There's a song by Metric where the singer sings a half step below the 'correct' note. You've done something like that here a few times and I like it. Quite a bold, yet subtle technique. And, the Revlon commercial ending hit the spot.

You really hit the nail with these lyrics and the music is great. For me, the vocal is a little to loud in the mix. I'd like to hear the music punch through a little more. Of course, that's only an opinion, and sometimes I'm guilty of the opposite. Great writing man, keep it up.

Futurishly hip. This is a trippy piece with so much cool stuff I had to shut my eyes. What a creative sound sculpture man. I really like it. That synth rif in the second half is super. There's so much going on but I think I would like to hear a little more of something on the low end.

I had to wait to comment because I didn't have my custom KILLER headphones with me. Someone was kind enough to FedEx them on up and I've just had a loud listen. Pretty fine stuff - just the way I like to hear covers done - raucous, loud, and all junked up. Perfect. By the way, this is one of the all time best ever hits.

Something to Do (A Gnarled Depeche Mode Cover) by PowerMatt 2 months ago
Nice big helping of attitude PowerMatt! Never heard the original, but this version fully boots the posterior. This particular track has a cool and (yes) gnarly 'solo artist' sound. You gonna front the new band? Hope so - you should. I think with a few backing vocs, a strikingly loud sound system, and a lot of jumping around the stage, a band with this kind of sound will conquer the clubs quickly.

Goats head by Dustwood 2 months ago
Not unlike the whole goathead thing, this song is fairly scary. The background choir/keyboards stuff really gives it an eerie feeling and the repetitive cymbal smash makes the whole thing really tense. Reminds me a little of pre fame Nirvana.

Good grief! This song is happening. "Difficult with all these difficult people" < that sounds so cool! Unreal. I love the whole thing.

I especially like the way your vocals sound on this - kind of choppy with very slick production, and those clanking, organic percussion sounds mixed with the synths totally make it cook. You rock.

Your description pulled me right in, and I'm glad it did. This sounds freakin' great up really loud in phones and those semi off notes are totally inspired. The whole song is exceptional - one of the best I've heard here in a long time. For me, this is a truly 5 star piece. The guitar tones have a cool 'real' sound and the synth/bass break is perfect. Any chance of adding vocs?

5

Wow! Except for a few complaints I have, this is really, really good. Your voice is righteous man. The backing vocs sound great too. I especially dig the high 'Kansas' style thing you did right before the break. What did you do for drums? If those are loops, you must have got the Keith Moon pack or something - 'cause they're hot, and your guitar tones and playing are totally right on.

That clipping and cutting out really takes away though. What caused that? Also, I think your main vocal would sound a lot better in the mix if it wasn't completely panned to the left.

That stuff said, you really did a nice job recording the individual instruments and vocals, and the middle part just kicks.

I'm going to be checking out your other music.

Well, you know what I think about horn lines. That said [again and again], you DO have some nice long horn 'chords' that sound really smooth. Also, very interesting use of the basses. That super low thing is sweet. When the beat double times, the bass lines start to cook. In fact, I like that whole last half the best. I will say though that the melody line synth thing sounds a little too eerie or something and could have been more interesting - 'course, that's just me right?

Standards & Measures by Neumuzik 4 months ago
I don't know exactly how to put this, but it sounds like you're playing some of the instruments in slightly different keys, or possibly in minor and major keys. Hard to say. Something weird like that though. Hmmmm. Still, I kind of like it. There's a happy / mentally unstable thing going on that's hard to pinpoint.

I feel like if the song were a person, that person would have a confused look on his face and people walking in the opposite direction would have concerned looks on their faces. For a minute there I thought I saw myself in the mirror.

Quite the happy go lucky conglomeration. Sounds like you cleaned your room and threw all the shoes you used to wear into separate tracks in Logic, then added a few chocolate popsicles and an old clock radio. No wait... I think I hear something like an SE30 falling down a pipe into some kind of bin for used turpentine. Yeah that's it. Plus there's that obvious sheen you must have got from rubbing two tires together until they caught fire and melted into an Apple TV ad turned up to 12 on an old set being towed behind a Corvair while the driver was reading something by Ayn Rand. Furniture polish? Of course I drink it.

Hey,

Just got a new pair of good headphones so I turned the volume all the way up and punched the arrow on this song. ...OH YEAH!. Superb stuff. Nice drums, guitar splats, and of course, lyrics. I also dig the extreme radio static sound.

Lots of nifty stuff goin' on here to keep it interesting. Comes across just a tad odd too, (by the way). Perfect for my iPod alarm clock / late morning wake up, and probably pretty dang good for bugging the neighbors too, but I'll have to loose the headset for that. Should be fun.

I've been gone and haven't checked in here for some time now. Good thing I dropped by because I might have missed this fine piece of work. Such clean, crisp production—and the change where the Wurlitzer sound comes in is amazing and beautiful. Wow. That took me back to someplace long ago. Mid 60s maybe. Jamo did a really nice job with the playing and production in this. The thick bass with the percussive twinkly sounds really made me sit up and pay attention. Cool stuff.

Sometimes it's hard for me to comprehend how utterly freakin' hip that genius of a borris is. Ohter times though, I can see through him like a Christmas story in Reader's Digest. I'm not sure if he's doing that transparent thing on purpose though just to through us off. Good grief, have you ever seen his hair? Unreal! I heard that his own mom won't go to the supermarket with him. Then again...and I guess there's always a then again thing, I was at a party after a showing at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and the dude was wearing a full on tuxedo, Beatle boots and he had just been to Super Cuts. They say he's two people in one because of his depression and his manicness, but I think he just wishes he was back on tour with Bonnie Bramlet and could still use his right hand. Hmmmm. Guess we'll never know for sure. ()

ECT by borris 1 year ago
DiLeoMJ: I was being asked to get Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), also known as electroshock because I was so freakin' depressed and it seemed that no legal medication would bring me out. Those around me thought ECT was the best idea at the time. I kept saying "no way" as in 'how many times...etc.'. The part about God is kind of sad, but typical I guess with some who are seriously depressed. You get so down that you actually don't want to get better. So I'm saying that if God himself had the answer that would make me totally better (and by the way, I'm sure he does), and offered it to me on a plate, I wouldn't even want to eat it...even though I know I'd be instantly better. It's a weird way to think but there doesn't seem to be any way to change my mind at the time. So, the song's all about the way I think when I'm way down there low. The song isn't about going against God, but when you're depressed, sometimes you just don't want his help.
