Thanks everyone.
I had two goes at assembling this before I got to handing something to Dave. That middle free-form section was just impossible to duplicate as a feel so I opted to go a bit more 'World' with it - partly influenced by Dread Zep but also the Page Plant album and those World Musicians on it.
As you can see Dave did a magnificent job with his vocals. Hats off to him, I just think it's the most splendiferous thing that he can sing like that. Somebody please tell me why *he* isn't a star!
The Guitar parts were done on a Strat which is one guitar you don't associate with Mr. Page.
I wanted it to have more slinkiness to give it a different feel - a humbucker would have made it just another Zep tribute. Maybe it still is.
Anyway, thanks to all who tuned in and left such nice comments. It's deeply appreciated. |

Thank you everybody for your thoughtful comments.
I think the duty of anybody doing creative stuff in the arts is to intersect with the world at some point and say what we think and feel. It feels like galaxies away to be sitting around playing music into my computer knowing there are legions of people suffering intolerable oppression out there. I figure I can't do much beyond voting or expressing but in so doing I can voice my cognitive dissonance.
The failure of politics is one thing, but there is also the failure of the International community to show a bit of spine. On any ethical consideration, Myanmar's Junta shouldn't be allowed to block humanitarian aid coming into it's own country, but we keep going 'Soveriegn nation!' and letting them do what they do. That part of it is a real blight on our conscience, I feel.
MIR - it's right that you should find the trumpets somewhat humorous. I meant it as irony of glorifying militarism when all the carnage and chaos was going on. The ghost voices on the end are meant to be the voices of the dead, but they are displaced and endlessly repeating on a tape-delay. Which is essentially what happens. The same tragedy over and over again around the world, just different people, different circumstances but the same bloody outcomes.

EDIT: Just noticed the rest of my text was swallowed into the inter-ether. This track is based on a song I used to perform way back when. We used to start it off with a quick "this song is about Otters. Do you know what Otters are?" which was a short-hand for the dialogue, but nobody ever got it was a reference to the Voight-Kampf test in Blade Runner'. So this version incorporates the full *thing*. |
