This is tender like a good steak that was properly beaten before it hit the grill!

What lyrics are you talking about? Are there lyrics in this?

In no way shape or form can I understand them. So no need for the disclaimer.

This rocks.
Random Dementia Solo 1 by Reapz 2 years ago
First and foremost, you have to get that loop set-up properly. The pause doesn't work. It's a very nice part, but the break ruins it. You have to shave more off the front or back and get it seamless.

Not sure why you went for the super delayed speed metal solo either. Doesn't really fit the delicate guitar part.

I would suggest trying to create a melody on the guitar. A theme of some sort would give it some sense.

Good luck!

Awesome to hear some electric mando on iComp, even if the lead part is a little flat.

Bass is too low.

I was skeptical at the beginning with the out of tune guitar, but you won me over with the backups!

Nice work, good interpretation.

Sounds like electric guitar strings on an acoustic. Am I right?

This is a great pop song, but that pitch correction thing is killing me. I would MUCH rather just hear the real vocal track. Even if it's out of key it would be better than this.

Really good song and it has tons of potential.

I like it, great bass playing. I'm usually filled with things to say about songs here on iComp, but for what this song is, you've nailed it on the head my man.

The guitar parts are ridiculous & perfectly cool, I really like them a lot.

Nice work.

nice! Well arranged and with a proper theme! Kind of a rarity in these parts!

You might try synching up the parts a little. The "Enhance Timing" thing in GB is pretty powerful and works very well.

Nice performances all around, good job!

It sounds good. It lacks a theme, but the sounds are good and the mix is spot on. Nice and light.

The digital distortion that happens on the guitar is....

all in all it's a nice instrumental. Good Job.

Nice tune! The electric guitars are great. They seem a little "noodley" at times and I feel like it detracts from the vocals. There are a lot of melodies happening when the piano is playing so rhythmically while the voice is going and the guitar is taking a long solo.

I like the song a lot but I think you could clean it up and get a much nicer finished product. The potential is absolutely there.

Good song, good musicians, good voice.

Nice work!

I like this song a lot! If you ever think about going in and remixing, I would suggest looking for a reverb for the voice that matches the environment the drums are soaked in. I think it's a great drum sound, but it seems a little outside of everything else.

anyway, the tune is solid, nice work!

SEARCHING (Featuring Kirsty) by Bampot 5 years ago

I'm shocked that no one commented on the fact that a big part of the melody is exactly like the Seal song "Crazy".

The vocals are great, mixed very well.

I really like the tune overall, but the sounds are bit "kitchy" for my taste. You might want to look into some of the Free drum loops available to icomposition members. If you're going to use a loop and and not alter it for the choruses, you should try to find some drums that don't sound too "computery".

Also I really good way to seperate a chorus from a verse using drum loops is by adding some cymbal hits going into, during & getting out of the chorus. Also I like to use things like tamborines playing 16ths in a chorus to help lift it up. don't forget the old saying "don't bore us, get to the chorus". It's supposed to rise above the rest of the song to open up and pop.

All things considered it s good tune, especially for iComp!

Good luck!

Peace

I like the idea, I wish I could understand the lyrics better though. It doesn't make sense to me to write cool words and then hide them by eating them. I think that there are some cool lyrics here and it's a shame that they're hidden.

Also the musical interlude parts are a little long.

When instrumental sections, between lyrics, run on for too long, I often find myself looking for the "next" button, but I have A.D.D soooo......

Obviously your bass performance was great so "performance" was the only catagory that I rated you 5 star. As for the rest of it I fealt like it could be cleaned up and brought to a point of cleaner execution.

I think that the concept is solid, but the arrangement lacks clarity.

I hope this isn't too honest of a comment for you, but I don't believe in giving comments like "I like the ahh and uhh's....funky cool track"
I just don't think that helps anyone.

Anyway....

all in all cool track, good luck on your future musical projects!

Peace,

Reflective: Longer and Better Sounding Version by maestro_skillz 5 years ago

Wow, well I really liked everything except the heavy metal violin solo. I think the guitars and other string parts were really great, but why the 80'd metal solo? It just doesn't make any sense to me.

First it sounds like a guitar. Ehhh.... If you're so sick at the violin I think that you should make it sound more like a violin. And you have to understand that I am an electric mandolin player. I use effects and at times my 5-string sounds like a guitar. I just think that on a song like this, if that solo was acoustic violin, well then that would be cool as hell.

Secondly, why not develop a theme, or a melody line? The song itself is really nice and is begging for a killer melody.

I gave it 5 stars on a few catagories and I rarely do that, so don't think that I think it's not good. I just think that you need to develop the idea more because it has some great potential.

Good Luck

I agree with everyone before who said, this song has great potential. Your guitar playing is totally fine, but the tone of that acoustic electric plugged in is a little .... strange. Also I would guess that the noise you are getting on this track is from the guitars preamp.

I can tell you from experience that the internmal mic's on the macs are fine for recording a decent acoutic guitar part. It would for sure be better than a direct sound from an elec acoustic!

For an example you can listen to my song MANDOLATINO

http://www.icompositions.com/music/song.php?sid=42655

That has 2 acoustic instruments on it and I think the tone is pretty nice. A little noisy because I only had the internal mic on my Powerbook at the time, but yeah, it's not bad at all!

Your voice is obviously great. Nice and Gritty.

Keep up the good work!

Cool stuff! I like the concept of this! Just so you know I RARELY give 5 stars....I reserve it for things that really blow my mind! Pretty rare thing here on iComp. But Anyway, you have a really cool thing going here with this tune. You like to layer a lot like me!

You should get a pop stopper for the "P's" in your lyrics. It will help with the....well the pop sound! I need one too, but they're not cheap here in Italy!

Anyway.......

I think the song is good, but I really dislike the sound of a plugged in acoustic guitar. Your built in Mic will sound WAY better than that. If you want to listen to my stuff 99% of the guitars are recorded with my internal mic on my Powerbook. Also your voice is distorting.

Oh yeah and play with the pan control. Everything is dead center..... it needs some space.

You have a good song that's the important thing.

The vocals are cool! I would say that the internal mic would sound better than the Acoustic plugged in. I just really don't like that sound recorded. You can hear my stuff, for a 99% of it I was only using the internal mic on my Powerbook. The song is cool though!

oh yeah, it's distorting a little too and you should experiment with the pan control to help create some more space in the mix!

Good job though. Sounds cool

Isn't Fair by Lbarringer 5 years ago
I want you guys to all know that on this track especially I LOVE the noisy vox track. As you will notice it is cutting in znd out to. I chopped it all to hell. It was conscious decision and as you can tell it gets better/worse closer to the end. I wanted it to sound like the voice was coming in on some crappy AM radio station or on a CB radio.

Also I really dislike the over dampened sound. I think the natural reverb of a room helps create a sonic environment that no electronic reverb could!

I love the comments don't get me wrong, I just fealt like I needed to let you all know where I was coming from with this idea!!

Thanks for all your comments!! Keep them coming!!

Always With Me, Always With You by waltwilcutts 5 years ago

Hmmm....

I like the backing tracks and think that they have potential. The lead guitar sound is a little too Heavy Metal for the type of song that it is but that is just my taste. You have written a lead melody part and that is great and I think needs to be developed more. Like you said you haven't played it in a while.

Even though there is that small melody part it still sounds like one long guitar solo. Especially when the song goes to the bridge/minor part and the lead guitar stays in major. I would definitely think that you would want to redo that section, it also might not be a bad idea to introduce a new sound or guitar tone at that point. A bridge section can easily get lost if the sounds are all the same when you get to it.

All in all you guys have a nice idea. Remember it's a simple thing, so don't try to over do it with the lead guitar, leave some space for it to breath!

Good luck!

Peace

Glory Of You by AdamCappaBand 5 years ago

Not bad at all. Have you ever thought about trying to sing it with a quiet voice? Kinda in the Pete Yorn style?

I just think that pushing the vocals on a song like this takes away from the melody and lyrics.

Also the drum sounds are.... well.... weak. 2 good overheads, one good large diaphram mic out in front of the kit and a sm57 or the Shure kick mic (who's numbers are escaping me right now) on the kick drum for some slap work REALLY well. You need more of a live roomy Zeplinish drum sound on a tune like this!

All in all it's a good demo!

I have to say that I am honestly surpirsed at the amount of positive feedback you have recieved on this song. I know nothing of your iComp history, but apparently you have a good following on here so kudos on that.

I would say that the "cheese rock" comment is right on the money. However I really think that the keyboard sound forces that opinion out of me. I would rather hear this produced like a Bon Jovi song, big Richie Sambora guitar sounds etc... But Bon Jovi from now not 20 years ago which is what this sounds like.

The Keys make me think "Hungry like the wolf" by Duran Duran.

I don't know guys, I am a proffesional musician and I know that you are "weekend warriors" of sorts, so I give you points for writing and recording music. That is F-ing great. However... This song...It's just so........cheesy.

I'm sorry but that is my honest opinion. However I am now off to hear some of your other songs to figure out why you guys have so many fans on here!! That does mean something!! I can't get anyone to listen to my songs!! Well..... just not as many as you! How do you do it?

Good luck!

Are those backup vocals or a delay? Either way it's confusing. The tune is there and that is what counts. The execution is a little weak though. I know it is a rehearsal, but I would recommend that you guys listen to eachother. The piano is doing the rythm part so I don't know if the Uke should be also, especially if they're not going to play the same rythm!
Some harmonies might also be a good idea instead of singing in unisone (sp?)

Like I said the tune is good and that is what counts. Just try to clarify the parts and I think you'll have a winner on your hands!

The good son by nexusone 5 years ago

Well I think that the "tune" is there and that is what counts. I don't know how well it was executed though. I always have a hard time listening to finger picked guitar with a solo on top of it. It always seem too busy to me. It needs a melody, but I'm not thinking lyrically, I would think a guitar part would be appropriate. Perhaps you were trying to do that already, but it was too busy and wasn't obvious enough. I always think that the more simple the melody the better.

Also..... obviously you played the same guitar on both tracks. Try EQing the lead guitar differently than the rythm guitar track. That will help the seperation of the 2 tracks.

Is it ok if I give you a piece of playing advice? Breath when you play!! You have the chops, but your playing is a little tense. You should be searching for the nice and easy flow especially on a tune like this one.

Keep up the good work man! You are surely on your way to being a great guitar player!

P.S. the high E on solo guitar is flat from the bends through the song. You might want to bring it down in the mix

Ok that's it sorry I babbled so much!!
