Thanks for the comment and rating, bro. This was always one of my favorite beats that I made, and I never understood why it didn't get more plays on iComp. Perhaps I'll re-open this tune with Logic and tweak it a bit. The mix is certainly not good, and I didn't even know what mastering was when I made this beat. So, it could stand some improvement.

Thanks for the suggestions, Pete. I'm not sure if I want to resurrect this one. I really didn't like how it turned out. Feel free to download and remix it or add parts to it. I'd even be willing to give you the .band file if you want it. Otherwise, it might be a while before I turned my attention back to this. I have some newer beats that I will be uploading soon.

Thanks, Pete. I always liked this tune because I kept the lyrics radio friendly. Most of the rappers I work with aren't really feelin' the radio edit.

Thanks for listening, Leona. This is my least favorite beat that I've made. I was going for an edgy rock sound kind of like that Jay-Z remix of Encore with Linkin Park. It didn't come off how I planned.

Oh my, I didn't realize you had already posted this. This is pretty cool. I don't think the vocals are too low. They actually sounded a bit loud on my system, but then again, I was listening on my laptop speakers.

Thanks for using my beat. Very cool track. Keep up the nice work!

Thanks for the ratings. I really don't like the mix on this song, and I'd like to go back and take off some of the effects. The vocals sound a little unnatural. Anyway, I'm glad people are enjoying this one. It was fun to record.

Yo, Gansta: I'm not really sure what you mean. We're just trying to build our studio and get our music out. No companies were involved in this production.

Thank you Boris. I appreciate the feedback. I have been thinking about re-recording this song because it was one of the first tracks I did with GarageBand. I think I can get better mic presence now. Plus, I have a lot more experience mixing and mastering.

At any rate, thanks for listening.

The beat and singing are smooth. I didn't particularly like the verses; the rhythm just didn't feel tight. Nice track. The production is pretty good too. Work on your lyrical delivery a bit more, not just the lyrics themselves. Peace.
Tennessee (feat. Renegade) by JazzOne 6 years ago
Thanks for the comments and ratings fellas. There is actually a funny story that goes along with this tune. Renegade and Jon Doe almost got into a fist fight a few months ago. Renegade's friend wanted to turn it into some gang $h!t. I haven't heard from Renegade since. He pretended like he didn't know me anyway, so good ridance.

Yo Nez, I did a lot of different things to cut out some of the extra noise, but for some reason I had a problem with this song. I can't seem to figure it out, but the recorded tracks were actually cut at the beginning of the beat. I don't know what caused those bumps and noises. They are especially bad on Doe's verse. I'd like to re-record the whole thing to tell you the truth. Peace

I really dig this tune. Hey, I'm a jazz sax player. I am getting back into it after about a year off. I'd love to collaborate with you. Do you know a tune called Mr. PC? If I could get you and this drummer to lay down some rhythm over that tune, I can play the head and tight solo.
Jazzed by Kapalikuokalani 6 years ago
Fun track, but I'm not sure this is really jazz. The three main elements that separate jazz from other music forms are syncopation, improvisation, and instrumentation. Plus, the harmonies in this tune are not those of traditional jazz.

Anyway, I'm not casing on your tune. I'm just a bit of a jazz purist, and I think of Miles and Trane when I think of jazz. You should consider picking up Miles' album "Kind of Blue." I think it is the best-selling jazz album of all time, and there is a good reason for that.
I'll Be There by porkonrye 6 years ago
Nice flow on this one. It's cool to hear what someone else did with this beat. My only advice would be on the production tip. Be careful with that reverb! It's really too much, I think. Also, the vocals seem too loud. Mixing is a difficult art, but I think if you really cranked up the volume on this track, you'll see how the verses are too loud.

Anyway, cool track. That new mic sounds good. I just think the production is a little raw. I'd like to hear the overdubs faded down a couple notches too.

The overall level of the song is pretty loud. Be careful that it's not clipping and that you're not overusing the compression and limiter. Those effects get more volume by removing dynamic contrast. Some variation in the volume is a good thing that you don't want to take out just for the sake of loudness.

Party Hardy (Take Two) by JazzOne 6 years ago
Matt pretty much keeps me up to date. He wants to do that freestyle mix tape with the platinum beats you picked. We'll probably use original beats for solo or collab albums, but not the mix tape. I think the whole thing will start up again next weekend. Some of it depends on Matt's work schedule.

Hey, would you be down to re-record your verse on Southern Style? I had an idea of taking my verse out, giving Matt a longer verse, and then using Gideon's part as the hook since it's only 8 bars. But, I'd like to get it all recorded with the new booth and software. Let me know if you're cool with that.
Party Hardy (Take Two) by JazzOne 6 years ago
I'm still not sure if I'll be moving to Houston in August, but now it's looking more like I'll be in EP for another year. I'm already working out the details with Slim and Jon Doe to get the studio operational again. We need to organize a recording session and get everyone together. Doe thinks those platinum beats are money for this project.
Double Pump - Walk Proud(Unfinished) by SSMGreedy 7 years ago
Nice beat. Vocals are hard to hear. Perhaps a little compression on the vocal track would help.
Public Service Announcement (feat. Jon Doe) by JazzOne 7 years ago
Thanks for the comments and rating AnangaRanga. I do most of the mixing and mastering at our studio, so I listen to the recordings very carefully while EQing, effecting, etc. The biggest difference I hear between recordings in the booth and outside the booth is that the acoustic foam eliminates any echo. When we used to record in the living room, there would be some ambient noise from the room, like the echos bouncing off the walls. Our recordings sound cleaner now with no echo. Perhaps it is a minor point, but I think it matters most when you are applying heavy effects. Sometimes this can accentuate noises in the recording, so we have attempted to eliminate those noises.

Yo, I'd EQ the highs down a ton on the vocals. Those whistling S's are not nice to listen to.

That beat is hot. Keep working on the flow, though. The lyrics are good, but the delivery is, well, square.
Feels Good (rmx final cut) by porkonrye 7 years ago
That echo effects sounds cool at the beginning, but I still think it muddies up the vocals once the verse comes in. The lyrics are cool, the flow is cool. The beat is nice too. Nice track. Just ease up on the effects! They take away from the vocals, really. That strong echo/reverb makes it sound like you recorded it in the bathroom. Nice track though. Keep 'em coming.

Yo Dappa, I am responsible for this! I told WoodGuy to make his hip hop beats a little less heavy on the instrumentation and to slow them down. At least he takes advice well! You may have overshot a bit, Woodguy. The tempo is nice, and I like the beat, but try a little more melody now! Hahaha, I'm not trying to be picky, just telling you what I hear. I'm still working on some lyrics, but it's not easy because I am really more of a financial manager for Studio 915 than an artist. I don't have a lot to do with our musical content. Nonetheless, as soon as I have some lyrics written, I'll step in the booth and drop it for ya!

Thanks for the beats and e-mails. Hope to work with you on that sample beat soon. Peace. I speak for my entire organization when I say that we appreciate your interest and your musical enthusiasm. Please keep listening and posting!
Bank Head (feat. SmoKey) by JazzOne 7 years ago
Wow, AtlantaBoy, you used your first two posts on iComp to spread some hate! Congratulations! However, you are not the first one to notice that SmoKey bit this hook from Ludacris, so I hope he will be a little more original on the next track. Then again, this is the man's first published song! Perhaps a little slack is in order? I would not like my whole career judged by my first song! Would you? Speaking of which, you have posted no songs of your own. Pretty easy to make fun of others instead of doing something useful yourself.

Peace. Check out some of my other artists. Maybe you'll like them a little better.

Aaaaaaaaaawwwww yaaaaaaa. This rocks, bro. Best one yet. I know I keep saying that, but I haven't listened to all your beats yet. This one has some real kick to it, and that bass line is so smooth it just sets the stage for some vocals. I'm going to show this to my boy Jon Doe. Check out my song called Party Hardy. Has a similar groove.

http://www.icompositions.com/auditorium/showphoto.php?photo=10565

Let me put some lyrics on this one. Jon Doe and I can rip this beat, I think.
Audiomind by Audiomind 7 years ago
This beat is hot too. I like the sounds you used. Different, but clean. Very creative. This one seems to have a better groove than the others. Got my head boppin' right away. The simple melodic lines in the organ give me some really cool ideas for a hook on this one. How about if I let someone in my crew through some vocals on this? Maybe even me, I'm not sure. Anyway, let me know if it's cool, but don't expect the recording any time soon. I've promised a few other people some lyrics as well.
Daddy Green Jeans by Audiomind 7 years ago
Welcome to iComp, Audiomind. Ssaxamaphone told me you had some tight beats, so I'm just checking them out. This one is pretty hot. I like the piano part especially. Very melodic but not too much syrup for hip hop. Tight. Rhythm breaks are pretty hot too, I like that organ sound. The drums are pretty tasty too. Octaves at the end sound tight too. Nice change from the solo melody line. Oops, sound just cuts off at the end! It's just a beat, so I can't fault you for that really, but if you make a song out of this, I suspect you'll want to clean that up or fade away at the end.
another one for JazzOne-No.3 by woodguy32 7 years ago
Your best beat yet, Woodguy. This one really builds up, so it doesn't just sound like a loop. Hip hop is very repetitive music, so you have to be creative to insert some variety now and then to keep the beat interesting. Good job. My only suggestion would be to start playing around with samples because a simple vocal sample really adds depth to a beat, and it gives the vocalists some direction for the lyrics. Also, Jon Doe passed along some advise. He says you should NOT use acoustic drum kits, but instead, look for synthetic drum sounds like 808 or others. I personally disagree with that. I like the contrast of acoustic drums with synth bass and looped sounds. It just personal preference, I guess. Keep up the good work. Sounds kind of weird at the end where the rhythm gets heavy. Doesn't quite fit the groove. I really liked that low brass sound, though.
another one for JazzOne No.2 remix by woodguy32 7 years ago
Ya, it looks like you implemented some of my suggestions. This mix is much cleaner, easier to layer some vocals over it. My only comment at this point is, there is one point where the beat almost seems to drop. I'm sure it was intentional, but it sounds like a mistake. I would change that part a little. Either make it more obivous you are trying to drop the rhythm, or just let the rhythm play through.

Much improved, though. I usually don't like acoustic bass sounds in hip hop, but you pulled it off here. The bassline is clean enough so that it doesn't sound muddy. That's the problem I have with acoustic bass sounds, but you seem to have found a bass sound with a sharper attack than I have found, so it works.
Public Service Announcement (feat. Jon Doe) by JazzOne 7 years ago
Hahahahah, the end was hillarious when it happened! Thanks for the comments fellas! I thought this song came out pretty tight.
Bank Head (feat. SmoKey) by JazzOne 7 years ago
Damn!!! My man drops one track, and he's got comparisons to Luda and 50! I wasn't expecting that, but we need to get SmoKey back in the booth!
Bank Head (feat. SmoKey) by JazzOne 7 years ago
Hahahah, thanks for the comments fellas! Nice to get some feedback from the faithful so my new boy doesn't think it's all hate on this board. Honestly, SilentMike expressed his dislike for the song in a tasteful fashion, so I respect that.

I'm glad you are spreading the word MacMan. Learning to make hip hop music is a tough process, and we have experienced some growing pains, but we're determined to put out some quality music, and we take all advise into consideration. Keep bumpin' our new stuff because that old stuff is, well, old. Hahaha, thanks again.

Peace
Bank Head (feat. SmoKey) by JazzOne 7 years ago
SilentMike: SmoKey used Fruity Loops to make this beat, so I understand your point about the synth sounds. I am trying to let these guys know that Mac is the only way to go when it comes to music, but they're young. At least they hooked up with a studio with the right equipment! I have a PowerBook G4, an iMac G5 at home, and my partner is rolling with that dual processor G4.
Another Groov for JazzOne (Really) by woodguy32 7 years ago
If you are going to continue to make hip hop beats, let me offer some tips. Don't let the harmony get complicated. I notice some times when the mix gets very thick, and that takes away from the vocals. Also, the bass is a bit muddy. Maybe you should roll off the lowest frequencies a little bit? I'm not sure. Also, the pure electronica sounds are somewhat dated for hip hop. I would like to hear you try your hand at dropping a vocal sample.

Anyway, keep 'em coming, and I'll see what's up with these vocals.
Bank Head (feat. SmoKey) by JazzOne 7 years ago
Well, you may have meant to constructively criticize my man SmoKey, but you inadvertantly gave him top honors! A comparison to Ludacris is worth much more than five stars. Thanks for the comments. Peace.
Another Groov for JazzOne (Really) by woodguy32 7 years ago
Hot dog! I was working on a song for your first JazzOne beat, but this is way hotter. I think you're getting the hang of this. I especially like the slower tempo of this one. Makes it easier to rap too. Anyway, I hope to have a vocal version of one of the beats up real soon.
Bank Head (feat. SmoKey) by JazzOne 7 years ago
The learning curve for Logic is quite daunting, but well worth the effort. Thanks for the comments and ratings. The creativity of Logic is evident in the quality of the mixes coming out of Studio 915 lately.
A Groov for JazzOne (Really) by woodguy32 7 years ago
Yo, I didn't know what to think when I got your e-mail. I was like, Woodguy? Doing a hip hop beat? But this came out pretty hot, actually. I dig it. Let me talk to some of my peeps, and I'll see if we can't get some lyrics on this. My crew is really into different sounds, and I think they will like this.

Thanks for the beat. I am very pleased I could inspire this. It's after 1:00 am, and now I have to hit the lab! Damn you, WoodRascal!
Grammatix by porkonrye 7 years ago
I know you are trying to get that ambient vocal sound like you hear on professional recordings, but I still maintain that a little less on the modulation effect would be money. Just my opinion though. If you like the heavily effected sound, roll with it. After all, you gotta be unique to get noticed.

Oh, and that scratching at the end is dope. How did you do that?
The Flow by porkonrye 7 years ago
I thought the vocal level was fine, but if you get a lot of comments telling you that the lyrics aren't coming through, you might want to back off on some of the effects. Overall, it's a tight tune. My only suggestion would be to keep the rap vocals a little cleaner. I mean, you can hit the hook with some heavy effects, but I like to hear some contrast when the verse comes in so that the lyrics are easier to understand.

Having said all that, I could hear the vocals just fine. Still think the modulation effect on the verse is too much though. Sounds fine on the hook.
Blinded By Chrome by JazzOne 7 years ago
Woodguy, thanks again for the comment and rating. This beat was really easy to make because the AMG loops are broken up into parts of a beat that you can arrange. All I really did was put the pieces together so that the beat is not simply a 4-bar loop. The vocals took a little while longer because the song I sampled is a different tempo. I had to play around with Audacity quite a bit to get the pitch and tempo right. However, I think the vocal sample sounds too boxy, so I plan to reduce the lows on the EQ when I record on this beat. We'll probably have a song to this pretty soon. Keep looking for new tunes.

Right now I want as much exposure as I can get, so everyone is welcome to download my music for free. We will be selling a mix CD by May 1, 2005. Anyone who e-mails and pre-orders the CD will get a discount. The CD will cost $10 after the release, $8 if you pre-order. There is no need to pay now. Simply e-mail so I know who is interested, and I will keep a list. The CD will have about 15 songs of local artists from Texas. All tracks will be recorded at Studio 915 and mastered by me.
Party Hardy (Take Two) by JazzOne 7 years ago
Thank you, Yohmar. We felt the same way when we finished this song: SUMMER!!!!! This song has shot to the top of my play list, so we are going to re-record the vocals in 24-bit and mix it with Logic instead of GarageBand. The new version should sound much better, and it will be available as part of a mix tape that will go on sale May 1, 2005. If anyone is interested in pre-ordering the mix tape, please contact me. You do NOT have to pay now. I am just trying to gauge interest in the project.

Hahaha, this is great! I didn't know you could sing. You should put that talent to use on the hooks of your rap songs. Anyway, I'm not really into soft music, but this made me smile. Good job. I guess you touched a nerve in all our hearts (sigh). smiley
You Got Yours? (feat. Jon Doe, Rufus Buck & POP's) by JazzOne 7 years ago
There are many great underground musicians on iComp, so it is really an honor to be labeled "one of the top artists here." I have mixed emotions about commercial hip hop. There is much about it that I dislike, but then again, the professionals have the equipment to make their music sound good even if it is garbage.

Thanks for listening. By the way, you should check out the rapper/producer Kanye West. He has a CD out called College Dropout that is a lot deeper than just guns and drugs. His beats are tight as hell too, so I recommend the album to you.
Tennessee (feat. Renegade) by JazzOne 7 years ago
We enjoyed the collabo too, Renegade! I have some other producers asking me to give you beats, so I'll be in touch soon. By the way, you gave the song a 4 for performace? I thought the verse was fire. I would have given it a 5!

Dappa: Thanks for listening. Can't wait for that remix! I know, I know, your keyboard is on order...

Chatta: We appreciate the comments and ratings. I'm surprised you liked the mix because we found some errors in it the morning after we did the recording. It seems that Doe's vocals were not mixed very well, and we have since corrected that. However, we cannot upload the new version without losing all the comments.

Liquid: Thanks. It's uncanny how many people tell me that I should start a group with Jon Doe because we work well together. That's why we partnered up to create Studio 915, a local recording label in west Texas. Our website is coming soon!

Thanks for re-posting your comment and rating. I deleted the old version of this song because there was a glitch in the echo effect, but I fixed it. I listened to some of your beats the other day. I'll take another look and see what we can do about some lyrics.
Clear The Way by ssaxamaphone 7 years ago
Very nice production. The levels on this track are very high. Nice mix of compression, limiter, or whatever you used to do that. That second verse sounds kind of low on my system. Hard to hear the words at the beginning.

What kind of effects are you using on the vocal tracks? Just curious.
Southern Style by JazzOne 7 years ago
Thanks again. I like the way Dr. Dre makes beats because the bass is often the most prominent melody. So, I often try to capture that feel with a real nice bass line, but I'm still working out the kinks because my mixes are often very "boomy," and I think I should EQ the lowest frequences down a notch.

At any rate, Logic Pro 7 is a very expensive program (about $1,000 US). It is a powerful recording program, but you also need some nifty pieces of hardware to utilize all the functions of the program.

You might want to look into Logic Express 7. I am currently switching to that application because it is capable of recording audio in 24 bit instead of 16 bit like GarageBand. Logic Express is capable of sampling at a rate of 96 kHz, whereas GarageBand is limited to 44.1 kHz. Then again, I believe Logic Pro samples at 192 kHz, so it's all about how much money you want to spend. I think Pro Tools is even capable of 32 bit recording, but surely that requires some serious cheese.

Logic Express is about $300, and has a variety of other uses as well. It has a synthesizer (although I don't use it). Logic Exp is also capable of using GarageBand loops and MIDI instruments. The effects on Logic Express are also superior to those in GarageBand, but I am having a problem with the echo effect.

SilentMike: Thanks for the rating. I slowed down that sample for the hook to imitate the "screw" sound that comes out of Houston mostly. Read about it in the current issue of Scratch magazine if you're interested.

Nice try. I like the beat. I just don't like the sounds you picked for this. Actually, the more I listen to it, the more I like the retro feel.
Sicka Stones by JazzOne 7 years ago
Thanks for the comments jb. I make my beats with the aim of recording vocals over them. I find that hip hop tunes tend to be less complex harmonically than other forms of music. Nonetheless, your point is well taken that chord changes can add variety to a piece. I will keep that in mind when I make my next beat.

Another nice remix. Hot. NIce work. I like that echo to extend the short phrase. Strings are nice too. Breaks are clean. The beat is clean too, so all around, nice track. Props.

Yeah, I dig this. I'm feelin it bro. NIce beat. Simple, but it gets that head knockin, so who cares? Some lyrics would be fire on this. Mind if we throw a hook & some verses on it?

Thanks again, Lex. Maybe you'll see where I was going with this after we put the rap vocals on it.

Thanks for the comment, LW. We are planning to add a few rap verses to this, but the beat itself is done. Unless someone wants to do some singing on it?
