I love this.... and it is very noteworthy.... you've really given this a subtle dynamic with your production and guitar chops... and this writing is as good as it gets... very mature... your sister has obviously done this before.. there aren't many songs that arrive around here that make me take notice... there are moments in this song when the emotion gets driven right into the heart of the listener..

you're right Pete... I love it... you actually sound like Paul Simon to here... I don't have the headphones on... just my laptop speakers... but if I didn't know better.. I'd have thought this is from his new CD... it is your light conversational delivery that reminds me of him....

I've spent way to little time here as of late... I forgot how well you sing... I'm sure I must have said it before... but you don't just sing the right notes... you scratch your way down to all of the right nuance and emotion... you've taken the true sadness of the ultimate parting and let it shine somehow...

excellent work... just ecxellent

absolutely great... everything that I look for and love in an acoustic vocal offering... it doesn't hurt that the song has always stirred me... one of my very favs... I listened twice... I was singing harmonies all the way through... the guitar is masterfully supportive... and shines in the moments where it needs to... the vocal is really perfect...

you listen... with more than just your ears... but you know your intrument well enough to play lyricly... you don't use the opportunity to "Solo" as a platform to show us the "Licks" that you know... who cares... instead... you tell the story... the chops are there when you need them... again.... who cares... everything is subserviant to the stroy...

Hi Phil

I hope all is well... this is haunting and heartfelt... I sat and sang to it starting about halfway through... some works just evoke melody and lyric.. you've tapped into something special here... i saw an electronic version, and I hesitate to even listen to it, because I don't want to hear this technofied...

One of the reasons that I didn't follow my dreams... I often dream that I'm in church, and I look down only to find I'm in my underware... so I decided to settle here.... pretty happy and fully clothed

enough about me... I'm trolling through your material this morning.... and you have such consistancy in your catalogue... Dave your a pro.... and with your musical acumen, you would prol sound great on a casstte recorder.... but Logic is the tool for you... Logic is also where I settled

Dave Dave. I don't know if its an illusion... but the whole package here gives me the impression that you have a considerable live career under your belt... all the string work, guitars and mandolin are produced perfectly... I love the texture of the mandolin in there... and the 6/8 time signiture supports that story teller vibe... great feel

but the thing that puts this over the top is the vocal... passionate and believable... before the 1st chorus, you've convinced me and drawn me in... when a vocal is this excellent you could wrap it in a mediocre production and nobody would complain... but again this is the whole package...

you really know how to deliver

thanx; Scott
I remember Jaco by MusicLeft 2 years ago
very Jaco-esque.. you nailed it... the feel of his attack and phrasing... I'm a big Jaco fan!!... my oldest son plays Teen Town with such elegance... I just love watching him... and one of my top 5 songs of all time "A Remark You Made" Jaco made that happen...

what's your signal chain when you record your bass (sounds direct).... I generally don't put reverb on bass, but when your going for that Jaco sound... it doesn't hurt to wet it down a bit
Long Distance Runaround (Yes Cover) by tonestones 2 years ago
when we were in college I was just getting profitient on guitar... this is one of the 2 songs that I learned bass on... the other was that Stanley Clark tune that I used to watch you play... the first thing I noticed on this was how you adhered to Brufords playing... it posed one of the biggest problems in doing "Trooper"... nice job... funny how singing this an octive lower changes the climate of the song... less urgency and lays it back...

you're such an impressive musician Steve... I'm still sifting through your father son stuff... I get around to leaving notes when I come up for air

One of the first things I listen to in a player is the ability to pace your way through something.. imature players almost always rush through and miss the opportunity to milk every moment of it's full emotional content... your patience and tender touch with this are most seasoned and skilled...

the answer to your question is yes... have at it... no need to show me... i can already see what you are capable of

Amazing Jesse...
I had never writen a song until was well into my late 20's... you have a wonderful head start... and you seem to be very intuitive about how to craft images to get your thoughts across.. recording is tricky and it's been a long learning process that we're all still in the middle of, reguardless of our age... the more you are familiar with your instruments, both guitar and voice... the more natural recording will become..

keep up the good work

there are some places we scarcly dare to go because the ground is hallowed... I know it's just a song... but what a song... you've handled this so well... reverent and with proper care... but the pasion in vocal is what puts it over the top for me... funny... firing on all cylinders... there are several things that make this work for me... the lyric and melody are classic pop... completely in the groove... in the hay day you'd be signing a deal... but a great tune never stands without a vocal... stylized and passionate without pretense... again classic pop... perfect... the whole production is breezy and light... but the icing is the trumpet... take this song and put a guitar solo in there and suddenly it's just another song, unless the guitar player REALLY has something to say... but that trumpet completes this song in spades

hello out there... I have two ultimate favorites on icomp... your one of them... you have such a consistant vision and delivery... sometimes I think I'm giving you credit for something that is out of your control.. in that you've just found a way to connect with a unique inner voice that is intuitive and guides you to some incredible material... that, coupled with your vocal arrangments and the uke... puts you in a class with NO ONE...

any way you sure make this look easy, even if it seems like a lot of work from your perspective...

John 19 by MessengerBoy 4 years ago
One of the things that convinced me to turn and walk in faith, was observing the transformation in the disciples... going from bumbling, dull, and cowardice... to standing in the town centers, and being completely effective... and all but one died for this life-changing thing that they all must have wittnessed... If they had fabricated this "story" they certainly wouldn't have laid down their lives for it... this had a huge effect on me... I owe them big time when I get home...

this would work well as a soundtrack for those extreme moments of truth

you seem to have an intuitive understanding about this craft

I have revisited several times... I'm more astounded the more I catch all of your nuance... this is one of the strongest vocal performances I've heard on icomp... the vocal on this is hauntingly perfect... the restrained but near the surface emotion.. makes me fear the story is true, and hope that it's more of an acting piece... this is shocking in exactly the way it should be... nothing maudlin or cheesy... but raw emotion that is painted with various shades of stark reality
