Jesse, this is my favorite song amongst your many solid originals. I had the privilege of hearing it live with full blown electric guitar riffs and drums, and it had "Jack White" all over it. Repost the studio version when it gets mixed, this one will be on the radio some day, mark my words.

You have a nice unique tone and feel to your tunes -- not afraid to experiment with various vocal keys (this one stretches you), cool the way you find refreshing new templates for your dark tales. I am more of a lyricist than a singer, and your songwriting is rock solid -- keep pouring your soul into your passion and good things will happen.

California Dreaming - Finger-style Guitar Solo by TheTiler 2 years ago
What a gem... very nice tune and the perfect way to start my day. My first experience in your area had me go with a friend to John Muir forest, baby Taylor slung across my back, and we sat in a surreal "coccoon" of leafy canopy hundreds of feet over our heads and a thick layer of soft brush beneath us. We played and sang some Neil Young tunes in perfect natural acoustics and just got lost in the moment. A true "lifegasm", like this wonderful song.

what a cool song! Very deep, love the layers, rich full delivery and leaves you wanting more! Particularly like the horn and percussion, and the mix is superb to keep the vocals riding atop all that instrumentation. From the vocal key change midway through to the arrangement and metering, this must have taken you a long time to build. Tremendous job!

Great tune! Ramona, I just left a comment on your latest song, and I was anxious to hear your voice in a tune where I could hear some "ache" -- this one works really well for me. It's a low register for me, but you have such range and committed throughout. It seems like your favorite genres are more dance music and higher energy pieces -- would really like to hear you tackle some folk pieces and let your voice lead the way.

Clay, as always, love your style and I think you and I have similar tastes in music -- love the mix and vision you had on this one, comes through with flying colors. Keep 'em coming!

I Try Very Hard Not to Care by Naaji 3 years ago
You've got a really nice, balanced tone to your voice -- just starting to listen to your stuff, and this has a certain pop element that is competing with the "funk". My personal tastes run darker, and the pace set with the bass line and drums commits you on this to that genre. I would LOVE to hear a variation stripped down to where you could play with the tempo and add some soul, a little Norah Jones for lack of a better comparison. You may have some tunes along those lines in your playlist, I'm about to find out -- bottom line is that your voice makes we want to hear more. Keep 'em coming!

THE NEW TASTE OF LIFE by EvilFactman 3 years ago
This tune has a nice edge to it. My first thought was that on a tune like this, the female vox usually has more "broken glass" in it -- after about 60 seconds, I fell in love with the clean and pure sound in her voice, great contrast with the distortion later in the song. Just the right amount of B-52's while keeping it's unique style. Home run.

The Ghost of Tom Joad (Bruce Springsteen Cover) by Audiogasm 3 years ago
Very well done. I am a huge Springsteen fan and, K6 -- let me encourage you to give him a closer look. I think he gets a bad wrap for all of the pop junk that made him rich, but he is a true songwriter at heart and his lyrics are so rich. They are simple and often missed. "Born in the USA", which is played at every patriot event, is one of the most anti-American tunes written! People want to tap their feet and often are too lazy to find the real nuggets of gold in his music.

Audio, nice take on this piece, tons of heart, and thanks for helping to promote one of my favorite artists!

so much has been said (by myself included) about your tremendous guitar playing. It is a true joy to just sit and listen to your work. On this piece in particular, I have a new appreciation for your timing -- as perfect as your notes are, there's an importance to the spaces between that is often overlooked. This song takes you on a ride that is so comforting and carefree... what a treat!

Boris & Natasha, Boston, 1992 by ccotenh 3 years ago
first of all, tremendous concept!!! Really cool lyrics and vocal delivery. The only thing I'm not sure of is the chord progression, would have liked to heard a couple of minor chords in there to wrap your voice around and maybe drive home their despair a bit, but that's a minor point. Love the whistling. "Take the table furthest from the bar..." -- really solid songwriting, anxious to hear more of your stuff!

We Better Have It Now by UncletupeloFan 3 years ago
Thanks to all of you for your very kind words! Coming from this group, that is high praise and very humbling.

The recurring theme of "better have it now" is inspired by the scene in Schindler's List where Liam Neison (sp?) tells Ben Kingsley that someday this will all be over and they'll have a drink together. The Nazi's are "cleaning up all the loose ends", and Ben says something to effect of "we better have that drink now" and a tear runs down his cheek as he says it. Great actor, great scene, inspired this song to a degree.

One other comment that I want to make -- Jesus was asked what is the greatest commandment, and after "loving God", it was to "love your neighbor." His disciples immediately asked "but who is my neighbor?" To anyone listening to this song, the guy in this song is your neighbor. We have to look out for one another!

Great start to my Monday morning, now I can switch to decaf! Very compelling piece. My daughter is working on her singing, and I passed on the advice of "putting yourself into the song" -- believing and delivering the lyrics as they are written. Such a big fan of your original work and your choices of "choice" covers -- you always take us there, and "there" is always a place that we see in a new light with your gentle delivery. Reading between the lines, it seems like you're coming out of rough patch of late. I, for one, appreciate your artist's heart displayed vulnerably upon your sleeve, shining tail lights on potholes you've hit in the hopes that we might dodge them ourselves.

Great interpretation of this tune! I first heard it done by Fiddle Fever, with the great Russ Berenberg (sp?) on guitar. You've got great pacing on this and you maintain the balance very well... the Irish overtones make me want to pour a little Jamison's and give it another listen.

Very nicely done. Lots of heart, great template, has a pure and simple vibe that really packs a punch. Richard Shindell does a great tune called "Wisteria", where he's sitting in front of the first house that he owned with his wife, reminiscing -- this reminds me of that in some ways.

Looking forward to hearing more from you!

Erik, you did a great job on this as I knew you would! Your voice and style really lends itself to the mood of this poem. I understand the need to move the "icebergs" lines up to create the four line bridge. My vision of this was of a man drifting on a sailboat, lost at sea, happy one moment (fingers lazily drifting beneath the surface), fearful the next moment. Ain't love grand?

You nailed it, my friend -- thanks so much for tackling this and bringing it to life!

Apocalyptictronica by BossHook 4 years ago

The thing that really works for me on this one is the "country" element infused primarily through your vocals. This genre for me is usually a little too harsh -- you gave this chili a dollop of sour cream, which I need! I also really loved the lyrics, especially "Guard your soul with gilded soldiers, Stuff your pockets with four leaf clovers."

I also liked the wide range of comments. You know that you're on to something good when people dissect the elements and (for lack of a better term) "invest" in the tune. This one gets under your skin, and you take ownership of it as you listen. It's like a 69 Barracuda that you park in a crowd, and everyone can't wait to look under the hood. Style to spare and instant favorite for me.

You have woven a real gem here -- cant wait to hear you add your sparse vocal delivery to this. I have really been drawn this year to Iron and Wine, Joe Purdy, and a handful of other singers who don't need a lot of "filler" -- just a pristine delivery of tempered music with raw, soul-searching lyrics. You are certainly in this category and I love your stuff.

Very cool piece! Did you do the horns? I like the concept of the song and have certainly gone through seasons where I feel at risk of losing myself. I think this same principle is at work when solitary confinement is used as punishment. We are social creatures who have something to say and a need to be heard -- being left alone with our thoughts really shows our frailty, and ultimately our need for redemption in my opinion. Thanks for sharing.

So much heart, this is a very sensual song and I really liked it. Such a sweet consistency to it -- subtle lyrical gems wrapped in a patient, breezy tune and delivered with resolute, dynamic intrigue. I believe that everyone has a story, but not everyone has something to say. Dylan, you have something to say every time I hear you, and your grandmother lived a story that, thanks to you, caused us all to become like your mother -- quiet listeners.
