It Just Happens Like That by GumboStu 4 years ago
Thanks guys. I have three tunes written now, and the beginnings of the recordings sorted out. Seven more to go to complete the Challenge. I get to feel good at work during the early part of the week, and then build up some frenzy for next weekend.

The RPM Challenge is a gas community of itinernet musicians who promise to do their damndest to get an album of previously unrecorded tunes together before the end of the month. They don't have to be written in Feb. Just recorded, but it can be taken to whatever level yo feel is a challenge.

It's a bit like taking a swim in the North Sea on New Years Day.

This works really well with your voice, jibes. Sounds simple but the rhythmic melody line is beautifully done. The lead guitar was a long time coming smiley There's a lovely 10 c.c. feel to this somehow.

Needs a harmony on the title line imho (but then I do like your harmonies)

bravo indeed, this feels like fun to me, and even though I put the original on a pedestal, I can enjoy this and would be there dancin and wavin and singin to hear it live. I think the guitars could/need to find something for the "Oh the water" part but.

There's a really nice Doo-Wop feel to this vocal, which takes me back to the fifties. I'm not suggesting that you go that way with it, just that there is that sweetness in the melody. This is a very pretty song for such a sad moment.

EDIT I got it: it's something that wouldn't be out of place on an album by The Fleetwoods, say. Lovely.

Richard, this is a cracker - stark and intense and not a haunted note out of place. Lovely production. The instruments, simple as they are in arrangement work perfectly. The energy is amazing enough but the whole "window to the soul" vitality of the performance blows me away.

Wonderful.

If I understand you right the 'sections' are distinct parts that are repeated (or not) and may recur. Is there a traditional chord pattern that is followed for consecutive sections as well? Or is that at the inspiration (or whim) of the composer?

This is indeed an education listening and reading the theory at the same time. especially when the music is so full of character. Thank you.

I wonder what tobbe said before he edited LOL you'd think a music teacher would've had something constructive to say but Hey! we all have bad days.

So we're talking about a WIP (work in progress) here, and it sounds like you have the vocal pretty much sussed. I agree with Shadowofdeath about mixing. One of the guitars keeps pushing the vocal out. (levels)
You have three(?) lead guitars and it's crowded. drop the middle one and see what happens. (space)

It's a good groove and a mellow melody. DLTBGYD smiley
