available for a free, but temporary, download. Had it not been for iComp, John and I would not have met, not to mention all of the guest artists we had on Pangaea.

These are the same songs we've put up here at iComp, but each of them have been remixed and finessed. You'll find a new song as well as many enhancements to our other songs. I'm particularly proud of how Fractured Mind turned out compared to the original.

Obviously, the real prize to have is the CD, with the full color, eight page insert with John's art, as well as the full fidelity aiff's. To say that we're as proud as can be, to have enlisted the talents of 9 other fabulous artists from here in the US and England, all because of iComp, is quite the understatement.

Here's the playlist.

So, to business. The following link will be good for the next 7 days or 100 downloads, whichever comes first. After that, you'll need to check out CD Baby or iTunes. If days or downloads are exceeded, we won't be able to do this again.

This is John's and my way of thanking all of you for giving us the wild hair to further the Fractal Garden project. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Seasons Greetings, [insert whatever reason you have to celebrate] to all of you!

Jay the Ignoramus

Linkage: This is a zip file of the 16 songs on Pangaea's double CD.

Guys, this is an amazing gesture; if I wore a hat, it would be off to you right now. You cite Shadows as an influencing factor, but you guys -- and Balok -- are on a whole other level when it comes to professionalism and quality. I hope this promotes your awesome work to a whole new audience.

A great Christmas to you both!

Okay, so first I double-posted. Then I tried to edit the double-post to add a new message, and wound up deleting it... and then couldn't replace the deleted post with the new message. Argh! I blame the Baileys. This is what I was trying to say.

Argh, double post. Don't know how that happened.

Let me take this accidental opportunity, then, to say how inspirational I find it that a project like FractalGarden can exist at all -- two people brought together across the mighty Interweb, whose intersecting love of music produced not just a single collaboration, but whole albums of music.

At times, the Internet can be a wonderful place, and this is one of those times.
