oh it's not all in one. hehe it's each separately recorded. each player listen to the first track and built on it. which is why the bass follows the lead on some parts. Paul's part was last and he was listening to the whole and played along with what he heard. all the guitars are me smiley

^ that's a frikking book d00d that's totally un-wizard ^

***off site question*** the second phrase of the "I Might save Ya/your Village. I might burn it/em all dead. I don't deal in Lies, I deal in Lead, crunch/70's metal chorus " So Why would Roland the Last Gunslinger take the time chasing Walter/the original MiB to burn down a whole a village and burn everyone of the in the communal pile before he leaves? Someone named it Tull, turned a few corpses into zombies, corrupted a few others.. some just on the own stupidity.. Everyone of Tull's townsfolk, save a few surviving women/children,but say least 95 percent of them died because of, whatever it was that was the catalyst, in most cases this cause judged/murdered themselves out of stupidity or over confidence on home turf and/or Ego/Id. Most of them died by the Hand of the Murder/Judgement caller/Hand/Fist of God that was Roland son of Steven, wielding the revolvers or Arthur Eld handed down generation to generation fathers to sons, actions culminated by being there at that moment to bring forth fire and speedy brimstone-like lead drops moving at nearly twice the speed of sound. Roland Deschain, in this case, merely is/was/will yet act/acting/acted/will act in and doing everything he could in the proper and just way of "keeping himself alive." Self Protection... in any court the logical I killed him because he was trying to kill me, but I got em defense works. so having a well crafted, written and balanced song about a character from one of the best book/series from one the best/greatest writers of our times? the Thought, I got to say is pretty frikkin' wizard to me. So long response/explanation tender, and updated... back to your regularly scheduled iComp visit.
Ain't No Hero (Gunslinger Rides Again) mix 1 by Surak 8 months ago
main reason I redid as oppossed to remixing which it is.. was to get a take on why do this kind of track.. have something intriguing to sing.... originally was a southern rock song talking about a character in a story... so my reason in changing them to this.... the character in the story wouldn't say don't read this to your kids, this isn't a storybook hero, the character doesn't even realize it's a character, the role of the story is just to provide a limited view into the window of his/her life.. in fact it is a storybook character...good/evil is a matter of perspective... OB1"Annakin I thought You knew the Sith were Evil?!" Darth Vader "From my point of view you and the Jedi are Evil!" OB1 the I have fail you annakin and for tht I am so sorry (cue John Williams Battle of the Heroes)
So it then becomes what the characters. Simply I think Roland would say he deals not in lies, but in ultimate simple truths, like but the lead of bullets being left and funerary business calls needed when he leaves a village.. These leaders and women survivors of the story folk are probably counting how many dead bodies, some dying due to their own attempts at killing the character, others by committing acts of aggression/violation in the area of, some suicides in the same manner as kids/ignorant folks playing with/aiming a gun at a police officer, and mostly probably deaths due to stupidity. But since in the world of the last lone goneslinger.... the's no CSI:MidWorld that's gonna show in 1 hour and 19 minutes and tell you with CGI graphics how this or that person/persons died. Just a corpse.. once human.. now a piece of forgotton trash amongst a dying world or worlds of folk.

I introduce those not reading about Stephen King's "Dark Tower" to "The Gunslinger" Roland Deschain of Gilead, Survivor, Last Son of the house of Author Eld, bearer of twin guns which are handforged versions of Civil War era Colt/Winchester 45's from which the sleel of their barrels were forged from the remains of the ancient sword known to the world as 'Excalibur', Most importantly, Roland is The Last Gunslingeralso heir to Arthur Eld aka King Arthur of Camelot in the Kingdom of light, (cough) Gilead... Think of him as an 1800's Marshall running back the Old West era into US or southern US the say both lost the Civil war and then add something on top let's say something like the Black Plague hits them... (in actuality you'll find out it's a modified black plague which is the Stand's 'Captain Trips' virus)and the world that's there? The folks are grim.. sarcastic.. Go, do whatever, I mean really life's over, the world ended, "didn't you get the end of the world memo?" end of anyway as well, so the pig says, "buhdidibbudibidibibidib, that's all folks."
The cause of his world being destroyed is Martin Broadcloak/Walter O'Dim.. aka "The Man In Black." Walter had his father Stephen Deschain, the last Lord Of Gilead, leader of the gunslingers assassinated, corrupted and defiled Roland's Mother, hypnotizing her to his will. She being cloaked by Walters magic, unknowing goes to bring her son a gift.. Only to die tragically at the hands of her own son due to an illusion of a woman named Rhea (think of the wicked which of the west but no broom or magic, but somewhere around 19 on a 1-10 Jedi/Sith Good/Evil index) having been placed over her, and at the time the visions in Roland's mind at that was an obsession with a Pink/Mauve crystal ball of blinding/utterly truthful and everyone of the the most horrible and desolate visions one could only find say.. in the mind of a horror writer like Steven King. (wow.. King... Never guessed that one sir ack)
In the End the song original's and this new take/revamp of is all about "The Man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed" I liked the song so much... I wrote it twice lol.
Bill's Morgue (rough mix 2) by Surak 8 months ago
this is why I post rough mixes lol sometimes what people say upsets me.. the vocals being off..... haven't sung in 3 months and just got a new condensor mic... so I can hear everything in a 3 block radiii.. except my... (hehe and for the record there are 3 differnt guitar tracks there... the lead/sopranoblond (is how the track is listed/labeled in LogicEx... good thing I have a 24 fret guitar on tap) as I have recorded it so carefully.. it has no life to.. it is excluded too.... trainwrecks... best prepare for the worst, but hope for the best

Concerning Hobbits Guitar redub by Surak 1 year ago
Thanks for the comments guys I appreciate it.

pharm, I blame RayLaVeau for the satch sound influence.

FYI it has 10 tracks, 3 leads that play in and around each in a fashion that makes them sound like one smooth continuous lead
3 backing support leads that kick in on the symphony sections.
The bass is a cheap Fender Jazz bass and it is recorded via microphone. (a Shure 57) and it's recorded using a 25 dollar First Act amp purchased from Wal-Mart. (note: as I never plan to play bass live, I can live with it)
, and also a midi tambourine played via Musical Keyboard.
2 clean electric rhythm guitars, as well as one acoustic played with a quarter, (US 25 cent coin, no I never inhaled and didn't enjoy it) to give a pluck sound similar to the harpsichord on the original.

Surak endorses Gibson guitars, DR coated strings and Marshal amps.

No horses were abused or harmed during the recording of this song.

The Seventh Year "Someday Never Came" by Surak 2 years ago
Let's see.. I had only been on iComp six months at this point.. from 12/05 forward. I didn't buy a bass guitar until 08/06... so.. what's there cannot be a bass guitar. and if you asked that guy in June of 06 what "musical typing" was he would say something to you like "Huh?" I have to say upon revisiting, that it has a thick meaty bass tone that is not lacking. For in truth the bass exists as being a guitar using the pitch shifter and only the top 3 wound strings. smiley

ok, where do I begin? ok, the pre-chorus reminds me of Alice in Chains Sap album, the chorus reminds me of (giggles) Pink Floyd. And to me no matter what else was changed, one part (the uhm middle part.) had to be dead on. I was not displeased with this in any form. (but I was prepared to send 1 million attack bunnies to your residence to destroy it and you, if I was)

I always wonder on the middle/solo section, what would someone like Mozart, or Beethoven (when he could hear) say about it? but I digress. Thank you for sharing this lovely version.

Something Wicked -03- Dark Lord Rising (Wicked Remaster) by Surak 2 years ago
(
the intro
2 clean guitars and 1 bass guitar (Fender Jazz)

the orchestra
Chris Heins and some dated apple loops. lol. 12 tracks of orchestra: two of Chris playing (violin/cello?) (elaborate for us?) one with enough reverb to drown small animals, and one clean. For the sympony of loops, I used the Celtic thingie that sounds like a cello being eaten by a hacksaw. The beat is the Oriental beat thing that sounds like beating bamboo sticks on rocks in a Chinese rock garden. There are 2 bass guitars, one mixed as an orchestra bass, one normal for punch. two different mirrored recordings of bass no loops. One is a Gibson Les Paul tuned down using The AU Pitch Shifter that's stock in all versions of GarageBand using a setting shifted down to -1200. The other my real bass, which is a 1985 Fender Jazz blue Bass with cigarette burns and stickers for tone.

the rock band
9 guitars (8 rhythm tracks, 4 each side stereo, and 1 lead)
3 tracks of bass (real not fake bass, 1 track copied 3 times, 1 Fender Jazz Bass) (one I EQ'd treble, one to mids, and one to low for to appease the gods (or one certain mod))
4 tracks of vocals (2 lead and 2 backing)
and 6 tracks of drums (right and left toms, snare, kick, top, and hit-hat)

thanks everyone for the comments! I had fun remixing this.. if anything I simplified the mix from the old one, taked a few things, left 95 percent of the mix the exact same... did raise the main vox and lower the backers a bit. Xolv, my only defense is that even if I cloned myself I think he'd still sound like me. (Which I did clone myself so I could be lazy and not work, then he said he wanted a day off, and wanted to be me, and I shot him)

drums sound a little flat.... guitars sound like 5-6 other surak songs... his lead could be a little better... like the overdriven flanged out bass, oh wait.... NM lol needs a last verse or shake the fates part after the solo...

the timing in the intro is eh, but then gets near perfect halfway in. (I know demo track first run goes with the eh so-so mix quite well)

Then I might suggest have Surak sing this on the part he wants (which is just the part before the solo and same on the end, RE: needs a final part after the solo for you)

The Dark Lord speaks a word, The Darkness spreads unheard.
Take your fate and run, Something wicked this way comes.
Running for the exit, or into an endless pit.

that is a rockband USB midi drumset mapped to midi and a combo of two drumsets layered over each other (70's kit and Studio heavy kit from the Rhythm Section jam pack) one thing I've learned is that one cannot have a heavy song without the drums being up to par... and this isn't some double bass madness required beats.
