I could not help but crack up when I was listening and looking at that picture. This music is a cartoon in and of itself. Wonderfully orchestrated and interesting from start to finish. I can enjoy this on a musical/logical level and just as a listener.

Op. 5-Sonata for Oboe-II. Andante by cjdarnieder 2 years ago
"You've outgrown the inherent limitations of this software."

Oh, you're such a charmer. smiley

In all seriousness, after listening to your Serenade last night, I'm starting to agree with you. I DO want to move on to bigger and sonically better things. Money is always my issue, and I know that you suggested Notion to me previously, but is there any less expensive (but almost as good) VST that I can work with?

And as far as the reverb biz goes, I could really go for a suggestion for a good audio mixing/editing software as well. Finale's not the best at that...

But thanks for your comment, soul. I appreciate all of your comments...very much so. smiley

Op. 19-For Alexander McQueen-Trio for English Horn, Violin and Viola by cjdarnieder 2 years ago
Thanks! Happy to see another comment from you, soulima! smiley Yeah, the rendering was iffy to me as well...I'm trying to figure out what's going on...since this usually doesn't turn out so...weird. I'll post a new MP3 with better rendering when I figure out what in the world happened. smiley

I love this! What program did you use?
Op. 10-Symphony No. 1 in F (Family Tree)-II. Adagio teneramente (SKETCH) by cjdarnieder 2 years ago
Thanks for the stars this time...especially because this is a sketch, it's good to get constructive criticism while working on something...I feel like I'm more flexible and opt to change or re-evalute more.

I'm most likely lightening the orchestration during the eng. horn solo...it feels way too heavy. And I've already tackled the atonal chords right before the trombones enter. I wasn't sure how I felt about those either.

The reverb...yeah, still working. Just bought a book called Composing With Finale, and hopefully it will be arriving in a few days to save me! It was actually first and second french horns behind the clarinet in the opening, and then a woodwind/horn chord. I'm not too happy that it sounded like a harmonica...

Thanks again! smiley)

Op. 5-Sonata for Oboe-III. Allegro con brio by cjdarnieder 2 years ago
Thanks for the feedback George. This was a concern for me as well...I have considered altering the tempo slightly...but I really wanted to push the limit of the instrument in this movement as far as agility goes. Although I certainly don't want any of my pieces "unplayable."

The ambiance of my pieces is being discussed frequently, unfortunately. I'm trying to remedy that by changing the reverb to different settings to see what I come up with. Chances are I'll be posting new MP3s soon that don't have this problem. smiley)

Op. 6-Three Pieces for Clarinet and Cello-III. Allegro con brio by cjdarnieder 2 years ago
Thank you very much! A trumpet work? Hmm...perhaps. More of a woodwind guy myself, but it'd be interesting to do something with brass. Maybe a brass quintet or a trumpet sonata is in order... smiley

Op. 6-Three Pieces for Clarinet and Cello-III. Allegro con brio by cjdarnieder 2 years ago
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm a huge fan of winds...to me, the woodwind section is like a giant crayon box full of different colors. You're probably right...I guess it's not very jazzy, but that was the idea when I first composed it a while back. I'm having difficulties with the rendering...is there any program I could use that doesn't cost a fortune? I already spent hundreds on Finale, and I don't really care to spend the same on something else.

Your insights have been extremely helpful. It's wonderful to have a composer of your caliber take the time to seriously evaluate my pieces. If there was any way you could give me some hints with the rendering, I'd appreciate it immensely! I want to make my work sound the best it possibly can!

Classy is how I would describe this piece. It paints a beautiful picture, and the music itself is really interesting. A wonderful jazz piece. Well done!

A bit repetitive, but I have to say that the original idea is really something. I may write classical music, but I'm a huge electronica fan, and I have to say I enjoyed this work.

Op. 8-String Quartet No. 1-III. Allegro pizzicato, alla humoresque. by cjdarnieder 2 years ago

I have a Garritan preset for "concert hall" on this piece...perhaps not the best setting for this piece. I'll have to look into it, maybe tweak a bit so it doesn't sound so distant. Thanks again!

Op. 8-String Quartet No. 1-I. Allegro con anima by cjdarnieder 2 years ago
Thanks for your comment. There are multiple layers going on at the beginning and it wasn't necessarily meant to be melodic either. But I appreciate a good melody as well. I'll have to listen to your stuff. Thanks again!

Op. 13-Divertimento for String Quintet and Piano by cjdarnieder 2 years ago
Thank you so very much! Unfortunately, even though I wrote in harmonics and Bartok pizzicato, my program doesn't play them back correctly. I will certainly check Notion out...I have heard of it before. I assume you use this to compose your music as well?

Again, thank you. The comparison to Schoenberg is a huge compliment.
Op. 3-Preludes for Piano-IV. Adagio sostenuto by cjdarnieder 2 years ago
Composed. And yes, it is somewhat disconnected at points, I agree. Cohesiveness was a problem when I first started composing. Thanks for your comment!
