Biography
WARNING: 99% of my mixes were done on headphones only.
Mungo is a music project by a guy named Bill in Virginia. I like to experiment and wish to inspire musicians to create more interesting music. My music-sharing philosophy is to provide my works-in-progress because I may get hit by a bus tomorrow.
Many of these are sketches that serve as memories of motifs, instrument juxtapositions, textures and rhythms I might want to incorporate/refine into more structured pieces. After I update these, I usually leave the earlier versions available to keep comments and allow others the opportunity to listen to the evolution of my musical ideas and read previous listeners' comments. Also, in the case of potential collaborations, less contribution from me in a sketch leaves more space for contribution from collaborators.
My instrument-playing skills are rudimentary: I consider myself more of a sound artist than a performer. Much of my music is abstract, ambient, psychedelic, experimental. I am fond of drones, repetition and distortion.
My listening interests are more varied and include pop, soul, doo wop, hip hop, jazz, blues, folk, funk, electronica, contemporary classical, psychedelic, art rock, post rock, electroacoustic, drone metal, noise, ambient, dub, reggae, punk, new wave, no wave, soundtracks, qawwali, raga, Celtic, fado, gamelan, samba, and other music from around the world.
I prefer instrumentals. More often than not when I hear a singing voice, I don't bother to try to understand the lyrics. I hear the voice more as an instrument than as a conveyer of semantics.
