![]() Ha! That was goooood! Listening to this one sent shivers down my spine! I find that there's a lot of dimension and richness to your sound; and there is a spontaneous quality in the interpretation... The only thing I did not appreciate was the flat drum/percussion at the very beginning... Great job! |

Wow! This assessment is harsh--like my piano playing, apparently! I always appreciate constructive criticism but have to disagree here with my friend Jeangiroux on at least two points... (1) I do provide constant loudness with the church organ, and (2) I fail to see why he thinks this piece *could justify its own scary movie* as the overall tone is rather peaceful and introspective--not morbid at all... Anyway, thanks for listening,Alain |

![]() Simon, I always knew you had tremendous talent and this piece proves it! Very Techno--not my favorite genre, but very well handled here, with warm and deep sound, excellent ryhthm, some melody (a bit repetitive?), overall good structure but the ending it rather abrupt, no? I am being critical, but just sending you flowers will not help you improve! Great job, please keep the good work and try (if you feel up to it) classical instruments... Alain |

| Thanks Jean--yes, I do tend to overuse strings and underuse guitars... Point well taken, thanks for your support... still waiting for your own icomposition, indeed! Alain |

| Thanks guys for your constructive comments—especially Jeangiroux, for detecting evolution in my work, that’s encouraging! One thing I find irritating though is criticism about instruments’ sound. We are all using GarageBand, if I’m not mistaken (JamPack 4 in the target composition), and we are all fully aware that while most instruments sound remarkably realistic, some do not. I personally think that the French horns and trumpets in my composition sound OK. Some of you obviously don’t, and that OK too. But the composer should not be “blamed” for those perceived limitations... | |

| Thanks to all of you guys for so much support and positive comments! It's funny, I composed this piece in less than 2 hours and it turned out pretty good, whereas I did spent a month or more working on other compositions with less inspiring results! Sebastien and cjhoose: to answer your question--I always start with some basic chords (e.g., 2 cellos), add some "action" (1 cello), and then, IF the chords are good, simple enough and original (the hard part), then the main theme is very easy to come up with... I use GarageBand JamPack 4, Xtra Cello Sect (pizz, legato, or tremolo) for all cellos, and play a lot with velocity... (not too high!) Hope this helps! Thanks again to all, Alain PS: Ursu: I too am a cellist, but I used the aforementioned software... I intend to redo this piece with my real cello... |

![]() Splendid! Complex, atmospheric, intelligent... Your piece reminded me a bit of John Carpenter's score for Village of the dammed... Beautiful instrumentation and nice development toward the middle/end.. Love the French horns... |
