Thanks A1, all great comments. Ya, funny about the loops thing, sometimes I get stuck in a loop live, but i's live ya know, so when is a loop not a loop? Especially appreciate the comment about balance and I agree, I love the way this sounds through surround or some killer headphones. Thanks for the listen and the great comments.

You have the makings of a fine piece of work here. I like it, your voice has a great sound, the production is well done, you were able to make it feel like something without over working it, and it's even got a little Laurie Anderson vibe to it. All good, let's have another one.

BTMC_FCAS03 by btransue 6 years ago
Nice that it is still around, I will agree. It's sort of a big job to transfer it all to digital, but it's time, so I knock off a chunk here and there. I have some 400 tapes in storage...music with me and friends. Of course, it's not all good, so you have to go through quite a lot to get the bits that are worth transferring. Unfortuanately, most of the pieces are also quite long, averaging 30 mins or more, and they can;t realistically be uploaded here.
Thanks for the listen and comments Z...If you get a chance, check out a recent upload hee...Alzie's Garage.

"Like one big loop family"...totally dig that. Well...and the "ELP" reference...oh ya, big ELP fan from way back. Guess maybe all that funk I listened to in the 70's is still bouncing around in the recesses of my brain as well.
This was actually a very fun piece for me to throw together...just using some common loops, but chopping and dicing them up a bit. Thanks for the comments.

Be Undone by btransue 6 years ago
You guys keep this up and I might be forced to try that experiment again.

FYI: The Mic is an MXL 990 I picked up for $59. I'm playing and singing into the same mic about 1 foot away. I actually like this mic better than the ones we have at the station...at least for vocals.

As for the "Folk" category Z...you think I should change it? Maybe just to Alt (is there an Alt category?)

And Vaporman...as far as developing the ideas...I've just never been any good at it. once I get the instrument in my hands I just want to play something new. I really wish I had the discipline that you guys have. Maybe this is the incentive I need to try a bit harder. Thanks to all for the comments, really unexpected. Blaine

UnAltered by btransue 6 years ago
Thank you Lilichi. That's about as nice of a compliment I could hope for. The music definitely paints a picture...at least for me. Actually, Michael and I would always play to a concept. We would first imagine the setting we were playing in, and the scene that was unfolding, and then we would create the music for the imaginary environment that surrounded us at the moment. There were walks through Cambodian nights and trips to Alzheimers garage (where all those lost memories are stored)...and...

Very cool Elder. Thanks for the comment.I'd like to hear some of those old 4 tracks, so you better start digging. I was surprised to find that some of mine from that vintage have no discernable sound on them anymore at all. Seems the planets have a way of realigning the magnetic forces of tape.
Back then...I was listening to a lot of (old) Eno, Laurie Anderson, Robert Fripp, King Crimson, Adrian Belew, Talking Heads, Phillip Glass, John Cage, The Chicago Art Ensemble...to name a few, as well as the folks you mention in your post.

Good times indeed!
Left2Chance by btransue 6 years ago
FE...Michael and I played together for only about 3 years, but in that time we recorded numerous hours of improvisational music. Most of the time, just the way this one was recorded, with a microphone hanging from the ceiling in my living room. It was very cool that we were polar opposites when it came to music. I learned more about playing guitar from him than from anyone else in my life, and he learned from me...that plugging things in wasn't all that bad after all. Michael went on to form a 29 piece folk orchestra in the mountains of Vermont. I went...well...on.

I have to say...I like the way it floats in and out of tempo...like my life, which doesn't run in time. I had to come back, because I listened to it again, and liked it even more the second time. So refreshing to hear music that isn't inspired by the perfection of machines.

Grand Central Remix by btransue 6 years ago
Yohmar...you are more than welcome to add something to this. I would love to see what you do with it.
Here's a bit of what I was thinking when I created the piece.

Grand Central Station, NY, NY:
Such an ominous, unpredictable sort of place. No matter how many times someone passes through that station, there is an uneasiness, an anticipation of both the known and the unknown, a sense of glory and dispair...depth on the edge. Awe mixed with fear mixed with beauty mixed with life, mixed with lust mixed with death. It is a place that attacks your senses, the air permiated with the smell of grease, electricity, sweat, blood, tears, sex, life, death...A giant cavern of emotion where every kind of person is, or has been through time joined with the sounds and rhythms of the trains, the ticking clocks, the clattering feet, the chattering voices, the screeching wheels...A place where amidst the densest crowds or emptiest spaces one can feel absolutely at once...alone, thrilled, terrified, intoxicated...alive.

Grand Central is the giant pumping heart of the city supplying the blood and oxygen of humanity through its veins.
