I enjoy ORCHESTRAL AND CHAMBER MUSIC from many eras and have an ear which appreciates both classical and modern compositional techniques. I have surrounded myself with the music of Vivaldi, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Alan Hovhaness, Alfred Schnittke, Luciano Berio, Philip Glass, Terry Riley, Harry Partch, Lou Harrison, Jon Leifs, Krzysztof Penderecki, Einojuhani Rautavaara, Kalevi Aho, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Iannis Xenakis, Toshiro Mayuzumi, and Takashi Yoshimatsu.
I also LOVE progressive rock, world music, and experimental jazz: Sun Ra, Don Cherry, Charles Mingus, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Jethro Tull, The Doors, The Beatles, The Residents, Astor Piazzola's tangos and Laurie Anderson's special brand of performance art and song writing. I also have a soft spot for 80's music and Leonard Cohen.
This list above is by no means complete, but it is representative of my core musical interests and influences. Needless to say, I am very thankful for a long history of inspiring art and music on this planet. We must keep pushing the boundaries of sound and sense! I believe a theme or refrain can have any number of interesting variations, each of which is capable of expressing a different layer of meaning and/or emotional tone. I hope that the music you find here takes you on a journey to another place!
I'm currently living in the deserts of Arizona where I spend most of my days composing music; writing stories, poems, and lyrics; engaging in prayerful meditation worship and contemplating the cosmos through the study of history, philosophy, and spirituality. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Creative Writing and Electronic Music from UC Santa Cruz, and I have recently composed music for video games and performance art shows--because everyone loves a good concert with music, costumes, and lights, right?
