Wonderful! It's all great, but the bridge and solo are particularly masterful. And I love the 'guest' vocalist bits. You're wicked!

I love that song and you DEFINITELY have done it justice. Here I was expecting a Split Enz or Crowded House cover but, ever trompe-ing le Monde, you break out the ol' Squeeze. Thanks for keeping us on our collective toes.

Tremendous piece of music. Listening to it is like discovering a missing Jefferson Airplane/Starship track. It's all good, but those vocals are particularly impressive. I can't really find any element to criticize, constructively or otherwise.

Great song. Love that poppin' rumblin' bass! By the end it takes on a very 'man who sold the world' era Bowie-like sound, but with that unique JHarley twist. Keep up the good work!

Great song! Sounds very pro quality to me. Every element is great. The tone of that slashing rhythm guitar is so crisp and yet full. Is that your new guitar? Great bends on that solo, too. (Do I hear a bit of Chisel influence here?) Awesome.

Wasn't Life Easy 'The Video by alanatomic 6 years ago
5

Whoa. I don't know how you did this, but it's pretty fabulous. Already a fan of my good man theGranz -I really like the swirly psychedelic stuff you did in the vid that complements his sound so nicely. I notice that some stuff repeats throughout, which is fine, I just thought I'd make this comment: if you are going to be doing any tweaking, the effect I found particularly gratifying and would like to see more of was the bit at, say about 30 seconds into it, where the background goes yellow and you take the natural gyration of the dancer and keep her twisting 'till she kaleidoscopes. If you could do this type of "psychedelic extension" at the end of each of the dancing girl segments, I think you would have an interesting motif around which to base the video, allowing you to avoid perceptions of gratuitous sexiness.
Just my two cents. Anyway, great stuff!

Hey thanks, Bob6. Good to hear from ya. Such kind words. I could pump up the vocals, but I have a tendency to keep them just at the level of embarrassment at hearing my own voice. Maybe that's why one gets a producer.. Anyway, thanks.

Beautiful music. Makes me feel like I'm at a campfire, which is funny, since my most recent song takes place at a campfire. I always dig your sensibility or whatever -the pretty, yet slightly discordant, dreamy kind of sound you create. Thanks, tsunami Dave, thanks Dylan.

Art, this was actually a quickie. Not a quickie by some standards, but.. I did the music in one afternoon and the words the next. It could undoubtedly use some tweaking, but I just decided to put it out 'as is' rather than trying to perfect it.

Still just stumbling along in the world of songsmithery.

Interesting piece. It does have that busy, Phillip Glass-style, sped up escalators with people going to work in Tokyo soundtrack thing going on. All the elements go together quite nicely. Another little gem from the Ponkster! Pretty piano, great guitar (that rotary effect sounded great on the solo) and sweet singin'. By the way, I don't know if you meant this tongue in cheek, but in jkane's and my neck of the woods at least, a sausage fest is a term in the local vernacular used as to express one's disappointment, upon arrival at a party, for example, with the presence of an inordinate number of males, and no prospects for a 'chat up' or a 'pull', if I may attempt a bit of your local slang.. so if you're over this way, careful what you wish for.

Hiya Ponk! Glad to hear some new material from ya. And a pretty tune, too. I felt it could have gone on a bit longer. Would you consider writing a couple more verses? It stands as it is, of course, but the story deserves to be fleshed-out a bit. I always kinda thought Garcia Marquez popularized (dumbed down) Borges' genre, by the way, although I enjoy both. Guess I ought to check out Bulgakov. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

flute salad by Stun_Nutz 6 years ago
5

Great use of the musical typing option. It really sounds like improvised flute.
The subtle use of the real flute sampled from the 'rudimentary love chant' (bad attempt at translation) works nicely to heighten the effect. It's neat too, the way you change the effects treatment of the flute which for a bit kinda reminded me of Miles D's trumpet through a wah wah pedal he did in that 70's fusion stuff, and then finally goes so far as to sound like bagpipes! My kilt was startin' to ride up a little there! Which leads me to suggest an alternate title: "that's no way to treat a flute"

Tucson, France by anDroidfrisBee 6 years ago
Thanks everyone for commenting. Pharmakeus: I totally agree, but the thing was, I got these drums and bass in one track from longshot and in the beginning it was pretty much completely an exercise in reverb -trying to get enough reverb into my guitar parts to make it match up with his drumming and bassing track which was unbelievably reverb-y, mainly I think because these really were live drums recorded in a room. That kind of reverb is legit, right? Anyway, I may have gone too far, I'll go over it again and see if I can reduce reverb on anything. I think Dylan's vocals are actually set on zero reverb, but. Hmm, is there any way to reduce reverb besides the reverb slider (which is on zero) by the way? Like with compression or something? Anyway, I'll look into it..

Thanks pharm, yeah it's supposed to be bluesy, but I lost count of the bars a few times, which 'caused me to start firing guns off all over the place, which 'caused the cops to come after me, etc. etc. I don't know what a KRK_8 setup is, but it sounds neat.

Thanks theGranz! I know the scenario you describe well - I often ride my bicycle to work and it's like road warriors out there. I never thought I'd get road rage on a bike, but I get it like 14 times a day in this town! This tune is attempting to describe a more peaceful, early morning before the traffic starts vibe. As you point out, that'll last about a new york minute.

Thanks artneuro! You're right, that double bass loop was the whole foundation of the track previously and I worked really hard to try to recreate it with an electric bass and a software double bass, but I couldn't get it to sound as good as the loop. Somehow, though, I always felt that loop was a bit of a cheat, so... now I can say I'm playing everything on there -guitars, piano, vibes and bass.
Misguided perhaps, and I do miss that nice sounding loop too, but..
