| Thank you for the comments. I have recorded my songs in a much more simplistic way and it seems to work. Many friends say that the song has more of a nerve now. Interesting questions pharmakeus. I'm not so sure which of the metaphors you mean? I don't think that there is a literal father in the sky that controls the rain. However, I do think and believe that the doctrine of Trinity is neglected in our belief systems today. |

| Thanks so much JacobWasher. It is funny you should mention Cornelis Vreeswijk, cause I actually sent Sång för Gagga to Ssstebbe to be inspired by. It onlyl confirms what a good pianoplayer he is. I think J.son Lind does a wonderful job when he plays for Cornelis. I would love to get to Cornelis' song writing ability though. | |

![]() It is hard to see how this could be done better. I do not usually set fives on all parts, but I simply can't find anything to improve. It is obvious that you are skillful with the production side of things. The sound i great and you use the whole breadth of panning and other stuff. In addition to that, as I am sure I have said before, you have a great voice. Although, it not as evident in this song as in some of your other songs. Now you think that I think your singing was bad here, which is absolutely not the case. If anything, there is too little of it, that's why it is not as evident. What I really, really like with this song though is the composition. One gets drawn in to it as a listener and even though it is rather simplictic there are new things to listen to and one finds new things constantly. I think that's a great sign of good songwriting together with great mixing and composing. In other words, wonderful. I would love to know what you listen to yourself. I think there is some Moby, some Akasha and perhaps some Trüby Trio. I'm curious! |

![]() I get completely drawn in to your music. You have an obvious musical talent, but you probably know that already. The instruments are working very well and it is wonderful how they resonate, or echo each other. The theme is, furthermore, very strong and it certainly has connections with the feel of Donnie Darko. Just like the film, your piece is dissonant, yet beautiful, serene perhaps. Having said that I think there is some space for development in the tune. It feel like an opening rather than a full composition. And that is not meant to be a harsh criticism. What I mean is that this is such a strong piece that I think you should build on it. What I, personally, would love to hear then are some bits where the instruments are slightly more disharmonious, where they kind of play against, but still with each other. I think this song kind of builds up for that. It can of course end with a symbiosis again. Well that was only some thoughts. All in all I'm touched and impressed. |

![]() I love this kind of music. It is very adventurous and still so beautiful. You are roght that it is hard to guess what comes next, but I still think that this is a wonderful musical composition. I've just read some articles about John Cage and then log on to iComp and find this type of music that is wonderful. I usually try to give some (hopefully) constructive criticism, but it is so very hard with this. Mostly, perhaps because it is so much up to the listener how one hears the music. So I think I will refrain from it. Furthermore, your playing is great, the production likewise and the creativity even stronger. I really like the staccatto feel of the bgeinning that then turns into a more legato feel. Maybe it is the contrasts that makes this peice appeal to me. Thanks! |

![]() Very impressive first of all to get all the rhythms to interlink with each other. I like the piano a lot, particularly the rather messy beginning and the part where the piano goes together with the bass quite a lot. This is a sort of masterpiece in mixing at least. The second part gets rather groovy as well and I like that. However, I'm even though it is very well mixed I'm not so sure that the different parts and beats meshes that well from the perspective of a whole song. i think it gets a bit too messy overall and I find it a little bit hard to hear the core of the song, where is it heading so to speak? There are otherwise many strong parts in the song, but maybe some more work might be put in to composition and make it slightly simpler. Yet, that depends on how one wants and likes it though. |

![]() Very nice Iris DeMent, The Be Good Tanyas feel on the guitar and drums. The somewhat dry drums and and the driving guitar really brings the song forward. Your voice comes in very nicely in the feeling of the song and it brings some feelgood atmosphere. It is a very nice composition that catches my attention, I like it a lot. It is a simple song that shows most signs of very good songwriting. It is simply wonderful to come acroos golden nuggets like this on iComp. Lyrics andmelody wise I have nothing to comment on really, except for keep it up. However, I think the song can be brought up a notch in the performance. It is really good, so don't take it wrong, but it can be developed. I get that feeling that the guitar can be a little bit tighter in the performance and the eggsound doesn't have to be so upfront in the mix and the backing vocals can be a bit more in front. This is probably only my taste, but I think the song slows down a littlebit too much in the instrument part, where it is easy to loose intrest. The vocal parts are wonderful and I'm al ears, it would be great if that is kept throughout the song. Overall, I really hope you feel that i really really like this song, I'm well impressed by both your writing skills and your vocals and instrumentation. |

![]() Talking about another Dylan, Bob that is, this is reminiscent of his Oh Mercy sound which I completely low. It is a great mellow tone in the song which I think is built up by the acoustic guitar in combination with the laid back bass playing. It is an absolutely wonderful track I have to agree with other people's comments. The harmonies simply brings the song into a different level, this is way proffessional. I would love to reach this level myself. There is one thing though, I'm not completely convinced about the electric guitar solo. The guitar playing is otherwise full with feeling, but the solo doesn't quite feel the same. It might be harsh to say re-record it, but I think the song would go from great to fantastic with a bit more work on the solo. |

![]() First of all, what an amazing instrumentalist you are. It is almost unbelievable how well you are playing and, you have really been able to imitate that Corea sound more or less to perfection. You show very good skills in improvisation as well. Are you playing the other instruments as well? If so, then I'm simply jealous. I played this on on guitar when I was into playing jazz. I just found it very hard and not easy at all to play lead on, but you have done it brilliantly. Now to the threes. They are simply there because I think, probably similar to Vaporman that covers should be inovative to get high grades on concept and creativity. I do covers myself because I like them and I suspect that you have done the same with this one. So, whilst it is not inovative, it is still excellent! |

![]() You build up a great feeling in the intro. And the vocals goes so well together with the mood of the song. This really is good and professional to say the least. I like the minimalistic instrumentation the most, the piano is just there and is not easily noticed all the time, but all these small things make the song what it is according to me. I'm not listening on great speakers at the moment so maybe I shouldn't say this. But I think the bass sound could be made a little bit more "round" and warm so to speak. It sounds a little bit too edgy for my liking in the beginning of the song. Other than that, great work! The song really grows on you. |

![]() I like the feeling you have created here. It feels very live even though it is a international collaboration. That is a great achievement. On the other hand it is also there I feel that it can be improved. It doesn't quite feel like all the different instruments have meshed enoughed. The mix is still a little bit edgy in my ears and as such it doesn't quite feel like the song comes together as it should. The instruments are all doing a very good job, the guitar solo is good (although perhaps a little bit loud since I don't hear the very very nice cello work well enough) and the singing is expressive as well. It is simply amazing how iComp brings so many talented people together. I love that. To end, I am very impressed by the drumming and the cello. It is a good song, so don't be put down by my comments. I think the only thing I'm saying is that there is room for improvement with mixing for example. |

![]() Oh, very nice intro. I can't stop thinking about Nightmares on Wax. If you haven't heard them it would be a suggestion. The drums, bass and the string type/keyboard sound goes together very well. I really like the sound and beat you have put together here. It creates a kind of erie feeling. The composition is good as well, I like the break about a third in to the song, where there is only rapping and drums. that makes the song interesting. The end is good as well, it would be really nice to hear this one on an album to see what would follow it. My only real criticism is that it feels a little bit untight. I'm not so sure if you want to have it that way and I'm only missing something out, which is likely. Or if it really is a little bit untight. It is mostly the strings I'm thinking of. Other than that, create piece of composing and songwriting. |

| Jazz! by SageSenSai | 6 years ago |
![]() My first thought is, is this jazz? Maybe it should go under electronic. But, since jazz is a very wide ganre, I won't complain. I'm at fault myself to put something here that might not belong. It is rude to start with a criticism, so ignore my first point. I really like the beat you got going on the drums and it goes well together with the keyboard sound. Furthermore, the voice comes in nicely as well. As such, composition wise it is a good tune. And in a production perspective it is good as well. The sound is great, however, it does feel like there is a little bit too much happening at one and the same channel. Kind of in the front of the sound so to speak. Try to spread out ths sounds a little bit more. Furthermore, perhaps you could come in with a little bit more new things later on in the song. It becoms a bit repetative. Nonetheless, I do like the feel you manage to create in this song and I'm not normally a great fan of this type of music so you have done well to get me listen and enjoy it. Well done! |

| The Last Words by echoesbleeding | 6 years ago |
![]() Fat guitars and a very heavy sound. The soundeffects (voices or whatever it is) work very well as well, they bring a kind of mysterious feel to it. Echoesbleeding is a kind of fitting name somehow, even though I don't know what it would mean. It would be great to read the lyrics. The words fit very well to the melody, but I'm not always geat to work out the exact words. Nonetheless, it is more the singing that catches my attention. It is very good, forceful and intrucive (in a good way!). You have also made good use of the channels, which is always interesting and exciting, different voice tracks overlaps eachother in a well planned way. Furthermore, I really like the strings in the background throughout the song, they keep the song together more than anything else, well composed! Are they loops? If I should find something to critisise it would be the end. It is a bit of a shame that the crunchy guitar doesn't return more and finish the song off. I think the drums don't really provide the finish a song like this deserives. Rather, cut it off after the guitars and strings or something, but that is only my humble opinion. Nonetheless, thanks for a very good listening experience! |

| Messin' With The Kid (thoddi & daddio collab) by Daddio | 6 years ago |
![]() It is hard to hear such a slowed down version of this song after being hooked on the Blues brothers' version. I think some of the natural groove in the song has gone missing a bit. It is possible because of the reverb that is a bit too high for my liking, but I know loads of people who love this kind of reverb. The performance is, as every great, I think it could be mixed slightly different though in order to create space for all the instruments. As people have already pointed out, the harmonica is too loud. This is noticable especially in the final guitar solo and harmonica bit where I can barely hear the guitar, and that is a pitty! The singing is good, but perhaps the effects could be slightly different on it. I like the vocals that are a fair bit in the background, they give a good depth to the song. I have to point out that the guitar and harmonica is great in terms of musicianship. I love the intro harmonica, very impressive, it is just a little bit too dominant. You are a great bluesman, no doubt! Would be fun to collaborate with you at some point! |

![]() This has got such a Takashi feel to it, what a lovely and complicated song. I love avantgarde type jazz and this most certainly goes under that category, at least in my ears. It took some time for me to realise what the rhythm was all about, I didn't find the meaning so to speak in the drumming, but once the bass and keyboard come in it makes a lot more sense. I'mm just in awe that it is possible to find this type of musicianship on iCompositions. have you recorded an album or something (I just assume that you are a group). The bass sound has got a nice Herbie Hancock feel to it, a little bit Headhunter influences perhaps? Furthermore, I love the interaction between the keyboard, drums and the bass. It works exceptionally well together. That's also where the extreme strongpoints are, where you are really working together, I'm not as sure on the intro and the drum break on the other hand. For me the drums need some support in order to carry it through, but I might not have a refined enough ear though. I'm also think a little bit about the end. It is such a high tempo, active song and I would perhaps have preferred a more abrupt end than what it is, perhaps in the middle of a syncopate that you make so well. Nevertheless, I am incredibly impressed by your music, Now I have to have a listen to your other songs! |

![]() This is trully a real rocker. It makes me think of Alabama 3, which is a good thing! It is such a good structure in this song. You start off by establishing the heaviness and the rhythm and then you increase that for a few choruses, then, by the end of the song you get in to a sort of talking bridge which I think is definitely needed here so that there is more variety in the song, well composed. I wasn't completely convinced by the singing in the beginning, but when I realised what type of song it was you won me over. You got the right expression in your voice for this. Otherwise, I find the straight forward no frills instrumentation on it the only way this song can be performed and the drum licks are probably my favorite. I would love to be able to get that type of drumming in to my songs. My only real (hopefully constructive) criticism is that I don't think the bass guitar is loud enough, but there is real chance that that depends on my speakers. Well done! |

![]() I really like the bass type sound and the drums are very dance friendly. The intro takes you in to the groove in a good way so it is well composed. I'm not so sure about the piano sound though, the melody is good enough, but it is more the sound that i think good be reworked a little bit. What I do like is your synth type string sound, it fills out the song very nicely and it gives good depth to the overall soundlandscape. I don't know if the end is as it should though, it was slightly abrupt here, is it leading in to another song? I'm not very in to electronic dance music, but I most definetely like this up beat song that brings you into a good mood. |

![]() It would be nice if you wrote how much of what is going on is you and what are loops. I assume that you play the guitar and most of the other things are either loops or software instruments. Nonetheless, this is absolutely wonderful. The composition and creativity in the melody are absolutely amazing to me. I like the reoccuring theme that are then embellished with various guitar equilibristic adventures. There are times though when I think that the overlaps between the different parts could have been a little bit smoother. That could also be that I am listening on a not so good computer. Overall, I really like the song and am very impressed if it is all written and performed by you! |

![]() I really liked the mysterious intro and the very highpitch sounding snaresounds. However, the synth that comes in after a while is a little bit too disharmonious for my liking. I am, on the other hand not a big Jarre fan, so maybe I'm totally missing the point. The strongpoints of this song are the percussion and the drums, they get me on a uplifted mood. The handclapping type sounds goes very well with the mood as well. The composition in itself is well structured though and the themes comes back and sometimes appears slightly reworked, I liked that. It means that I never get bored listening to this song. Well done! |

| Well, thanks for comments even though they are critical, I don't mind that too much even though one always get a bit down of course. I don't agree that the singing is reedy or out of tune, but I'm sure others are better judges at that. I will definetly do some remixing of it I think, lower the background vocals at times etc. Furthermore I think I will take away both the drums and the electric guitar. It is weird, cause I was really pleased with the singing on this one, and then it happens that that's a main criticism, well you can only account for your own taste can't you? |

![]() Ah, you certainlly have found a niche, and I think you that are pulling it off very well. I'm not used to this type of music and it can sound a bit chaotic at times in my ears, inn particular when the guitar type sound comes in and is echoed by an organ sound. I soon got use to it, however, and must say that it is very professionally done. I should explain my "3" grade. This is simply subjective, but this very fushion type music is not my style, I'm much more of a be-bop, hard-bop to late Coltrane type of jazz listener. Although, I do like Hancock's Headhunter and Thrust. This is one step further and perhaps a bit beyond me. Nonetheless, don't be deterred by that, because I have loads of friends that would love this and I can certainly hear that you have the talent. I'm not an Ozric Tentacles fan, but you should get in to them if you don't already know abot them. Back to the tune: You have made a very coherent tune, which must be hard in this genre (what ever genre this would fit in?). I particularlly like the Hancock type synth sound, it is spacy, but still down to earth. It has that early, mid seventies keyboard sound to it and that goes very well with this song. Nonetheless, I must say that I think the intro is the best part of the song. You build in everything very well on the drum, percussion and bass rhythms. That is how good song writing should be done, gently introducing one new element after the other. Wonderful!!! |

![]() Very well done, excellent first go. I notice as well that the levels can change a bit when you export the tune to iTunes. I would probably lower the levels a little bit in Garageband and see what happens. I like the song and you have used the loops very creativly and made it funky. I think, to move it to the next level that you should try to change a little bit on the actual loops so that they sound a bit more original. Furthermore, use the panning effect as well. What I meant with that is that you can put certain instruments so that they are more prominent on either the right or the left channel. This means that the song gets a broader sound. However, I definetly like what you have done, so keep it up and experiment so that you find your sound! |

![]() I like the beat of the song and you have used the panning effects very well. I think perhaps there could come in something more rhythm wise, but all in all a very listenable song. The main thing is that you have managed to create a quite simple song and maintaining the interest which I think is a very tough thing to do. However, the change about two thirds in the song almost sounds like a new song to me. If this would have been on a album i would have expected a change of track number there, but since this is not an album I think it was great to hear how well ou are able to intertween melodies. |

| Nobody Knows The Trouble I've Seen by ssstebbe | 7 years ago |
![]() Amazing song, incredible musicianship, I'm soo impressed. I feel like I have to explain my "4" though. I think this is a great arrangement of a great song, but this is a purely subjective and personal opinion. This is one of my absolute favorite Mahalia Jackson songs and she sings it with such depth and pain that it is slightly hard to reconcile it with the (absolute fantastic) latin beat in this song. It is nothing against the arrangement. I was simply thining of the lyrics "nobody know the trouble I've seen, nobody know but Jesus." having said that Mahlia herself makes a swinging ending on her version as well, so I shouldn't be critical. I love this version, though, don't get me wrong. It is weird how there can be such a great interaction between you two being thousands of miles apart. But you compliment each other really well in the playing. That's what makes great music! Thanks for letting me have a awsome (to be a little bit American) music experience! |

![]() I love your guitar playing, you are great with that, I'm not too keen on this type of blues though, but you are nonetheless pulling it off extremely well. If I would be into this kind of music I cannot see why you shouldn't be able to get a contract when Gary has one. Although I have to agree with BeanBand that the song lacks a little bit in structure. having said that though, it is very strong as a whole, nowhere in the song do I find myself thinking that this has gone on for too long or anything. I think that is mainly due to the great guitar works though. I would love to have those smooth fingers of yours! |

![]() Wonderful singing, I really like the background singing on the verses, it is spars, simple and gripping. It sounds like a early demo of Simon and Garfunkel, or something. Just a production tips though, use the panning effect on the background vocals so that it that the sound picture is a little bit "wider". It is a very nice song otherwise and I love the simplicity of the performance. |

![]() Well, they are well put together, but it becomes a little uneventful with all those loops and nothing else. Although I have to admit that I am not familiar with the piano loops, so I wouldn't know if there are something that is not loop made in there. But it has overall a very "loopy" feeling to it, even though you have composed them very very well. The song doesn't get boring which many songs of in this field do. |

| It’s so hard to think of a word the evening before you mother died. It pains me so, I get numb in my soul. I just spoke to her and heard our words. I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you. I want to go back to the time when my mother’s warming smile was still alive. I can see her eyes, I can hear her voice, I can smell her scent, I can feel her touch. But I still miss her, I miss her, I still miss her, I miss her. I know she is gone from this world to be with the Lord who was and is to be. But time is slow, so many hours will go, and the tides will turn in endless nights until we meet again, we’ll meet again, until we meet again, we’ll meet again. But it’s hard to find a word in the morning when my mother left to live. ‘Cause it tears my heart and it rips my bones and it tears my eyes and it stopped my time. Because I loved her, I loved her, Oh God I loved her, I loved her …I love her. |

It feels positive that at least the production has developed a bit, while there is much to do still. I would simply love to get close to the quality bonka has, but it is a long way yet. I will in a few weeks time have a few days off, so maybe I will try to work on some songs for iCompositions then. And hopefully they can be received as well as this one has. But thanks again vaporman, it's great with constructive (and encouraging) criticism like that! |

![]() The quality of the recording is really astonishing, the only slight comment I got is that the vocals are a little bit high, I think. But that is a matter of taste, I have understood. The song in itself is great, a very well composed one, and good lyrics. There's a bit of Mother's Finest, and also a Swedish band called the Creeps to it, you should check them up. Great guitar works as well, although the really fast bits gets slightly messy. But this is definetely one of the best songs I've heard on iComp. |

| These are the lyrics: Up in the high mountains where the cold stream flows, grass green a emeralds and the sun like gold. I lost my little baby, where the cold stream flows. Now tears like rain falls on the emeralds. But no tears can bring her back to her lover’s arms again. And the sun will never show it’s golden rays. Dark nights of loneliness never joined by a day. Blinded eyes from crying as she floated away. Inside these prison walls there’s no grace they say, for a boy who loved a girl on a golden day. ||: But no tears can bring her back to her lover’s arms again. And the sun will never show it’s golden rays. | |

![]() What can I say? It is so excellent that I would expect to hear this on a record, not on icompositions. It gets a little bit of a Theolonious Monk feel to it with the low vocals in the background, it is reminiscient of his grunts. Otherwise there is some Oscar Peterson in the playing I think. I just listened to his Trio, live in Chicago and he could do something like this on that one. I just feel that I have to come up with another jazzy song so you could play a solo on that one again, if you would want to of course! |

![]() A nice smooth tune I think. You have managed to use effects and all the stuff in a very convincing way. I can sometimes be bored when listening to these kind of songs, but you manage to keep it interesting throughout. Although I'm not so sure that the singing is on key all the time, maybe I just need to get my ears tuned though! |

| Nashville Bound by lboyce | 7 years ago |
![]() A great song, you got talent, not doubt. I agree with Neumuzik though about the singing. I little tips is that you should think about your phrasing when you are singing and plan when you are going to breath. It sounds as if you are breathing a little bit too many times than needed in the beginning, it gets better after a while. Very good harmonies, though, and you got a strong falsetto voice. I think you managed to catch the sound of Evlis Costello at least, don't know Paul Simon's early solo stuff too much! |
|
| Everything by lboyce | 7 years ago |
![]() Brilliant guitar playing, very funky indeed and the two guitars are complimenting each other well. Good singing as well, although there are some points where the breathing could be a little bit better and it sounds like the vocalist is struggling a little bit too much in the end. A thing that would make the song come alive a little bit more would be to pan out the guitars a little bit, perhaps putting the guitar on different channels or something. A song, nevertheless that will be downloaded and put to my favorites! |

![]() Great to hear you singing jazz. It is a great jazzy song, although, as toots said, it would benefit from real musicians instead of loops. Someone like ssstebbe I think would be great, and then some other people as well. However, it might be tricky to get all that together, but I would love to hear this song live. You have done a great job nonetheless, you have really made the loops yours, so to speak. |
|
| A Nice Day (Vocals) Collab by SlimGirlFat | 7 years ago |
![]() The piano together with your voice is brilliant, they were made for each other I think. The harmonies in this song is among the best I've heard. I get the feeling of Marvin Gaye when he is singing with himself, so to speak, and that is about the best compliment I can give someone on their singing. It's so good. Although, I think that the instrumentation can come up a bit in the mix, it is a little bit low I think. |

![]() I don't agree with BeanBand about the slide, you might need a little bit more work on the technique to really get the middle part of the song to sound great, but the beginning is wonderfully. The rhythm you got there is really encapturing and something that one can listen to all day long. Perhaps you could keep the slide, but do a further melody track, I don't know! Well done anyway. |
|
| Changes? by BblGuN | 7 years ago |
![]() Not a very coherent song, but keep it up. I don't quite manage to get in to the song because the drums and the guitars are not terribly tight, a little more work and you got a decent song there! |
|
| Shaft's Smoove Groove by maxruehl | 7 years ago |
![]() Not bad at all. I don't mean to be mean with my rating, I would just lvoe for you to experiment a bit more with the loops. You got a good ear for a groove, I just think that the only thing that is missing is some hard work to get it to sound more original. |
|
| A Funk Odyssey by cowboyspike | 7 years ago |
![]() Sure it's funky, but the songs need some more than loops now though, I like the second horn bit. The song is a little bit too unstructured though, with too much happening with too many instruments. The background groove is very good, but perhaps a little bit more of the James Brown mentality would do, less is more! |
|
| Homeless Road by Sobes | 7 years ago |
![]() It's a good beginning, but one thing that I like with guitar solos is breathing and good phrasing. I think that might be something to think about, because there are not many pauses in this solo. Therefore, while the rhythm background is good it becomes pretty monotonous. But keep on at it! |
|
| Never Thought About It by myopic | 7 years ago |
![]() I think that Beautiful So was a little bit more original than this one, but you are a great songwriter with your own handwriting so to speak. This could easily be played on the radio and people would go out and buy the album. But I agree (again!) with RyanH809 that the harmonies need some work. It feels extra important that they are perfect with this kind of music. Furthermore I would prefer to have the acoustic guitar a little bit lower, but taht might just be me. |
|
| Beautiful So by myopic | 7 years ago |
![]() This sounds very british to my ears, I don't listen much to Radiohead, but it could fit somewhere in that kind of music I think. A very good song, but it is like RyanH809 says the song would benefit if it would build a little bit more. It can stay like it is for a long time, but perhaps if there was something more happening in the end of the song or something. I like the instrumentation and the sounds you are using a lot. You have managed to created an own sound I think. |

| Thanks for all the comments, I'm quite baffled by the comparisons to Chicago because they are certainly not a favorite band of mine, so I don't know where that kind of influence might have come from. It was nice that Uber Knacht hadn't actually given me a 1.5, my confidence really took a blow of that. Thanks anyway, and I hope that I will upload something again, but as things are now it might take some time! |

| Solo Slide guitar: Jesus is on the Mainline by Daddio | 7 years ago |
![]() You are such a great slide player, and your voice sounds as if it would sound good to this type of music as well. It is such a shame that one can barely hear the singing then. What you would benefit from is by having two microphones somehow. I suspect that your are recording guitar and vocals at the same time and it is very hard to get the vocals right then. But keep on, it sounds great! |
|
| 61 Highway: Solo Slide Guitar by Daddio | 7 years ago |
![]() I love this kind of blues and you play the slide very well. I'm impressed by your thumb action. However, I think you should work a little bit more on the mixing of this one since the guitar sounds far to oud at times and the vocals, which are very good as well, don't really come through. |
|
| Mercedes Benz (cover) by Sverker | 7 years ago |
| Thank you for comments. I realise that I'm far from perfection yet when it comes to production, but that's life and its not really my cup of tea, even though I like it more and more. I did this song for fun so its very encouraging that people like it, and I will probably singing even more now after the uplifting comment by vaporman! | |
| Red house (cover) by Sverker | 7 years ago |
| Thank you all for the comments, I'm trying to get better in the recording side of things, so this one would hopefully sound different if I would do it again. Anyway, an encouraging comment on the guitar playing always warms the heart, so thank you 7smiles7 and Opiedinkle, that might make me want to practice a bit more and perhaps bring back the jazz tunes that I learnt at some point! | |
| Up to you (remixed) by Sverker | 7 years ago |
| Thanks for the comments, and thank you thatguy for the encouragements. I kind of like this song, and hopefully I'll be able to perform it live some tome so that I can give the singing another chance. I don't know if I can be bothered to record the vocals for this one one more time though. | |
| Ninety Nine Point Eight by mslav | 7 years ago |
![]() I like the feel of this song. I'm not normally to positively inclined to all-loop songs, but you pull it of very neetly. You manage to create something that has individuality, and I find the levels perfectly matched so that the music simply flows into my ears. |
|
| Killing Me by twistedperception | 7 years ago |
![]() Great song, but it really needs to be recorded again, it is a little bit rough at times and as BlackLily said it needs a band, especially in the heavier parts. It would be good, perhaps to recorded together with metronome so that the timing gets right. It would be such a shame if you don't make a new version of this song because it has potential. |
|
| Young Love! by toots | 7 years ago |
![]() I like this song, it kind of makes you feel good. The lyrics goes together very well with the melody and that is probably what makes this song so smooth, together with your singing. It is strange really since the lyrics aren't really that happy, but there is still hope and some irony in the song. I don't know if I like the synthesizer sounds or not though. I like the standard type of guitar, bass, drum set up you got and can't really make up my mind if the other sounds fit or not. But you got yourself a good song there in a good version. |

| Thank you everyone for your very helpful comments. It feels very encouraging to get so much good advice and so many compliments. I will certainly take them to heart and try to do better the next time with the things that have been critiqued. I always struggle to get the mixing and instrumentation in a right balance, but I'm sure I will get better in the long run. I feel very happy as well because I have received comments from almost everone that I respect and like the music the most here at iCompositions. Like Lagomort said, it is worth much more to get a comment from someone who obviously knows what they are talking about than someone who doesn't. So thanks again. I will try to get started on another original composition soon! to Oldlady- it's great to find another Nina Simone fan, she is one of the most soulful artists ever, and a great pianist as well! |

![]() I have to agree with jobu, very contemporary indeed, but it sounds as if you do want to portray something with your music, which makes it gripping. The samples are very beautiful in themselves and you have managed to put them together so that they become even stronger. I like it a lot! |

![]() This isn't that good not even for being ironic. I suppose that I should say something more, but I haven't got that much more to say. My view is, I suppose, that if things are going to be funny they have to be well made and spot on. |

![]() This is a country song if ever I heard one, and I would love to hear this on a CD at some point, great composition! I only got one slight criticism, which is the electric guitar. I cannot make up my mind if it suits the song or not. I would love to hear a version with cello or something instead of the guitar, but I don't know. It is so great though so maybe you shouldn't change a thing, the singing is very capturing as well. |

| Sunday Afternoon v3.2 by OldLady | 7 years ago |
![]() It has a really nice Sunday feel to it (if you don't get the blues that is!) I like the piano it is very well composed and keeps the interest up in the song. However, the drums are a little bit low at times, I think, maybe it is my headphones. And it would be nice to have a more smooth ending to this very comfortable song. I could listen to it over and over again though just because it is so smooth. |

| Who am I? by jibes | 7 years ago |
![]() I like the song, very Neil Young like, I think at least. With some better mixing (which I see that you are aware that this song needs) I would download this song straight away. I think the song is a little bit load in relation to the instrumentation. |

| Drunk Girl Crying by Blacklilyorchard | 7 years ago |
![]() I don't mind the drunkenness, it is kind of a nice song. But it is simple in the best of ways, but I don't mind hearing a new version of it and with some vocals as well. It kind of reminds me of Kathryn Williams. |

| Signor Odo by zawinul | 7 years ago |
![]() The song is quite funky and I can notice that you have a good feel for how to compose a song. But I think it is slightly long. I don't mean to be rude, but there are quite a lot of these kind of songs around now, so it is hard to to capture the interest of the listener with just loops. I would suggest that if you like someone like Herbie, that you should really try to get the song to have that feel if that is what you want, rather than that the loops are controlling where the song goes. You are the composer not the loops! I'm looking forward to hear more from you, and if you are playing an instrument, bring it on! |

| Indy Blues jazz piano trio by ssstebbe | 7 years ago |
![]() As usual, the piano is amazing. I can't stop listening to it, I think you would love a Swedish piano player called Jan Johansson, he is absolutely brilliant with a similar clean tone as yours. However, it would be nice to hear this with proper instrumentation. I think the piano deserves a likewise brilliant bass and drum playing. Not that the bass and drums are bad, is more the sound than the actual playing. But keep on pumping out good jazz tunes, cause I'll be there listening to them! |

| Blue Bar Blues by awg123 | 7 years ago |
![]() The song is very cool, but the instruments sound a little bit distant so the vocals doesn't really connect with the rest of the song. I don't quite get what happens to the guitar riff either half way through the song, it gets changed with something else. In my liking it would be better if it comes out right away rather than fade out fade in (Better to burn out than to fade away, as they say!) It's a good song, but it needs some work on the production department (I should say that that is exactly what I'm struggling with as well!) |

![]() A very nice song. It would be nice to know how much are loops and stuff though, I kind of assume that you are playing the piano. That is some very good playing, if that is you that is! Some of it sounds as if it is dragging a bit though (I find that I have problems to keep the pace going as well!). The best bit is the piano solo, I'm not as keen on the banjo thing. Just a small thing, maybe it would be good to fade the ocean sound a bit earlier it kind of drowns!!! the instruments. But i like the song, if it get a proper ending I will download it. |

| Twelve Bars (Remix) by Z293 | 7 years ago |
![]() Great playing, I love the change of sound in the guitar kind of midway. But as Candorwien it is not very original in that it is a song with wicked guitar playing, but not much more happening. But man, can you play, you manage to keep it interesting for all this time, that is quite some achievement! And you also manage to make a convincing and good ending which is not always that easy with an instrumental song! This is definetly one of my favorite guitar songs on this site! |

| Masters of War - tribute to Dylan by instantypo | 8 years ago |
![]() I'm a huge Dylan fan and I really like your rendering of this song. You don't try to copy him, but do something original from it. And you manage to create a great groove, although I think that the intro was slightly long. The bass and drums are absolutely brilliant in this one. |

| O Holy Night by georgeh | 8 years ago |
![]() The sing is good, but the backup music feels horrible with a solemn song like this. It just doesn't feel like the midi-feel does this song justice, even though there are good bits in it. I think you should keep some of the midi, while do some instrumentation yourself so that it gets more of a authentic feel to it. You got a great voice though, the only comment I got there is that it is a little bit nasal at times. I think that might happen when one wants to sing more classical. But with a more emotional backing music, this would definetely make it on my Christmas compilation (half a year from now!) |

| _By Design_ by DJ Schmorgusborg | 8 years ago |
![]() I'm not quite sure what to think about this. Are these just rip-offs? In that case you should probably think about a more creative way of using them, and less obvious. However, if you've done some own work on them they are quite good, but as you said, the don't flow. So an advice might be work work with each one of the three concepts and try to produce three songs from that. |
|
| Would you by ndickson39 | 8 years ago |
![]() The intro has a very Beth Orton/Kathryn Williams feel to it, but then there is also a bit of Kinks there as well. It is a very interesting kind of music you are doing, and your experience really shines through. I can tell I would love to get some hints and tips from you. The only criticism I could give might be the chorus, or flanger effect on the guitar which is perhaps a bit too much for my liking, but then I'm really scraping the barrel for something to pick on. The song has such a capturing rhythm and melody. It could easily be on the radio and I would turn the music up! |

| Andalusia Strat by ThePiper | 8 years ago |
![]() Not a bad idea, but I think that there is still some work to do on the execution of the song. It doesn't sound completely tight and together yet. The song could come out from a Banderas film otherwise! |

| Andy's Piano Ballad by Andy Joe | 8 years ago |
![]() This is a nice song, pleasant to listen to. It is quite easy listening, which is ok I suppose, it's just that there is not much to kind of captures you. But the performance and the production is very good. I think it would do very well as a soundtrack for a documentary, but perhaps not as a track on an album. And don't take me wrong, I really love the music they manage to find for documentaries!!! |
|
| Hmmm by 7smiles7 | 8 years ago |
![]() Man, you have to be really picky about your solos! The performance is great. I can understand that you want to work on it if you are a perfectionist and want to work on the balance and structure of the solo, but technically I can only say that you are a far better guitarist than me (even though that doesn't say much). I don't think this song is as creative as "Western song," but I must admire your skill in sound enginering, because i really like the sound you produce. It is nice mellow, soft, but not cheesy or synthetic. It's more like a good glass of red wine. |
|
| No one said it was over V1 by jibes | 8 years ago |
![]() What a great song! It got a kind of Willie Nelson type of feel to it, but you are really having your own own style nevertheless. I like that! The melody is very encaptivating as well, and works very well with the lyrics. I love this kind of lyrics. However, I'm not so sure about the creeking sound, it's not bad, it's just that it's a bit laod to me. Otherwise, i quite like all the odd percussion bits and pieces you have put in in the song, they give it individuality. My end comment would be, keep it up, this is great song writing! |

| Western Song by 7smiles7 | 8 years ago |
![]() This is an absolutely brilliant soundtrack song. I would love to see the animation! The guitar playing is very good and sensitive. Therefore, when the strings come in about mid-way they really enhances the feelings. The sound is very good, soft and round, so to speak. However, I'm not as keen on the wah-wah bit, possibly because the sound on the guitar is not as good there, or that it is a bit high in the mix, which kind of makes a break in the sound picture. Although I'm aware that this part might be needed for the animation, in terms of what happens in the story. And also, the ending is a little bit halfhearted. But I hope this doesn't disapoint you, because I think it is a fantastic tune, and I will add it to my favorites immediately! |

| Crazy Stories by TobinMueller | 8 years ago |
![]() I don't know where to place this song really, it is very innovative, it's like Elvis Costello meets avant-garde jazz. I'm very impressed by the re-worked sax trio. If it took a lot of time (which it sounds as if it has) then it was certainly worth the effort. I can't really make out the lyrics, and another, only slight, criticism is the synth sounds. The synths or whatever they are sounds a bit too synthetic for my taste, but it is on the other hand quite an absurd composition this song anyway, so they fit well in that perspective. But otherwise, great song and absolutely wonderfully creative arranging and performing. Definitely not a song you get bored by. |

![]() Once again, a great song, and I really like the mandolin, it really makes the difference. Nice change from the mandolin to the guitar in the solo. The singing is a little bit rough though, is the key a little bit high perhaps? I could definetivly learn a lot from you when it comes to production, I really like the sound picture you manage to build up. |

![]() I don't think I ever would have given top grade in everything to any song, but man are you good at this! I think that the rating says it all, but some comments might be at its place. I can only say that this will be the only musical that I'm looking forward to to see, but perhaps that will never happen, since I'm living in London, but when it comes to the West End I'll be there. The talking in the beginning works so well and the singing is simply perfect for this song. Wondrful lyrics, quite humorous and good feel for phrases. Furthermore, the African drums work well with the more "Western" sounding piano and flute, perhaps it is because it is so well mixed! As you see, I can go on forever complimenting this song, but I'm going to stop now! |

| Toledo Two Step by awg123 | 8 years ago |
![]() This song sounds far to patchy and the bass sound doesn't really work with the intro organ, I think. It feels as if the organ wants to be supported by pretty clean instruments, while the guitar and bass are to distorted for my liking (nothing wrong with distortion, but there is a little bit toomuch of it in this song I think). But the rest sounds a little bit out of sync, and that also makes it feel as if the instruments aren't playing together. |
|
| Raw funky blues by paco | 8 years ago |
![]() I agreed to an extent with Gonzolicious that the guitar is slightly too much distorted, that to me makes the feeling disapprear a bit, which I'm sure is there. It's a shame with the ending, but you have managed to make a good straight down blues tune. Nothing has perhaps been brought to the genre that John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton didn't bring, but this is a good attempt! |

| get it on by twohalls | 8 years ago |
| I like the verse a lot, especially the bass sound. It would be nice to know how much is loops here, cause the song is good, and I don't recognise lines in the verse. The bluegrass influence works as well, although I think it becomes a little bit uch with the Indian rhythm bridge. That feels like there are too many ideas, while if you take it away, the song becomes simple and very groovy. | |
| You can take my hand... by macfrans | 8 years ago |
| When you said that you wrote this for your girl I expected some love song lyrics, but ohh no, but I was not dissappointed, because the song is very strong. There is a certai easy listening feel to it, but it is certainly not too cheesy, and I'm very happy that you haven't got any synth-carpets or anything, but keep yourself to a quite simple instrumentation. It creates a wonderful simple feel to it, while the instrumentation also creates complete sound picture. The percussion feels vital to the song (the egg), but it is in no way distracting from the melody, good mixing in other words. i can only say, thank you for sharing! | |
| The Villain by gjtaylor2004 | 8 years ago |
| Great lyrics, I completely love them. Although, the flute, if that is what it is, is a bit too much in the front of the mix for my liking and it is perhaps not the best sound either, but nevertheless, the rest of the song is brilliant. Nice understated type of music that one can so easily fall in love with! | |
| Bachus' Delight by Gooseeggs | 8 years ago |
| Quite Alabama 3 inspired, very good with the dark and heavy feel in the vocals. I really like this kind of dark American swampemerged type of music liek 16 Horsepower and others. your voice is great for this and the banjo comes in well just as the slide guitar. You could possible think of another way of ending this song though, I'm not so sure a fade out is the best way. | |
| Sucede by ricardo_c | 8 years ago |
| The song in itself is good, it certainly has its charm and is nice to listen to. You manage you build up a wonderful atmosphere, but I think you will have to work a little bit on the timing with the guitar, it comes a little bit off beat. The singing is alright, it goes well with the type of music, but you could possibly work a bit more on the harmonies since they are a bit out at times. But I really liked the song! | |
