Biography

Who are we?

We are BitterSweet - a handful of kids from suburban Minneapolis. Most of us graduated from high school in 1971-1973. Ages on these recording ranged from about 15 to 19 years of age.

We are currently going on 55-60 years old... and we want to share the music we made 40 years ago.

These recordings are 100% analog. They were recorded on a reel-to-reel tape then copied to analog cassette tape, then copied to a CD.

We all loved music - not the stuff on the radio. We loved that stuff which many now call "Progressive Rock". ELP, Yes, Flash, Triumvirat, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, The Nice,... if you don't know them, don't ask.

Bittersweet was different. We didn't play top forty or oldie music. WE WROTE our own top forty and oldie music. We told the people "here's our latest tune on the charts" or "here's an oldie for you boppers" and they loved our tunes.. and they believed it because we gave them the style they were expecting.

If you listen closely to our tunes here, you may hear some amp noise and hum. We got reverb by placing a mic in the bathroom (quick echo/verb) or firing a speaker down the hall, up the stairs and to the mic pointed at a glass window (slap/delay/doubling effect). That is how we got our sound here. No electronics- mother natures special effects!

Most of our tunes are recorded LIVE.... our motto is if you cant make it sound as good live as you can in the studio, the hire a DJ or Milli Vanilli.

We traveled thousands of miles in in an old School Bus which we (sort of) converted for travel. 8-track player played thru a pair of Altec "Voice of the Theater" speakers. Seats from an old Greyhound Bus, cooler for "the beverages". Lots of Zap Comix (go Mr. Natural!). Boones Farm. Ripple and Annie Green Springs wine. MD-2020. Zapple. Silver Satin. Sloe Gin. Thousands of Old Gold and Marlboro Cigarettes. Gallons of Coffee. Cases of Diet Rite and Diet RC Cola, Repeat as needed, as needed, as needed....

These recordings are 40 years old. Enjoy!!

Thanks - PEACE OUT!
