Very inspiring. Love the acoustic guitar levels and Glassian ending.
Original Rags (1897) by georgeptingley 3 years ago
I like Rag Time music. I'm afraid the mechanics are bit over my head, I just know I like it. I use to have a neighbor who played it all the time on her old upright. She was in her nineties and was always ready to play. Anytime she ask me if I wanted to hear her play, I would always say yes. She was really good. This recording reminded me of sitting in her parlor and listening to her play Joplin. Thanks.

Nice recording. Don't keep them frets lonely!
Regina Olsen (Deep Thoughts) by groaninboy 3 years ago
I like this a lot. I wish the strings were louder. The vocals sound a little strange. Not unpleasant, just unusual.
Life's Stiles by mick66 3 years ago
I like the low key approach. If you decide to add more, an acoustic would sound really nice. I know what you mean about time. I hope find more of it.
Fire Tower ( rough) by Rusticalia 3 years ago
I like the mix so far. I was taken aback at the start, though. Maybe a measure of just the guitar before the cello starts. I also agree with pete, if you tweak the cello track in various places it will give it more of a live sound. Can't wait to here the banjo mixed in. Nice work.
Something in the Way She Moves by GoofyDawg 3 years ago
That was really nice. You have good recording technique and great vocal ability.
My Dancing Day Redux by mlpbadarak 3 years ago
That was very enjoyable!

How do you record? How many mics do you use?

I'm no producer, just an amateur musician, but I think it needs to sound louder and more "separated". That's why I was asking about the mics.
Greensleeves by mlpbadarak 3 years ago
Very nice. Please add more details. How are you doing this? Is this a live recording? It's sounding great so far, but the dynamics seem a bit jumpy. By that I mean the swells could be smoother.
Grove St Jam #9 by RadioRebelde 3 years ago
I dig it!

I think the recording level needs to be "hotter". I had to turn it up pretty loud in order to hear it.

Well that was just awesome. I never think of vocals when I do these GarageBand arrangements, and what you've done really surprises me. It adds dimension to the music. I think it sounds fantastic!

Thanks eagle_1, dirigent and you too, jeff. Boss, I take that as a compliment! James! The conspiracy is spread half way 'round the world by now. In my mind, I see it growing in the Himylayas, then taking shape in Europe, to New Jersey and beyond... Long live the Mondial Luddite Conspiracy! smiley

UPDATE: We took a break. We really needed the breather. Still need to varnish the floors. Now I know why people say, "Lord willing". Because, you just don't know what's gonna be done 'til it gets done. With that said, and if the creek don't rise, I'll post my setup pics in a couple of weeks.

Thank you all so much! I really appreciate it. For the last couple of days, I've been learning to use a floor sander and edger! Can you say machine marks? Talk about tricky work. I tried to find a how-to article, and all I could find were basic stories that concluded with "hire a pro". Nevertheless, it looks pretty good. Tomorrow I'll finish sanding and start coating the floor. Then, I'm DONE! I'll be posting in the setups!

Requiem for A Young Man by MasonOller 5 years ago
Thanks, James. And, you too, JD. I just saw a PBS special called Keeping Score, and what you said reminded of something the oboe player said. He said, the oboe was the emotional voice of the orchestra. I don't think I'll come back to this piece, but because of it, I think I have the confidence to try another longer classic work, this time using an oboe as a "vocalist". Thanks again.

That's really good, M. These mixes are even more surprising than the parts. There's a math equation in there sumwhere. smiley

Overall, I really like the composition. This is just my humble opinion, but where the vocals go falsetto, if you added a loud fuzzy guitar there, plus screamed the words, that would make it more intense. Towards the end, where you were adding some sutble effects, I really liked that, more of that would make it even more interesting. I'll have to come back to listen some more.

I think you're right, dd. Thankfully, not just tragedy. Creativity flows from the highs and wells up from the lows. Intensity begetting intensity.

Oh no! Not So-crates! Why not King Arthur? Or, Gandolf? Or, the one I get everytime I go someplace, "Hey, Jer-ry!"

Seriously, thank you very much for the compliment. Now, you got me guessing who... is it Matt Redman, Chris Tomlin, Mac Powell...

Thanks for listening!

I like the funky wah wah guitar intro. The first transition is surprisingly abrupt. It creates a sense of uncertainty which is correctly rewarded by the return of the first theme. The repeated collisions make for a very interesting listen. Nice work.

GRR Martin, the guy who wrote "The Sand Kings", wrote a sci-fi story about an astronaut lost beneath an ancient city on another planet haunted by alien ghosts. They might have been dancing to this music.
