Biography
gb beginner, songwriter.
I've been singing all my life, when I was 4 years old, I woke up my brothers in the middle of the night singing tunes my older sister used to play on her record player the day before.
at the age of ten or so, rock'n roll came into my life and I sang along with the melodies coming out of the radio and I remember always having preferred singing the harmony vocals . . . I also remember, I didn't like most of this charts-stuff (and still don't), there were only a few bands, beatles, stones of course, udo lindenberg from germany, later led zeppelin, animals . . yes later! it wasn't easy to hear fine music in austria depending primarily on only ONE radiostation (deciding what people should hear or not) or on useless record collections of older brothers, so I sometimes discovered great bands many years later when they were long gone already . . .
some years later I found myself playing in a terrible rock'n roll band with a terrible singer, a terrible drummer, a terrible bassplayer and a most terrible guitar player, me. what we had, was the feeling, what we not had, was the skills to handle our instruments, what we almost lost, was our souls. so young we were . . .
what I learned from that time was, most important, that making noise is big fun, but also that I am more the studio-guy, the songwriter, but surely no life-musician! that's not my world.
Currently, doing a "normal" office job boring me to death, I still have this love for music in me, still like writing songs, maybe better than earlier. for years I used to write and play these songs only for myself and my cat - though she is always leaving the roon when I start playing . . . and then, not so long ago, garage band came into my life!
meanwhile I prefer writing songs in my own language, german, while in former times most songs I used to write in English. therefore I will add a translation when necessary.
why do I publish my music in here? to satisfy my vanity? definitely! feels good to get positive feedback! feels good when other people like your stuff. to get my personal 15 minutes? surely! to become rich and famous? well, I don't need too much fame, money would be enough!
on this site I find so many people more talented -so why am I doing all this?
because it's fun! because I like this little adventure to start with a few words written in this little black book I always have with me and get a poem in the end, sometimes even a good one! even more, to create - with a little help from garageband - a fine piece of music around these words of mine - whatever the definition of fine is . . .
I am doing this garageband & icompositions thing since a few months only, but here's what I learned so far:
* mixing is not my strongest talent, I'm afraid
* my ibook is fine, but I should have bought a computer with a bigger screen
* garageband eats up my time. even my cat is complaining already . . .
* I don't like genres, because I never know where to put my songs into. why can't anybody create a new genre just called MY MUSIC???
* genres are helpful, because I really don't need to hear every genre when exploring icompositions. sometimes it's hard enough with genres - which of course might as well be true for somebody listening to my music . . .

update Jan. 20, 2007:
12 months after releasing my first attempt in here, I can resume as follows:
I found friends here, I had (and still have) some very interesting and fruitful collaborations, working together with people from all over the world, telling me I'm a good musician and songwriter.
I mean, I knew that already, but it feels so good
Still couldn't say, what's MY genre, still haven't found a home in music. One day I like to rock, doing some Country-stuff the other day, recording a heartbreaking lovesong tomorrow. But that's what it's all about - always keep on walking . . .
