Biography
Jan Civil has existed for years, in one form or other. (Mostly Other.)
Example Given: free associations, aka free ***, was a container for work ranging from utterly free space to various exercises in other fields of alternative audio entertainment; for instance, The Airport Lounge Band or Los Brazos Balladeros, which were both vehicles which operated *under cover*. (IE: The containers for the content were well known popular songs.)
The Green Show - in The Green Room at the old Museum of Modern Art, housed then at War Memorial Opera House, in San Francisco - is a historical example. From 'Theme From Green Acres' to 'The Ballad of the Green Berets'... a dramatic (anti-war) narrative in a multimedia presentation, (The participants included members of PFS (Cuneiform Records) and the original designer of THX Sound, who made an ambient installation for the event.)
Now, the going concern is a band (no hay banda) sound called Tigress and the U-Fraidees, in the digital audio format, which is so popular with you young people today.
Jan feels it isn't her job to put music in bins, that's for a record store to do, so 'no genre' is preferred. That being said, you can say it's more or less "serious music". But, that *we feel* that humor does belong in music. ("If you've got her laughing, you're half way there already")
The compositional modus operandi here tends to be improvisation culled into a more solid container.
(But that isn't to say 'not designed'...)
