I might as well explain some of the Portland references too while I'm at it..... (Chorus) It's NEP, 503, I love my city (repeat) (Verse) My NEPeoples never stop from the stairs* down to the block / Stop at Dees*, get a pop, but not after 2 O'Clock / 503, so serene, see my boys s*****g w*** / kickin back some OE* / From Burnside to the river and all across the ridge* / Thinkin' bout people shiverin underneath the bridge * / City of Roses/ but not without it's thorns / and when I have my son, i know where he'll be born/ I hear the rain start to drip / My mind gets to meditating / how i look in someone's eyes and feel the deep relation/ Slowly drive down Knott Street / all i can think about is memories/ people laugh and giggle at P-town but HELL NO, not me / Cuz I know this place, this is where i grew up / and if you front on us, we AINT AFRAID TO RAISE UP / Put your hoodie on, and tighten the string / I love this city so much i think I'll buy it a ring...... | Alright you asked for honest feedback and heres my opinion. I like your voice a lot. It's very sentimental and soothing in the chorus. The theme in your song is good, the lyrics are good. My only suggestions are these: You're trying to do to many runs with your voice during the early verses of the song. If I were you I'd wait until later in the song to have your voice running all over the place. Second thing is that the instrumentation is thin. In the verses its ok, but in the chorus I'm longing for the song to have more instruments. Third and final, the song never really builds. Maybe this was done on purpose, but I find myself waiting for a huge crescendo of soul-bearing and loud melodic ad-libs. Overall though, i think your very talented and you have a lot more potential than you're showing. That's just my opinion, if you disagree or have questions let me know, and don't judge my knowledge of R&B only on my "I still love you" song cuz it's kind of a joke lol. | |
