Right Through You (Alanis Morissette Cover) [Demo] by dmurawski 1 month ago
Greetings... I quite agree with genie's assessment of your situation, since, more or less, it's a situation I'm in too. So I went looking for some online resources and quickly came upon the following Wikipedia article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vocal_pedagogy which sets a decently comprehensive framework around what 'working on one's voice' actually entails... Amongst several other reasonable suggestions, the one I get from it is to first find my comfortable range, and once done, practice refining and expanding that range to encompass my goals, provided I've set reasonable ones for myself.

That said, if you were to ask me to record some basic piano scales for some Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti Do practice, I'd gladly oblige.

Cheers,

Funky Deck The Halls, Recording #2 by Poseidon 2 months ago
Canadians don't have another major holiday til christmas... plus I scored some matching patch cables for under 2 bucks a piece... PLUS... the old recordings sounded fine on this cruddy TV set, but horrible at work. Just wouldn't do...

Other than the keyboard's vocoder, I don't think I'd omitted any feature in this rather over-the-top massacre of Mozart's famous piece.... My 10-year old Yamaha PSR-2000 is showing its age.

Are you talking about Orbit's Ardagio (conveniently at 160 bpm), or Adagio %u2014 slow and stately (literally, "at ease" smiley (66%u201376 bpm)?
Nevtune Freestyle MP3 by Poseidon 1 year ago
It's a fairly old piece, that I discovered wasn't playing on IE in the form I'd originally uploaded it as, so I reposted. I don't think there was much I said about the original... I sat down at the clavinova, and hit the record button, and played until I forgot I was being recorded. after exporting it to GB, and trimming about half the bars (though deletions were the only mods I made to it, and those were mostly from re-starts and thematic dead-ends) I was left with this. I recently swapped out my mixer and mic with my PSR-2000 that had been residing at my friend's place, and I have my clavinova midi-cabled to the psr, which makes for some interesting effects... interesting enough that I might do another rambling medley of sorts in the not too far future.
Lake Merritt at Night by carlajpatterson 2 years ago
While waiting for a friend's friend, I'd often parked on the shore of Lake Merritt and watched the show proceed. I was never alone in the car (and I usually had 'em tinted very black anyhow) so I was never solicited.

An equivalent place in Halifax is Citadel Hill; In Moncton, St. George St. Park, in Boston, the 'Fens', in San Francisco, Colllingwood Park. Every place that's anyplace has 'em...

The 'merman' depictions of Poseidon are usually mis-identified images of Triton, one of Poseidon's most benevolent and helpful immortal offspring. When Triton blew on his conche shell as herald to his father's procession, the sea-waters calmed themselves, while the nearby sea creatures gathered to watch their Lord pass by on his sea chariot that Athena made for him after the two reconciled.

While it must be noted that Poseidon, like the rest of his immortal family, was often brutal and monstrous in his actions, he was also the least vengeful of the gods, and exceedingly fair, allowing most of his punishments and curses, usually in the form of sea-monsters sent to ravish a city, to be disarmed by heros before any harm was done. When his character's motives and actions from the myths are viewed collectively, it can be seen that the Sable-haired one was always on the lookout for the well-being and safety of his nephews and nieces, and was a major peacekeeping force amongst the Olympians, the majority of them indebted to Zeus' right-hand man in one way or another. For all the surliness the eldest brother publicly displayed towards the youngest child of Kronos Zeus, Poseidon would always personally be on hand in the Olympian stables to open the gates for his mighty brother, and personally took care of Zeus' majestic steeds. Though having a temper at least as great as the other Olympians, even in the midst of one of his blood-boiling rages, a wise appeal to his sense of reason would invariably quell the storm within. (Ref: illiad, Iris bades Poseidon to withdraw from Trojan War per Zeus' orders.)

I enjoyed the ethereal piece quite a bit, and didn't fail to appreciate the bubbles. smiley

THE PROZAC-MACHINE (brave new world part 1) by dr_elvis01 2 years ago
A terrific summation of my personal darkness that while I don't repress, try not to express often, lest I need Prozac... again... which isn't nearly as bad as Paxil or Zoloft.

Near the end, sounds very much like native american (of which I am) chanting.

I do not wish to see this world hobble along in its current form, and from the looks of all the general systemic failures and run-away conditions in both natural and man-made systems, I don't think it will, either.

Heart & Soul, Extra Large by Poseidon 2 years ago
the last two freestyles have started with me trying to play with some loops, GB giving me grief, and finally, I just get fed up and take it out on the 'ivories'.

It's not as smooth as I'd like, but if I star trying to edit or quantize, I'll just never get anything up.

GB isn't providing enough polyphony for the trills, so I think I'm going to have to go back to acoustic recording.

Very fresh; sticks to a theme though smoothly progresses, so as not to sound repetitive, yet stays true to the electronica genre without going new-age freestyle.

Or in other words, I like whatever it is you do; keep it up. smiley

I like the mellow sound; Perhaps the organ is drowning out the guitar a bit, perhaps it's intentional. Still, a nice mellow track.

More about JC by Poseidon 2 years ago
Early on New Years day, 2005, everything in the ESV Rev3:7-13 happened to me, exactly as is written. Since my initals are N.E.W. it was especially confusing. It was a weird night as it was, let alone to read about it in the bible a week later

However, if you consider for a moment which angel that group would bow down to, and JC's kind words and wise advice to that angel, which turned my heart, and my destiny in a much more exciting direction...

I think it's hilarious that all evil has been pointed in my direction for service, which they aren't going to get much of.

My prayer is a sincere "Thank you". I can't see the point of boring beings as bright and intelligent as God or his Son with standard prayers, unless I'm really in trouble... Also, I switched around the bit at the bottom.. I ask that evil be delivered away from me. You might try the same, and see the difference. Don't worry about upsetting anyone; If I were to tell you to do something offensive, I get in trouble, not they who were following my advice.

Just to be clear, my personal relationship with Jesus is Uncle. I'm considerably older than the Sons of God.

Take care,

It doesn't sound like escapism, it sounds like a gameplan.

The vocals, especially the higher notes, drown you out, and you could probably remaster with them at 60-75%.

Organic Organist (Tune to separate Canadians from a crowd) by Poseidon 2 years ago
I had thought I recorded this while in audio chat with Trilobite, but our first of two skype chats happened on Jan 9th, and I have no iChats around that time that day, so it looks like I wasn't actually on 'the phone' with someone while also recording that, at least, not with whom I thought I'd been.

So, no, I guess I wasn't really on the phone. However, if ever you'd like to hear me play something similarly cheesy live, see me in chat. Recording myself gives me as much if not more performance anxiety as having an actual listener.
Smash by Nightterrors 2 years ago
The tempo and change-ups improved greatly as the song progressed, likely as you got comfortable with being recorded. At the end of the song, if you were to keep the beat and flow going and sing the first part, or even the whole song over, chop it up, choose the performances you like best, and re-splice, you might be pleased with the outcome.

In short, to me, the last parts of the arrangement seemed far above the first parts, which seemed a bit awkward. With me, that'd be recording nerves, or being undecided if I was just winging something.

A clip of my best attempt at Barry White's ode to Janus by Poseidon 3 years ago
Both Barry White & Tiny Tim are so outside of my natural affinity to sing along to, that no, I had no particular feelings for either. The 3rd piece that I was going to post, and refrained, was one I thought I had better grasp of; these last two were chat room solicitations for a song, ANY song, for me to sing. When several minutes of silence passed, I chided the lurkers with "C'mon, you can't pass up such an open invitation for embarrassment!" and Tiny Tim was picked. To my ear, I found I could miimic his voice rather well; I had no such misconception about Barry White, who was suggested as to prove I had testosterone. I was going to follow it up with Michael Buble's Alwys on my Mind, dedicated to my hair, but so far, my recordings have been unexpectedly awful.

I'm partial to any classical piece set to heavy metal (say, like the trans-siberian orchestra), so this was rather cool.

I have not come across the god Shalaah, but I wouldn't find this new-to-me myth difficult to incorporate into my proposed scheme of a tidy ending.

My spirit was ill at one point; it ails no longer.

Excellent fusion of two classical pieces.

They fit together so cleanly, that perhaps they were derivative of each other to begin with...
