| Taking Flight (Zinc Guitar & More Daleks) Final Mix by The_VoxMan | 1 year ago |
| Thanks! It is more different than anything I have ever done before this period in life. Most of my stuff has been very much something else until I bought a Mac G5 and thought I was getting smart with it. The fact is that it gave me different music when I tried to make it do what I wanted so I just allowed for the situation as it was happening and then called in Doctor Zinc (Who is absolutely awesome and so very talented!) who did the ebow guitars. He sent me one mix that I really liked but then I started doing my own and moved some stuff around and found that I liked the Daleks representing this new thing of strangeness. It was my first romp through Garageband and it gave me some thrills. Now I am all about getting my sound with extra learnings inside GB. It is happening now but it goes slow as I take care of my family (My little sister is going through a much needed divorce and I am here now for her children/my godchildren.). So family first and my art comes in as at can. Fitness is first for the family so I can be there for them and so that goes under the family umbrella but the children come first until I know they are safe. Sorry about all the stuff I just laid out there. It had to go somewhere and hopefully it will be going in the direction of playing some guitar with my brother today. We will be doing our style of The Ramones, The Rolling Stones and whoever else comes out to play. I hope this happens. It would be nice. Thanks for the kind words. I feel good that people are still finding my music in this place. I have been gone for a while and am only now getting my groove on again. It's great and sounds fantastic, if I don't say so myself ... the new stuff coming up in a bit, that is. Checking out now. My hand hurts. Broke my right wrist by falling down the stairs twice a couple of weeks ago and I am out of pain meds. Gotta split for now. Will be back later. |

![]() I knew this woman. She called herself The Countess and she made my life a living hell for 7 long years. I am so going to write one called The Countess. Thanks for the inspiration. And, yes, this is, as always a first rate piece I can relate to but then again I will bet a lot of guys will have someone like this in their past. Good sharp vocals and a spiffy guitar sound drive this one. Another one that sets the bar a little higher for you. |

![]() Dude! I love the way the guitar chugs around in parts and then there is this subtle keyboard effect I cannot nail. What is that? Sounds almost as if you are playing your guitar through a Leslie amp. Very good use of effects and subtlety! |

![]() ![]() I came to this one half expecting a cover of the classic song. I am, as ever, quite surprised. This unique piece has the qualities of creepiness that I like and a trippiness that is reminiscent of the girlfriend that keeps poking you in the ribs every five minutes with a Popsicle and murmuring strange and weird little sounds in your ear. Anybody ever get that one? Anybody? No? Okay, she was a bit kinky and the stuff she did with a hairbrush and a bottle of conditioner. Well, I will say no more since this is a family oriented site but some adults can use their imagination. Well, she did work as a hair stylist and knew how to have fun. Say no more. Nudge, nudge! Wink! Wink! Anyway, back to the song ... very interesting. I can honestly say that I have never heard anything like it. Good collab, peoples! |

![]() Nice rant.. I know people like this. They are not friends of my parents, happily. I like the way the words and the music blur together. Neat production effect! I could so hear this used in a remake of "Mommy, Dearest." So, if you used no loops then what did you play for this? I like to know things like that. |

| It seems that your hiatus has fueled your energies very well. Well I know that comparisons are odious but I must say that there is a bit of Hazel O'Conner (Breaking Glass) in this to my ear. It is good to have you back. As usual you have disabled ratings. I tend to find them meaningless as well. When you are good, you just know it. Although, being a newbee to this site, I sometimes let others grade my work and try not to get involved with it. ________________________________________________ My feedback on the ratings section would be that the production values are very solid and professional but at the end the song, and this is most likely a deliberate part of the mix, the vocals get a bit foggy and indistinct. It sounds as if you are going back to the "chorus" but I can not make it out. Deliberate? Again, it is good to have you back. I always look forward to your uploads. How was your vacation? |

![]() Roadhouse sound to the max!!! This chugs along like a Hell's Angels road trip without the violence. Dude, this is the blues! You got it right. Only thing I can find to nail is that it ends too abruptly. This has a great live sound. Maybe the sound of everybody throwing down their instruments or unplugging from their amps could finish it off. Maybe? |

![]() I love the subtlety. It makes it sound ghostly. I, as a fan of slide guitar, however, would like to hear that slide in the beginning amped up a bit. Overall, though, a very pensive and mournful in the best tradition of the blues kind of blues song. |

| BOOK OF NIAVITY: VOLUME 3: STRANGE TREES by OMNICELL | 2 years ago |
![]() That is an amazing tree! Is this an altered photo or is there really one like this? I like your story of how the piece came to be. There is a voice in the earth and in the air and the living things that make no sound we can hear do have a voice. The voice of a tree is, because it lives so long, one that human ears cannot hear and conversations take much time. Tolkien had a fairly good grasp of it and I know a few earth mothers who talk to trees in real time. Anyway, I love the concept and will keep listening. Peace out! |

![]() I detect a young Billy Joel singing here ... no offense meant here. I know well that comparisons can be odious but this is meant in high compliment. I do not much care for what Joel did in his later years, it was the early stuff that was interesting to me. I like the clear sound and the well used reverb. I just became an active listener. Good piece! Peace out! |

| Necronomicon by The_VoxMan | 2 years ago |
| I am sure that John Petrucci has very little interest in my work. After hearing his work, which I totally respect, I find no similarity. For that matter, there are a lot of songs and movies and all kinds of media out there bearing the same name and each taken on it's own merits deserves to be acknowledged as the unique creature it is. Comparisons are mundane and titles are a dime a dozen in the world of creativity. What happens to the title after it is launched as a unique piece from an artist is what matters. Nobody will even notice this silly little thing I did a long time ago and so it is what it is with no turning back. Do I wish it could be better? Hell, yes! But I am moving on from that time and have simply made this bit of fun available for archival purposes. After all, if I died today, nobody would ever know I tried so hard to be in tune and failed so badly. The name stays because Bruce read directly from the book for the so-called lyrics. Thanks for stopping by. |

| Earth Day, Get Out of My Face! (1990) (Almost Live!!!) by The_VoxMan | 2 years ago |
| Well! Quite a compliment. They were really heavy proto-punk. None of us had heard of them at the time, though and so the influences charging us were coming from another place. Mostly Sex Pistols and some Dead Kennedy's were in the background sparking some kind of cohesiveness. I learned about the MC5 much later when I went to college again and hung out with all kinds of musicians and poets and art types. I had heard their name when I was DJ in the early 80's but we did not play their music on that station so I did not hear it until the Internet started putting out things like Soulseek and Vuze. Again, thanks for the positive remarks. I checked out your last piece and am impressed. Is that photo really how old you are now? The voices sound much older. |

| A adore the bluesy club feel to this. It puts me of a mind to be sitting in front of live band sipping a Jack Daniels neat in a Chicago Blues Club. Very professional sounding. You are ready for the next level! |

![]() ![]() Too damned cool! I just started grinning right from the start and could not stop until I threw cold water in my face. For a dude that never heard the song you did an excellent take on it. I like yours better than the original, probably because I always heard this on AM radio in the Kansas City area when I was but a lad and the sound quality was, well, it was AM radio at the time and even on a nice Pioneer set it honked. This one, however, really honks! Absolutely love it! Keep 'em coming and while you're at it give my stuff a listen. Some of it actually doesn't suck. Laters all. |

Look for the new take with more sci-fi stuff in it coming soon to your favorite doctor's place. |

| I mixed in headphones for the initial stuff and then moved my station out to the studio area -it had been in to cozy up with a cable connection for updates- and listened to the final mix on really big speakers. When I finally got it upload and listened to it on little computers speakers I found that the mix is a bit punchy for those wee suckers. I make no apologies for that, however, it was meant to be listened to on the big boys toys. Try it out there and see if you do not agree. This is meant to rattle the trunk for white boyz. Honkin' good if I don't say so myself. |

| World Cabaret (Globetrotting Mix Take 01) by The_VoxMan | 2 years ago |
| Nothing North African here by intent. I do like a lot of interesting percussion since I am a failed drummer. Most of the influences on this part of the world trek were Cuban, Irish, Highland, Asian and some Brazilian influences in percussion. That's most of the globe as far as this piece could take on. I never thought I would make music like this and am excited to hear what the next musical adventure will have me doing. I really want to start doing my own music but have yet to get the mixer and the patchbay connected to the G5. I am doing little things like this for now to keep myself interested. Thanks again to one and all for stopping by. I still have nobody stepping up for words at this time so I guess it might be up to me to finish it. |

![]() I must agree with the Joy Division take on this but it is it's own thing and quite good at that. I only gave 4 stars on production because I wanted to hear the drums higher in the mix and it could stand to be tweaked to be louder at points. It sounds as if you are singing over the track instead of interacting with it. Okay, yeah, it's a demo, I get that. Sorry. I do like this one and hope you continue to work it over. Keep it up, dude! |

| Beatbox Blues by The_VoxMan | 2 years ago |
| Thanks again one and all for stopping by and letting me in on your take on this thing. I do regret that we did not make a recording of this with Greg on the drums but in some ways I really don't miss it in this version. Playing live with a drummer, as most of you already know, is an artful balance of all the players and when it works the results are always unnoticeable. The drummer is guy in the band that seems to get the least creds. It can make them act out in strange ways. Whoe(?) and pain and suffering to anyone that tried to make it as a band without a drummer, at least that was the scene at the time when we were doing this stuff. Fortunately, since then we have had techno and industrial and a lot of house music made with artificial drums. These folks get to call themselves musicians, right? Damn, even The Sisters of Mercy started out with a beatbox. So I would make no apologies in this day and age for not having a drummer in my ensemble. I have found a few more than many of the most I have met to be cranky people off stage and prone to drinking a bit too much. Jazz drummers, on the other hand, are the greatest and coolest cats in the world. I am happy to see that this one got so many listens and if you like this one then take a listen to "Flogging The Bishop". That one has Greg on the drums and a bass player sitting in on loan from his services as an EMT. Next up ... my collab with Doctor Zinc. Please stand by.... |

| Well, it is like I said in a private conversation with a very creative soul, they seem to like the silly songs the best. Pete Townsend also expressed his "distress" in this way when songs like "Boris The Spider" (written by John Entwistle) became requested favorites over Pete's songs. Pete's response was to write "Squeeze Box". Glad some folks like this take. I almost did not put it up since it is not really the kind of thing I do everyday but I took a chance when that good old soul told me that it would be a hoot. Maybe not in those words. As ever, dudes and dudettes, thanks for stopping by. I sure do 'prechiate it! Yehaw!!! |

![]() Spot on performance by the band and a nice take on the vox. Dudes, you hit it just right! I generally don't like remakes but this one came out worthy. Only suggestion I could give for a more authentic sound on the voice is to sing into a toilet. That is how they got the natural reverb on the original track. By the way, Densmore played his kit in a stairwell. |

| RBG & DPP - Buried Alive (2010 Big Mix) by The_VoxMan | 2 years ago |
| I recently received info on a program named Cubase from another sound artist on the site and am going to run this one through that program. Apparently, there are more filters and things for tweaking waveform files. I don't know when I will be able to get back to this one since I am learning another program for audio editing at this time and I must admit that my learning curve with all these complicated programs has somewhat diminished over the last few months as I have taken on more projects. It only gets more complicated from here on so I had better find a way to take on several things at the same time. I am currently the only guy in town doing this stuff so there is no popping in on someone in the area for a tutorial. If not for the few tricks and pointers some nice people here have been good enough to throw my way I would be still working on a PC. I do but Mac has become my new buddy for audio work. Simple as it is it still needs full attention. That said, Cubase turns out to be a PC based program, which is nice since all of my audio that has been uploaded to this site is on that machine and Mac seems to want to do it's own thing with file formatting. Heavy sigh. Well, sorry to have turned this into a tekkie rant. I can move on from this point if anyone has a PDF version of the directions for the iLife 06 GarageBand program. Just contact me through this forum and we can go from there. As ever, LunaBleu, thanks for stopping by with a singularly unique take on my works. I never heard it quite like that but, yes, I am also a big Jim imitater at times and sometimes that just comes through. Eastern sound? Hmm? Maybe I will be big in Japan someday, yes? "Godzilla Penis" says so. I do listen to a lot a music from all over the world and have taken influences from Indian raga, Irish drone guitar, Middle Eastern sounds and tones like Robert Plant seems to use so well in his stuff, metal, folk music, power pop, maybe some African and yes, I do love me some Asian music. There it is. Not the full catalog since I am building over the ruins of a mind that once knew so much it had to forget a lot to make room for new things and influences. This is why I am listening to a lot of Trip-Hop, Moby & Gorillaz these days. Nonetheless, it is good to know that I have a "sound." I always wondered what that irritating noise was. |

| Thanks, Luna! I can not take creds for the lyrics. Those were written by Scott Shelby and I only interpreted them. He never got to hear this piece this way. We only played it a couple of times together with him singing it and he took a sound more like the singer in The Church. As far as mixing. There was not any. It came up raw and all I did was add some reverb and EQ out a lot of artifacts to give it more punch and a set of teeth. I will be redoing this one later this year and for now this is all it is. Again, thanks for stopping by and I love the new avatar under your name up there. Very cool and expressive. Like you. |

I always have a story about the music I have made and hope that even if the track is somewhat mediocre then maybe the listener might be interested in the back story rather than totally pass it by with a hmmph and away. I have enjoyed my creative sessions with others and as a bit of an anthropologist I tend to collect data about things as they happen, whether in actual form or memory. Here, today, I have the opportunity to share the stories of those long gone times while reestablishing myself as an artist. It has been too long and now I am back. By the way ... Look at the photo and tell me I am not an alien. |

| Allo allo, m'dear. Welly welly welly well! At first I had trouble hearing the vocals but knew something wonderful was happening. I read the lyrics and listened along and finally got it. Who wrote the lyrics? I like them very much. Well I know that comparisons are often odious but there is a streak of a Siouxsie Sue approach in this one. Unintentional, I am sure, but it comes through nonetheless when compared to a song like Cities In Dust. I think I may have something written just for you in a few months, maybe sooner if my vacation goes well. I'll be in touch and keep up the good work. You are an inspiration to those of us without the vocal chops. You got 'em, baby. Keep a good thing going! Live Long & Prosper, Professor Donald Paul Polk "We are the music makers. | Okay, big mistake here. This is actually two songs together. Need to break them apart. Too much bass! Listen for a better one soon. Thanks for listening. | |

| Godzilla Penis by The_VoxMan | 2 years ago |
| I hope you enjoy the new art. It took about 30 minutes and was super fun. Note the lack of Kong's dong. What's up with that? I mean, literally! Do Gorilla male genitals retract as a survival trait or is this big bad *** of a monkey more Japanese than Godzilla? Any insights? |

| Announcer & Production Demo (Cross Market Demo) by The_VoxMan | 2 years ago |
| Okay, first up. This was meant to be archived immediately and those of you with RSS feeds just managed to sneak in and take a listen. Thanks for the positive feedback. As for the "lame" stuff -- if one is going to make that remark then please be a good critic and point at it. Generalities do not help. This is actually two different files stuck together and one of them is going to lose. You sneaky people! Thanks for listening. |

| Jesus Can't Work At Dust & Son Warehouse (2010 Mix) by The_VoxMan | 2 years ago |
| Well, check out the latest about my bro. He is actually the singer on this one and a painful resemblance to Mick Jagger's love child born into this world of men there has never been until him. It's scary! | |
| Amber Sue by brewchugger | 2 years ago |
![]() Very nice one, gents. You sound like some guys I worked with in Southern Illinois. If you get the chance then check out The Woodbox Gang. Similar vibe but you are certainly hauntingly your own thing. Nice one, boys. Keep it up! |

| Attack of The 900 Foot Jesus by The_VoxMan | 2 years ago |
| And would you believe we had never heard of thrash rock and Grunge was a few years away? I guess it was something in the blood of all people trying something different then. Heaven knows what I'll come up with next when I really start to play again. Right now I am back to teaching and this getting me up to scale again. Back then I was fresh from GIT and was very fresh with West Coast influences. Right now I have all of you folks out there for influences. Keep up the good works, everybody, and especially you, pharmakeus! |

| Angst (1990) by The_VoxMan | 2 years ago |
| I thank you kindly, sir. I hope some of the Pink Floyd meets Jane's Addiction came through. It is, nonetheless, it's own thing and stands as a monument to a moment in time when my very ill brother had a good rant recorded for good purpose -- I hope. If you can't take your misery and turn it into art then what is the reason for living in this body at this time? The next time I go over the edge I only hope I have some way of recording it so I can deal with it better than I did before. Thanks again for stopping by and tell all your friends. Cheers! Oh and thanks for the rating. It means a lot coming from an artist of your quality!!! |

| Acoustic Composition #23 by The_VoxMan | 2 years ago |
| You are so right about this. Atmosphere is so very important to a composition. I feel so strongly about this that I am packing a kit of things like incense, candles, red wine and dark chocolate for expositions in a travel kit. Even a motel room can become a fantastic place when you bring along the things that lift up your soul. Thanks for the listen and I'll be checking you out now. Merry meet. Merry part. Merry meet again. |

| Whatever You Want To Call Me by jamesjrn | 2 years ago |
| Like it. How 'bout calling it "You ******* The Camel" after an animal character in the Terry Pratchett Discworld series. Just a thought. Keep up the good work(s). Live Long & Prosper, Professor Donald Paul Polk "We are the music makers. We are the dreamers of dreams . . . ." --Arthur William Edgar O'Shaughnessy-- Hmm. It won't let me write "You ******* The Camel". Prudes! Laters! Moderator edit: Yep, there is a reason we have a profanity filter. This is a family friendly site. |

| Crazy - Organizing Chaos by dirigent | 2 years ago |
![]() I do very much enjoy your stuff. This one had a few elements I did not like so very much. Okay, it sounds like a dominatrix session warming up or that first time one night stand in college kind of female but the neutered male voice puts me off. Given the peppy little thing going on as the soundtrack these voices do not work for me. As ever, a fine effort but not one to my taste. Sorry if this is a bit negative, but as artists we must be honest with each other and encourage one another to grow. I did not say that this is a bad piece, just not to my taste and the problem is with the female and neutered voice. Perhaps if the music were darker it would work better. Keep up the good work! |

| National Guitar Blues [Old Time Mix] by pharmakeus | 2 years ago |
| This is where your vocals really shine, mister. Like everyone else here has already said, I really like the sound of the whole thing but I wonder is that really a National Guitar? I don't quite hear it. Keep 'em coming! |
