Think loops are useless/not original? ...NOT EVEN.

So many of my songs were done with ONLY LOOPS. Check out these examples, and then start cutting, effecting, and generally messing with LOOPS. √

Don't be bashful if you don't have an audio interface, keyboard, guitar, mic etc., etc. If you've got a DAW and a pile of loops (many of which are free right here in the 'Members Only' area), you can have a blast being creative. (Just a little push for any newcomers, or whomever.)

Oh yeah, the links above were all done when Garageband was relatively new—like when lots of the now available loops... weren't available.

Have fun and message me your new "loophits".

I've done songs using only loops, I've done songs using a few loops and I've done songs not using any loops, so I've been through the whole business. There are quite a few I believe that use drum loops (myself included) and they don't have a drum machine or a keyboard with the extra keys on to play percussion with. Some just get confused trying to put the whole drum kit together and make it sound good.

Sometimes trying to do a song using only loops can be more challenging than doing a song that a person has written themselves. You can find the right loop only to have it not sound as good when it gets transposed to the key you are working in. The DAWs are pretty good at doing their job when it comes to this but sometimes the key change or the timing just doesn't work out right.

For some who aren't musically inclined or who have not had the opportunity of playing a musical instrument, the loops and a good DAW can provide a pleasant and satisfying experience.

We have quite a diverse group here on iCompositions going from those who haven't studied music to those who have a music degree. Some people on here are connected with recording studios but their expertise is in the recording end of the music. Still they get a pleasure doing their own songs when they can.

As it is, this just happened to catch my eye while I was posting my own song using mostly loops. Another song I did using some loops was one called The Cantina" in which the entire guitar part was done with loops.

Using loops or not usually seems to bring up a pretty good discussion among the members, so I'll be anxious to see if this does the same thing.

Diversity is great!

I appreciate the insight.

I've been trying to find simple drum loops and feel that I've failed miserably in my attempt to use them.

Let's keep this discussion going smiley

I couldn't agree more - though I am also one who feels people should try and push themselves to do things without loops. What I like most is having the tools I need to do whatever I feel like doing at the moment I feel like doing it. smiley

@Lapskin - have you played with the live looping features in the latest GarageBand? They aren't half bad. It's fun to watch all of the various companies push each other to greater feats of generosity within their software offerings!
