A wonderful piece, Jeff. As others have mentioned, the intro here is truly fabulous. Another well-crafted journey, the segue into those popping beats was unexpected and yet fresh - you seem to be a master of the polystyle, which I love. | Resurrexit by Donatus | 2 years ago |
![]() Such a spritely and happy feeling. Like a processional. Like a dance. This does carry a filmic pace and classical sense in terms of development and resolution; and this track is evocatiove of film composers like Carter Burwell, Michael Nyman, even Philip Glass. I love the mimimalistic sense of pulsation and chord progressions here. Repetitive in the best sense of the word, with rich and wonderful harmonies, it certainly fits well in the contemporary classical vein. I'm glad I came across this UPLIFTING track this Sunday morning. Very nice work, Donatus! |

| String Quartet No. 1 by Unreasoning | 2 years ago |
| Yes, it's very quiet (at full volume it was very soft) - and also a bit short. Is this the entire quartet, or just the first movement? There are some nice harmonies and melodic runs in the violins, but this piece didn't move me nearly as much as your orchestral works. Still feels like a sketch to me. I think a better set of string patches would help a lot too - these kind of synth/midi strings usually leave a foul residue in my ears. Maybe it is a matter of rendering?? It feels like a nice start. I took a look over your score. You might consider adding some double- and triple-stops in the strings in order to add more substance to this composition? There is some good movement in this work. Keep on going....... |

| De Profundis by JoelGoffin | 2 years ago |
| Wonderful strings. Epic minimalism. Reminiscent of Philip Glass in the opening rounds with the 4-chord progressions and arpeggiations, and then it seems to take a more suspenseful set of chords in the second half, taking on a more filmic feeling to me. Nice percussion and pulsation throughout this. The brass adds a great touch in the finale. Cool piece! | |

| THE-Jungle-Book by OMNICELL | 2 years ago |
![]() It's never quite so simple with you... A humorous, haunting, and highly compelling piece of sound art and a clever quotation of children's music all rolled into one. It's all about the departures and surrounding textures here. I love those shimmering sustains, and the bizarre warp of chords you have chosen to group here. Your using fingerpaints to create a complex vision of childhood. A kaleidoscopic whirl of colors. Great pitchbends, and the "beat-box" rhythms create an effect that evokes something simpler than what's really going on here, and a compelling shift into the mental and the metaphysical, even self-referential spoken word refrains. One could almost imagine a whole tapestry of Disney songs undergoing this method. A successful and sublime deconstuction of the child's mind. An artificial sense of naivety. The synth work here is truly superb, OMNI, I loved the stylized shapes, textures, and timbres. A palace made of ornate blocks. Playful, yet substantial. ~Justin |

| Great song, guys! I really thought the lyrical intensity picked up and grabbed my interest around the section with the alien and the mime. Great verses, Daniel. Hopefully it comes across as constructive, but I thought the harp came across a bit heavy and that the lovely guitar lines could be brought forward in the mix. That electric organ delivers a delightful pulsation and strobing rhythm in this tune. This is a wonderful collaboration, gentlemen! | |

| For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her – Simon & Garfunkel by OMNICELL | 2 years ago |
![]() What a choice cover you have performed here, OMNI. I know and love the original from the dynamic Simon and Garfunkel. You have evoked a sultry, smokey, and sentimental lounge take on this classic tune. There's a lot of feeling in here. A passionate and poignant solo piano version. The final, climactic lift is really amazing. The way we are taken aback by the work of the Masters. I'm also familiar with your choice of album art here: Vermeer's "Girl with a Pearl Earing." It adds a sweet and innocent quality to this re-presentation of Emily. Nicely done! ~Justin |

| Boring in C Major for the String Quartet by PurePerversity | 3 years ago |
![]() A hymn to stale love with a funny title - a jab at tradition. Appropriately succinct. I'm really diggin' the pulse of the percussions and the rich, sprectral flourish of the strumming strings. The mantra-like vocal refrains were perfect for this sardonic lyric. Funny lyrics too. An ecstatic weave of voices creates a final lift near the end. This mix sounds lush and full-bodied to my ear. All the elements are in place here. It comes across to me as kind of Harry Partch meets the Beatles (but it's clearly Happy Indeed). All you need is Dear John. Carry on, my friends! ~Justin |
