It's now sitting on my desktop. Hopefully it will annoy me enough sitting there, that I'll do somehting with it eventually.

Have you given up on guitar?

The tune started promisingly but after the middle it started feeling dragged out.
Night of the Vampires (v,2) by KimonF 1 year ago
Clearly you have a much finer ear than I do.

Well none of my tunes is ever really perfect and I'd be a hypocrite if I blamed Audacity for that.
Night of the Vampires (v,2) by KimonF 1 year ago
Why, thank you! I think it does. smiley
After you brought it up I noticed too that the track was consistently late so I shifted it to the left (maybe even more than my ears are comfortable with) to get it on the beat. Then spent another hour and a half re-recording the lead until I got it without awkward pauses and missed notes.
All in all I'm quite happy with it now.
Night of the Vampires by KimonF 1 year ago
@pharmakeus: It may well indeed be that I accidentally shifted the track a bit. It didn't sound like that yesterday when I mixed it. Will re-check it. From listening it over ond over I probably lost sensitivity to errors.

@scott: Man you must be on drugs. This "solo" is some of my most sloppy playing and least inspired choice of notes/licks EVER, and that includes my first rookie recordings.
Night of the Vampires by KimonF 1 year ago
I know. The recorded part is quite half-***ed compared to the time I put in programming the midi. I've been out of practice for a long time and it shows.
Also it is hard to pick and palm mute when temporarily holding the slide in my right hand (bottleneck, can't really just throw it or drop it).

The tune was at risk of boring me and ending up shelved indefintely so I wrapped up in a bit of a hurry.
I may revisit it because I really like the backing layer.

Thanks for the listen!

Excellent production, beautiful tune! It makes me happily sad, if that even makes sense.

Nice man. I like the guitar work. Ties in well with the percussion. Can't hear the bass much and it is not just my laptop's speakers, headphones don't seem to help. Fix that and I'm happy.

Sending Me Out Again by Waltz 2 years ago
The completely left panning is a little uncomfortable.
Also there seems to be too much happening in terms of tone. I'm not sure if it is the recording quality, a muddy EQ or too much modulation.
But the music and what I think to be the effect fit the theme you are negotiating I think. Waiting for the final before judging.

RIP dollhouse. I haven't watched the second season yet.

Coastal Highway (backing) by KimonF 2 years ago
There are three repeats, around 45secs each. It can be used for a stand-alone take, or you can be part of a larger jam (if there is enough interest). Ofcourse if more people join for collective jam, I'd rather us not using each the entire length of the backing because the combined length would be unbearable.
Coastal Highway (backing) by KimonF 2 years ago
Listening back to it after a good break, this mix sounds horrible... lol I'm not sure if it is the levels (which I've reworked since) or the nature of the riffs that seem detached and need getting used to.
Rework by SiddP 2 years ago
Nice. We should have another one of those wah-tastic jams soon.
Regurgitation Jam by JTC 2 years ago
Then it is kinda pure luck that I did a version of the riff (well two, but the second strays far away) because I completely missed that requirement. It just happens to be how I play, starting with a harmony on the riff and then working my way away from it.

The mix is good. The clipping has mostly cleared.

What's all that story about what it was supposed to be and what it became? Where was I when all that were discussed? It explains the name though.

Power Trip by albumflaps 2 years ago
I'll be honest man. I like the fat growl you get from the guitars. But having two guitar tracks is tricky. I often find (this tune included) that the guitar melodies/riffs sound disconnected from each other and it really bugs me. They're minding their own business rather than building up to a common cause.
Matter of taste I guess. It's why jazz gives me nausea and why I can't solo over powerful but busy riffs.

Some interesting themes goign on in there. I actually liked the non-guitars better I think. The ending theme is pure win.

Music in a Dream (New Masterpiece) by JTC 2 years ago
It's interesting you know, it has a stark contrast. You don't force your singing, scream or all that kind of stuff. A very intense guitar lead tone alternating with a deep calm voice makes an interesting combo. It's like H.I.M. on shred-oids. Work it to your advantage man.

Sweet man! That's a real acoustic guitar, right? Not just an electric on clean? If it is electric that is one bloody hell of an excellent simulation.
My Jam on G major Heaven ballad by fminorpenta 2 years ago
I think you need to work a bit on your bends. Practice reaching a target pitch. Also work on your bend-release. That quick jerky bend motion you do combined with the randomness of the target pitch really kills any tune. It sounds like a boy in puberty, you know when their voice randomly switches pitch as they speak.
Bending is not about just pushing/pulling a string sideways. It is about targeting an intended specific pitch and having complete control of the transition throughout.

I'm not rating the concept because well, it's been done to death. I'm also not giving you 5 to everything because I decided to speak my mind rather than just pat on the back.

Pharmakeus has a good gritty dylan-y voice that suits the style indeed. Your guitar tone is spot on but you got too many "safe" notes defining your licks. They could use a little more tension from time to time.

Avant-guarde aboriginal music meets the american south, the far west and the Batican in a horror/thriller movie setting? smiley

It's awesomely absurd! It took me by surprise more than once.
But I'm partial to a good whacka rythm, so... And I love the sound you used for the slide part.

I should find me some random loops and do that too. Sounds like great fun.

Strawberry Jam by KimonF 2 years ago
hey, thanks for listening and commenting. Yes the end was abrupt. It wasn't how I planned to end but I dragged a few notes longer than I had planned (in order to get back on time without breaking up the recording into multiple sessions stitched together) so the backing ended sooner than I had planned. I liked the take however and decided to keep it anyway, rather than risk another take where something else would likely go wrong...

The dynamics of the guitar remind of something Bjork might sing. Except I understand guitar much better than I understand Bjork smiley . The tune reeks of melancholy, beautifully made. Great example of less-is-more.

Haha, I can't believe you kept the idea I used for a title for my part.

This is the first time I'm hearing what you and farlow did with it.
Sidd, I love the combo of guitar tone and bass tone that you chose.

The mix turned out well balanced in volumes.
Also I love the order in which the parts appear. It gives the tune a certain feeling of evolution in theme from simpler to more complex and from more traditional to more modern and heavier.

The opening part (is that sweeps?) had me uncertain as to what I was about to listen to but then it settles in. It's quite well done and heavy. Of course, I have no idea what the original is like so... Nice job. I'd blow my brains off if I had to sync 5 guitar tracks of myself.

I think the bass could be less up front.

I would have liked the funk to be on the guitar side of the mix. I like your tone and chops (taken out of of context), but it just rubs me wrong in this song.

Kinda. I don't play drums and I suck at programming them on sequencing software. Plus everything is done without a metronome, so even if I tried to sequence drums for it later, it would only highlight some dreadful timing.
