Voices Carry (Til Tuesday cover) version 1 by artist08 3 months ago
You know, switching up words in songs has bothered me - especially watching Idol lately. If a woman decided to change the words to "My Girl" to "My Guy" just because of the whole gender thing I'd puke. It doesn't make any sense coming from a guy's POV anyway even though I'm singing it.

Anyhow - I've been around. I've been golfing a lot since it's been ok out, playing with the kid, etc. I have a hard time FINISHING songs - especially originals! Maybe I need Bernie Taupin. I've got one that you're gonna like, too smiley

It's straight from the board. Direct in - only crowd noise is picked up through our vocal mics, which I have all up on my lips...lol. Then, of course, I tell them "shhhhh, we're recording!"

Live 80's Medley by Groove Clinic! (abridged version) by artist08 2 years ago
Hahaha, Lili. You're silly. I'm debating on whether this sounds good enough to post on our website or not.
Live 80's Medley by Groove Clinic! (abridged version) by artist08 2 years ago
Everything that you're hearing was recorded live through the soundboard. The drummer had been complaining that he couldn't hear himself all night. Obviously, he was coming through the front loud and clear, but when you think that you have to yell to be heard...I think we all know what happens. Different songs sound better on different nights, everything sounds better when you've been drinking. Hahaha.

The Best Tonight (version 2) by artist08 2 years ago
Lyrics:

Hey there little lady, why do you look so blue?
I think I have just the thing to get you in the mood
I've got a 40 in this wrinkled paper bag
If that don't do the trick I'll try this chloroform rag
And I won't feel sorry for you as you make your walk of shame
while bathing in the morning light

I may not be the best, but I'm the best you're gonna get tonight

No one else in the room will even look your way,
but I'll still let you spend the night all the same
Your fragile self-esteem has made you feel unsure
So let me point out all your flaws until you have no more
and let's be honest...no one's beatin' down your door
You're not real slim, but that's alright

I may not be the best...

And I'm no prize, but I'll make love to ya just the same
I ain't got no foolish pride
It ain't no crime to let me lay some pipe
Let me take you for a ride!

Ok, sweetie, please don't think me rude
All I ever wanted was to take some tasteful nudes
So there's a hidden camera underneath my half-made bed,
but I don't find it impolite

I may not be the best, but I'm the best you're gonna get tonight!

Moistulation (version 2.0) by artist08 2 years ago
The spoken "crowd" part is actually me trying to imitate members of my band. (a lot of inside jokes) Honestly, when I wrote this song I didn't have Prince in mind at all. This is just the type of music that I like. I guess a lot of what you're exposed to is absorbed by osmosis and shows in various ways through your output. My band is recording this song and it will definitely morph into something a bit different w/out me playing all the instruments. I'm looking for more syncopation, etc. This was not recorded with GB, but with a digital multitracker so I didn't have the Bob George voice - it was supposed to be a robot smiley I'm going to upload one of my country songs next - don't say it sounds like Prince! Hahaha.
Why Do You Have To Give Your Love Away (For Free)? by artist08 2 years ago
BUT, if this was on Emancipation it would've been totally OVERPRODUCED with some whack Kirky J drum beats. Hahaha. I'm glad someone will get this reference.
Obligitory Sex Ballad by artist08 2 years ago
Ahhh...you know your stuff, Julian. This song and Rub My Pants were both originally meant for compilations for the Prince.org website, thus...well, you can hear it. This was meant as more as a tribute/spoof a la "Debra" by Beck. All tongue in cheek, both with silly lyrics - not taking myself too seriously here.
Hedonist Confidential by artist08 2 years ago
There's another version with live drums on it, but it's not at my house, but at my bandmate's studio! Perhaps I'll have more after next weekend?
