MC Fossil & The Trilobites by Trilobite2 8 days ago
isn't it intense? that moment before you post a track???

"is it good enough?"... "what if no one likes it?"... "what if everyone thinks it sucks?"...

the cool place about icomp... is that everyone's a musician themselves... so everyone kinda knows that feeling... i find it's more sensitive to your feelings, in that respect... (more so than say, youtube or itunes or whatever.)

sooo... i'd also like to thank pm for this awesome place online... soooo glad i found it.

but also... i'm happy people here feel comfortable to post their music, y'know?

anyways... this song kinda has an early def jam quality about it... trilo... you mentioned being inspired by the beastie boys... i agree to some extent... i think this has a very rick rubin (circa mid 80s) vibe... the drums... the rock/rap fusion.

but i digress... this is just a fun lil ditty, eh?

i kinda like the "icomp" rally chant at the end.... made me giggle.

SMOKEY NIGHT by Barretok 14 days ago
funky guitars... reverb... and tales of infidelity... sounds like a mix to me!

the vocal adlibs are fantastic on this... they're one of my fave aspects of this piece.

and i kinda dig that you're experimenting with your vocal recording techniques... even though it's easy and comfortable to record the same way each time, i think it's good to change things up... by recording things differently here & there... that way you don't get stuck in a certain frame of mind, or certain recording process (or method), just because it's comfortable... it takes more time, effort, and trial & error to keep switching things up... so kudos.

always appreciate your artistry.

also... i kinda love the woodblocks!

i like the sonic tapestry behind your vox.

kinda western... with some eastern influence. east meets west?

it would seem that the two different & opposing sounds should be conflicting. but they're actually TOTALLY complimentary. it seems like it's almost a metaphor for the "she's made out of blue, i'm made out of green" lyrics. it's like the music compliments the poetry.

anyways. i enjoyed this.

Selah ( with Violin) by Rusticalia 1 month ago
i like the addition of the violin part... (although, it's a little prominent in the mix... but not overly so...)

it sounds good as a whole... and i think it would be dope if you could get a REAL cello & a REAL violin on the album version... you know... just to make it 100% organic or whatever.

i really do think the parts fit nicely together & the song is very well-arranged... i just feel that something so accoustic & simple in its nature, would benefit from live performances on actual instruments for ALL the parts... y'know?

(maybe i'm just being picky... midi instruments sound pretty darn realistic these days... but there IS an art to playing each individual instrument... it takes dedication & practice to learn to play an instrument... and each individual instrument comes with its own unique set of challenges... i think that's the reason why i'd love to hear all the parts played on actual instruments.)

but truly... well-arranged... each part is complimentary & it sounds good.

it's interesting, how we dig up the past... trying to figure out where we come from, where we're at, and where we're going... it's also interesting that things that have long since left this earth... leave us clues millions of years after their time here.

and we try to put together all the pieces of the puzzle.

very atmospheric piece, bec... i almost felt like i was walking through the wilderness... some uncharted territory that i was gingerly exploring... almost timidly... so as not to upset the delicate balance of nature... excited & astounded by the pristine, untouched beauty of it all. great lil choice for an acapella, i must say... (but i do have to say that i miss the piano riff from the original version)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nq77_nN9_g4

i think you applied some interesting loops into your mix too... the arrangement was fresh & kept my attention... (at times the vox got a tiny bit out of sync with the soundbed, but it was fairly minimal)

there's something about the over-all sound quality that could be "brighter" or something... but i think that perhaps it was an intentional production decision... (and i'm no professional engineer or producer... so really, i'm in no position to critique... y'know?)

i really think the choice of acapella is stellar, and i like your arrangement of the loops too!

like a voyage to the dark corners of the mind.

i can feel the intense struggle within the music. the lows. the hiiiiiighs. the even-lowers... it reverberates in my soul.

"i am not the same"... indeed. (but it's sooo true that we are each on our own individual life path... learning our own lessons... at our own pace... and no one is quite the same.)

Try - Lost Inspiration by jack1972 2 months ago
"the blank pages show me my deserted life"... deep.

i can dig the frustration in this piece... sooo many times i've lost inspiration... it's infuriating.

but then when you think all inspiration is gone... out comes some great lyrics & chugging bassline & aggro guitar riff... and some kick-*** drumming... and voila... a song.

i think the arrangement of the loops is very well-done.

great first foray into GB... some of my fave loops are in this little song doodle.

i just LOVE listening to people's first songs... it shows just how creative some people can be w/out ANY knowledge of software programs/instruments/music/etc... and it's always cool to see the progression of each artist... from their first piece... to their latest... y'know?

Aggroman! by offbalance 2 months ago
i'm not into WoW... but i'm assuming that aggroman is some kind of whirling creature that spins around... and you must KILL him?

(i'm just guessing...) smiley

this is just a fun little parody... (and i too love the ending!)

What the Hell? by offbalance 2 months ago
trippy vocal effects... swirly and ethereal...

i love the lyrics on this...

"i don't wanna be more than human... but i will for you"

"people coming up to me... selling me their god"

...what the hell?!

i agree with the others... nice tribute. i dig the organ & that sliding pitch on the sustained bass notes in the guitar... dope.

Dee - Is spaced out. by Dee1962z 2 months ago
quirky little progressive tune... kinda bleep-y and bloop-y... and fun. (in places i'm kinda reminded of kraftwerk's "popcorn" smiley

i think your arrangement of the loops is cohesive & well-executed.

i dig the chuggy little beat & bassline.

this is dope... quirky beat... and the lyrical flow is off the hook... fast-paced delivery that fits very well with the beat.

i like this... it's live.

skillz.

i like the re-played take on the wendy rene sample... cute... with the echo-o-o-o... smiley

true... this sample was kinda cornered by rza on 36 chambers (just cause tearz is such a familiar & classic wu-tang joint)... but the fact that you re-played it & added effects... kinda breathes new life into it, y'know?

anyways, i just love that wendy rene joint... so for me personally, it really doesn't matter how many times i hear that riff... it's always dope.

and you're right... i'm completely hypnotized. (purrrfectly repetitive for a freestyle...)
