I love your style Sir, so orginal, so fantastic.

I picture this being played on a big wide porch of a house with passersby stopping and pausing for a listen. More and more gather as they take in the lyrics and emotion of your performance. Love the simplicity of the piece, the uncomplicated rawness of it -- love your guitar work Gepo.

Great collab.

Love the beat, great bass "Bang Bang" really sets it up well. You use the bass quite well - it is your anchor.

That beat is terrific too - isn't it. Some super sounds here for sure. Could easily be movie music in a preparation scene, or even at credits roll after a super martial arts spectacular movie.

Well done.

@KCsGROOVE I totally agree Sir - uplifting, Music Is. Thanks glad you enjoyed it.

@JonCSebastian Yamaha voices are pretty realistic, especially if you're able to get the nuances of a particular instrument and how a musician would actually play it (e.g., not holding notes so long that he/she would pass out, and fingering techniques). I am working on it all the time... hopefully this translates well in the music. After all, these are all synth voices on a keyboard.

thanks again glad you enjoyed it.

@JonCSebastian
thank-you Sir, thanks - big sound and authentic (as close as we can get with synths) is what I was going for.

I've tried the VSTi inside Reason, well interesting, they seem flat to me, lack the depth. I would really like to get my hands on a Korg Oaysis or the new Korg Kronos - real streaming algorithms versus repeating samples, must be really expressive.

Thanks again, yep all done with synths.

I use horns a great deal, and I think it is more ensuring that the playing most likely matches how they would play. Song is good. The mix is bit off (meaning, the guitar leaps out center and sounds out of place - distracting the listener). What are you using for the instruments (e.g., brass)?

I like this a lot.

Mike

The composition and arrangement is delightful. The timbre of your voice is very pleasing.

About halfway through, I can hear soaring french horns... versus the brass ensemble..

Lovely composition, I really think it is polished and quite accomplished.

Smooth is Smooth (Version 4.0) by MikeHuntingford 4 months ago
@w1av thanks so very much for your kind words.

Yes, its true, the sounds are all generated from my various keyboards. The technology in these modern synths is amazing. I have had/do have keyboards from Yamaha, Korg, Roland, Kurzweil, and even Casio. I have some recommendations:

Chose Yamaha for: Realistic acoustic pianos, strings, flutes, saxophones, acoustic guitars

Chose Korg for: Phat analog synths, deep basses, out-of-this-world terrifically big spatial pads, and their new M2 Piano is awesome too.

Roland for: Well, I sold my Rolands (JV90 and Juno-G) as I thought the sound was rather thin -- in my opinion -- avoid these keys

Kurzweil for: Just about anything (esp. pianos, eps, and organs), the sounds are beautiful, but their equipment is pricey, and you can get a lot of Yamaha or Korg for the price of Kurzeil.

Casio for: Well, not for the sounds, I use a CP200 (88-key hammer action) as a controller for my Yamaha and Korg (via Midi)keyboards when I am playing acoustic pianos or EPs.

Here is a terrific buy right now - its the new Yamaha MOX. It has all the sounds of the much more expensive flagship MOTIF XS series. Its under $1000 and packs a big punch. Every Yamaha sound you've heard on my tracks, this keyboard has. Here's the link to it: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Yamaha-MOX6-61-Key-Semi-Weighted-Music-Production-Synthesizer-Workstation-106717507-i1907132.gc

Sir Jams-A-Lot by MikeHuntingford 4 months ago
@w1av - thanks for listening and commenting yet again (I must return the favor). Once again, I forgot about this piece... I posted it up two years ago. I am glad you think they are pretty.

I started music composition and playing around mid-2007. I didn't have any formal training, and I play entirely by ear as I cannot read music. I have tried to answer people's questions about how I do it and how I come up with these types of tunes. I listened to a great deal of contemporary jazz, RnB, and also acts like Chicago, Earth, Wind, and Fire, etc....

Like you, I multi-track my songs, building upon one track after another, thinking of what it is lacking and adding... very experimental... sometimes, like the guitar track in this on is completely one shot... I hit record and put it in... I typically start sitting at the keys, just playing around chording, and when something sounds nice, I next decide what beats/rhythm to use, then I start adding, bass, pads, choirs, leads for melodies and counter melodies, and keep going until it is fleshed out.

Hope that answers your question.

Thanks again,

Mike
Funkenstein by MikeHuntingford 4 months ago
@w1av... thanks for listening to this tune... its been a long while since I created it... listening to it now... I am quite pleased at how it turned out. As I remember, was really trying to make my brass works sound authentic to the genre... and of course the clav...

If you listen to my a lot of my songs, you will hear that I use a great number of similar instrument sounds... cause I think they sound almost like the real thing... especially if you stay true how a real player would play them... which is what I strive to do.

Thanks for listening and reminding me about this older piece of mine.

An Exploration of Korg M3 Combi by MikeHuntingford 4 months ago
@w1av - thanks again. The Korg is supplying the main ep, percussion, and arps. The Yamaha keys are providing, the other ep, the flute, the acoustic piano, the acoustic guitar, and the sax, and also the synth. They blend nicely - IMHO. The construct of this song is the Korg -- its truly an inspirational tool, only had it a little while -- hope to learn more about it and do more with it.

@sprkymrt - thanks. Yes I love this new toy. Hopefully will create more listenable music soon.

Woman Times Flute by JonCSebastian 4 months ago

Why is this piece perfect to my ears and mind?

Its all about the soul of the music - and this piece has plenty of soul - we can hear the mournful emotions you solicit through the magnificant flutes playing. The violas played / plucked are somber bits of serious/darkness. The choirs are the echos of witnesses gone by. The tambereen adds the sense of edge and slightly out-of-placeness to keep you not totally tranquil so as to experience the underlayed conflict - tenderly exchanged throughout the entire compositon.

Technically, it was mixed masterfully -- very jealous of your skill here.

Best listening experience I've had in a long time.

Thanks, you are a skilled master composer/musician.

This is traveling music - got to download / ps thanks for the DL.

What are you using for these wonderful voices? Wow, what a clean and widely dispersed sound you have -- I have never used GarageBand, maybe I should. Are the voices VSTs?
