Biography
Hello. My name is Jay Hagen and I am a freelance trumpet player residing in NYC. I also teach band at Grimes Elementary School in Mount Vernon, NY.
My formal music training consists of two years at Berklee College of Music, a BS in Music Education from Nazareth College in Rochester, NY, and an MM in Jazz and Contemporary Music from the Eastman School of Music. I played lead trumpet with the Eastman Jazz Ensemble for two years.
I have performed with several popular bands in the Rochester, NY area, including the Legendary Dukes and Nik & the Nice Guys, and worked on cruise ships for Norwegian and Royal cruise lines before coming to NYC. Currently, I am active on the local club date scene, primarily with the band 52nd Street Swing, and have been the principal trumpeter with the New York Repertory Orchestra since 2000.
I recently began writing music with GarageBand as a vehicle to feature my trumpet playing. Any constructive comments you may have are most welcome.
