My name is Makena Monk and I’m a singer/songwriter. There’s no big philosophy behind my music. Basically it’s all done on a therapeutic level. Get rid of stuff inside of me that I feel need to get out. My songs do tend to be retrospective and/or introspective. Possibly due to the never ending journey within me. It’s a spider’s web and hard to get out of. A vicious circle. So far I found out that no matter how many vicious circles you break out of you always end up in another. I’m easily bored, easily depressed, easily happy and easily entertained. These juxtaposed emotions are a real struggle at times not only to me but also to the people around me. Is it Bordeline? Burn Out? ADHD? Bipolar? Or the result of a society that is more and more demanding? Manipulated food? Brainwashing Media? Humiliating Economics? Greed for Money, Power, Knowledge? I’m lost. I’ve always been lost and will probably be lost in the future too. I want to be left alone and I want to be the centre of the attention. I want to change the world but I can’t change my own. I want to be me. But who is me? My identity? It’s based on hundreds of people’s ideas on how to cope with this world. Too many ‘parents’ in my life who all meant good but added more and more chaos to my self being. I’m a product of many. My journey in life is linking all their knowledge to one source… My Heart! My figurative heart, my core. And all this I do via music…. As music was my escape since i was little. Footsteps approaching me? I heard a melody! highways full of passing cars? I heard a melody! Kettle in the kitchen boiling water? I heard a melody! Just one simple note like the doorbell started a melody in my head.
