thx so much, people!

and TheUnheard, you're so very right. Specially in a simpler song-structure context, it's hard to come across with the "perfect" flow, without messing too much with the feel, but keeping the rollerocaster dynamics within smiley

the single/EP and album will be out soon...

btw, added lyrics so you guys can follow them!
zeppelin on fire by VertigoSteps 19 days ago
hey - and thx for the feed.

we obviously avoid all kinds of auto-tuning, as we think it would ruin a sound such as ours and **** up the emotion of the delivery. there are of course vocal effects you can use creatively/aesthetically and we did so on the verses of this song (delay, bit of eq). anyway there are plenty of "clean" parts throughout the album where you get to hear less processed vocals, being that you didn't appreciate it. but it's definetely not meant for masking!

first of all, thx for the words!

just a quick note to address the enunciation aspect. what matters first of all is the music and the feeling conveyed. the lyrics are obviously very important to us - hence its sharing - but this is not spoken word and even in movies and plays some parts are harder to fathom. the lyrics are written and sung by non-natives, though both of us have I believe a solid understanding of the language we chose as main vehicle of expression. so i guess at the end of the day, the feel you get from the music is much more important than one of two words that you had a harder time picking up. we actually understand them, but in case you don't, there's always the written lyrics to recur to. and we're glad some people still take interest to this, since we're not the mambo-jambo-lyrical type smiley

best wishes all!

the porcupine dilemma by VertigoSteps 1 month ago
thx man!

it's actually funny you mentioned Thrice, cause the 1st we ever heard of that band was here on iComp, when someone also compared our 1st single (from our debut...) to said band. Then I looked it up and found to be quite interesting. dunno if so far as any direct influence, but still "the alchemy index" is something I hold in good esteem.

cheers all n'a good 2012!

Nothing At All (demo edit) by VertigoSteps 4 months ago
thank ye, J!

totally agree with you, but in this case it is our regular guest Stein R Sordal (Green Carnation, Soxpan, Sordal, etc) singing. about the production I thank you as well, but it's still only "home-made" pre-production, since we're only entering studio next Thursday for the real deal. But you can try finding Niko whilst in Hela, sure he won't say no to a finn beer or a koskenkorva sip.

Thx a bunch, guys! Twas actually fun (not mentioning fast) to do this and I think its beginning to sound nice even at this early stage.

WC: I can understand the Cult liaison - not unlike GLJ they did a nice mix of both Rock and Gothic.

True thanx for all your words, mates. Solera & Eido in particular, it's rewarding to read such detailed and bright insight on the music one carves from deep inside.

As for the "purchase button" you mentioned, I'm working on it at the moment, so expect news soon! Meanwhile, the official website is now online: www.vertigosteps.com , so do spook around and leave your thoughts.

Nice and solid rock song you've got here, ouzo.

Excellent production indeed; also love the bass-line, vocal melody, background textures and guitar harmonics. Reminds a bit of the A Perfect Circle feel, which is a fine thing of course.

keep it up, welcome!

Fire Eaters by VertigoSteps 3 years ago
Thanx for the preoccupation, but the album is terminated and there's no real need for any remix: its fully intentional, balanced and everyone else can listen to everything very clearly and in full power and feel. Additionally, the
"voices-drowning-everything" concept is really more suited to Pop music anyway...

The Swarming Process by VertigoSteps 3 years ago
Cheers all. Now addressing some of the questions raised:

Solera: full lyrics now shared online at iComp. Sounds better on stereo, too smiley
The leads were largely improvised, yet I firmly believe that in order for a solo to be special, it has to hit the right notes, emotionally related to the music and not fast-fret yanking, so it's nice that you have noticed this!

Eido: thx for your views. The chorus dissonance was fully intentional, in my view it's definitely an integral layer for the desired environment.

Album Teaser II by VertigoSteps 3 years ago
Thx again for your feedback mates!

solera: got it right, Green Carnation is probably the first band mentioned here that I could see as an influence and one which I enjoy thoroughly! And regarding that song - "Synapse (sleepwalking metaphorms)", the association could well come from the guy singing it: Stein R Sordal, bass-player/ co-singer of the late Green Carnation. smiley

About "I of the Storm", the other track you mentioned, it's partially sung in Portuguese, my native language. Singer is Rui Viegas, who participates in 3 album tracks and was already the singer in Arcane Wisdom (an earlier act).

saluts!
