Thank you, Bernard, for inviting me to play on this beautiful track. It's not often that I get to play on a piece of such breadth and depth, and I really felt that I had to stretch a bit to deliver what this piece required of me. Thanks, also, to those who enjoyed my playing enough to comment on it here. Your kind words are truly appreciated. My case thanks you as well. smiley Finally, kudos to Tom for his wonderful singing bass. It was an honor and priveledge for me to be a part of this superb musical team.

Yeah, Jeff!

What a great sound you get with that harmon mute! And your soloing is outstanding! (I dug that little "Rockin' In Rhythm" quote you snuck in.)

Jen and Cameron are also great players who compliment you very well.

It's great to actually see you in action. Well done, my friend!

Sounds great, Paul. I really like the snare drum sound, the rapid repeated notes in the brass (lots of double tonguing), and the wailing french horns. You are truly an expert at orchestration!

YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT LOVE IS (smooth) by pedroberto 3 years ago
When Pedro asked me to play on this track, the only possible answer was "Of course!" There is a gorgeous trumpet solo (by Mel Davis) on the Billie Holiday recording, from her album "Lady In Satin," and Chet Baker also recorded it at least three times. So, in my mind, this song has a long tradition as a trumpeter's ballad. It was, therefore, an honor and privelege for me to be a part of this project.

Pedro made an absolutely superb arrangement, and Mary also sings marvelously. Thanks to Pedro for the invitation to participate in this project. Thanks, as well, to all of you who have commented so far. I hope many more people get to hear enjoy this wonderful music.

Cool, whacky rhythm track, and the guitars add a nice flavor to the whole piece. I agree with Woofer3 about the symmetry of the arangement - it lends order and logic to the whackiness. If I like this, will I become a Zombie? smiley

What I love about this piece/performance, is that it sounds like nothing else I've heard in this genre. Very soothing and meditative. I do detect a slight Indian flavor, due to your penchant for ornaments, the solo violin, and the improvisatory nature of the entire piece. Also, I think I heard some tabla in there. Yes? I wish I could play the piano as well as you! smiley

Very nice piece of music, Paul. I particularly liked how the first two movements were linked thematically, the interplay between the bass, piano and violins in the second, and the beautiful string writing in the third. Great use of dissonant harmonies - always sounding warm and lush, but never harsh. Well done!
Grotesqueries for Orchestra - First Movement by soulima 3 years ago
Great miniature piece, John. I like how everything is set against the bassoon figure that's stated in the beginning and continues throughout - a kind of rhythmic ostinato that hold it all together. Everything else is like pointillistic "ear candy" sprinkled on top. Great fun to listen to!

I feel like I'm late to the party, and any comment I could make here seems inadequate. Great song Mark! My toes are tired from tapping, but I'm afraid I have to join the chorus of those who want more vocals in the mix. And I'm the kind of guy that never even pays attention to lyrics - just the horn parts smiley Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go pay some bills.

NICE track Paul!! The Soprano sax is a lot like the trumpet in that you have to physically work hard to produce a good tone, and I love the very personal and soulful sound you're getting out of that horn.

rnh556: YOU ARE CORRECT!!!

Paul quoted from Sting's "King of Pain" (in the Coda) and I countered with "Don't Stand So Close to Me" or "Money for Nothing" ("I Want My MTV") as you so astutely pointed out. A bit cheesy, I admit, but I couldn't help myself.
