Yes Andre. That's why I called it "Pinkish". Animals was and is very influential for me. Good ear for picking up on that!

Thanks guys. I actually wrote it on the acoustic, but after putting together the full version I've come to enjoy both, depending on the mood.

Thanks for your comments.

Yer Cheatin' Heart by Narrowgate 1 year ago
Thanks art! I almost renamed it, but now I'm used to it. It will always be countrified to me! To be honest, I really despise country, at least what has become "Redneck Rock" today. It's not like it used to be in the good ole days of Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash!
Yer Cheatin' Heart by Narrowgate 1 year ago
The title is a joke. This couldn't be further from country.
Enya Lessons, 5˘ by Narrowgate 1 year ago
Cool. I'm glad you guys like this. For the record, I do have a lot of respect for her music, though I couldn't hear it all the time. This is not quite my style though, so I don't expect any more will come of this.

Thanks for your comments people!

Enya Lessons, 5˘ by Narrowgate 1 year ago
Thanks George. You're welcome to it if you want it. I just threw some quick chords together in her style, enough to post it here. The whole thing was created and uploaded in less than 5 minutes.

And I didn't mean anything by the Hot Dog comment. I just meant that Enya would eat things like Hummus and Grape Leaves, never a Hot Dog. That's more like Phil Collins, Elton John stuff!

Well done, man.

Dude, don't listen to Aircraft. All he does is leave a trail of destruction , never a positive comment. Nitpicky, and he doesn't post his own music.

Your music is better than that!

Ok, I'm leaving another comment. I've listened to this thing about 20 times since I downloaded it. Man, this is IT! Not a note out of place. Dynamics are there. Playing is tight. Production is pristine. Makes you wonder what all that garbage is on the radio when there's stuff like this to be heard.

Congrats on a job well done. One of the best songs I've heard here.

Ah, a night driving song! A nice pulse. It took me a couple times to find the '7', it's in groups of 3 and each one is a little different. That's good. My only suggestion is you should end it, even if just a fade.

I liked this very much jobu.

Good heavens, this is so well produced. I thinks it's really ok, even good sometimes, not to follow "Nashville" techniques. When you break out of that mold what you get often times is Dynamics. Ooo, don't get me started on all that.

Thanks Ed.

Man, I like this! I was just getting interested and it ended! Personally, I like the vocals. If you finish the Hi-Fi I'd leave the vocals alone. The Beatles never sounded very hi-fi, and I think that's what made them. Those recordings would never be the same if redone.

Great job Matt!

And you call ME a bass player? Wow, it has such great tone! Very nice indeed.
And don't let "lovinit" bum you out. He's the guy who registers with no songs, and hangs about for 10 minutes ruining ratings until he gets bored, then leaves.

Really well done my friend...

Thank you Scotty! The "airy" trumpet sounds come from 2 things: 1) Not playing much since college, and 2) A "hat" mute. Really tones things down. I tried to play something in a Mark Isham or Kenny Wheeler influence.

...and the Chris Squire reference has me just blinking in bewildering amazement. Thank you!

Thanks naz! I did cheat a little, I used some half-tones in there occasionally. I think it's nearly impossible to be absolute with a whole-tone scale, it just feels creepy, like eating a Garlic pie (no offense trekkies, lol!)

So much on this site starts to sound the same, you hear a lot of the same loops and patches and it can become rather tedious to listen objectively to one's art. But I found this one quite refreshing! Thanks for sharing.

I hear an 80s sound, with hints of Eddie Jobson and Tony Banks. Are you using any hardware synths, or just soft?

A really good 'atmosphere' on this one! Not intimidating, but not necessarily 'happy' either.

I've heard a lot of stuff here at iC and I'll offer an A for effort to anyone who posts their music, but then there are those here who really GET IT. Those who really know what they're doing. HP is one of these few, and I am completely humbled that you would give *me* glowing reviews on my music! This one is one of my favs. Very Euro (and good for rattling other cars at stop lights!).

Thanks and keep up the goods Bro!
