No Point In Staying Too Long by davidmayer 2 months ago
Thanks Tom, LunaBleu and my dear friend Woofmeister. Your comments are very much appreciated. John, I normally write stuff in safe voice mode these days but as Carter devised this riff spontaneously and we recorded it immediately on his iphone we stuck with this.
it's in the ice a box by woofer3 6 months ago
This is just so much fun I don't know where to start. The production is so authentically late 1950s it is almost as if you experienced the period first hand and I know you are too young for that. So you must have picked this up from listening to the Greatest Hits of Cliff Richard(s) or perhaps Showaddy Waddy those maestros of authentic rock n Roll nuance and subtelty.

Anywho! you must do a similar treatment for my ITalian Friends based on Bunga Bunga Berlesconi. it is begging for a Woofer treatment.

My score 1 out of ten for showaddyequesicity . 15 out of ten for everything else

Eine Meisterwerk! Three Ziegs and five Heils for the Woofmeister!

Just like the Third Reich this song starts very pleasantly and positively with images of Autobahns and workers holidays, and dressing up in brown shirts and attending fun filled rallies but underneath the nasty Nazis are working their horrible magic.

A Question though! your deflation of the arrogant posturing Nazis using comedy and sarcasm is extremely effective and always very entertaining. Like "who do you think you are kidding mr Hitler". But these guys were hideous mass murderers? Just a thought! about how current pain evokes a different response to knowledge of pain in the past?
be kind to a killer by woofer3 7 months ago
not disapproval! just depressing that children might be put at risk. I guess the rule they are applying was formulated for the best possible reasons. In the past vulnerable people ( not murderers or criminals ) have been incarcerated in prisons and mental institutions for life and their cases have never been reviewed. This law forces the state to ensure that such mis-justices do not happen again. I do not expect that he will be released but as this has happened before and people have reoffended ( your favourite subject Venerables for example) so we are right to worry about the system.

Your word smithery gets ever slippery and slithery. I hates opera but I loves night at the opera. Hey Boss you got a piano in there?

I found myself harmonising on this. The piano as vocal is a great idea but then you could always make that clavichord talk. Things are slowing down in my world of work. I will be in touch soon.

Thanks Vixen. but I'm definitely not the droid they are looking for in this song. We enjoyed making it though.
Paint you Blue by davidmayer 1 year ago
Disclaimer:
No humans or animals were injured during the making of this production. Any resemblance to characters dead or living is purely coincidental. We are just actors living out a screenplay. Sometimes I'm Austin Powers and sometimes I'm Doctor Evil.

Actually most of the other songs on this site are honest and heartfelt but this just followed a spontaneous idea to its logical conclusion.

Thank you brewchugger and pharmakeus for you kind words

Great song and as Groucho said "Anyone who says he can see through women is missing a lot"

Happy Christmas John N Von. Always the groom eh? Hang on! what is that saying?
Very nice track and extremely interesting construction Herr Woofer. You are definitely the Richard Stilgoe of the Rhondda. ( only joking)

I saw this topic on Tony Robinson's history's dirtiest jobs ( no pun intended- although? go on! you can maybe squeeze a little one out)

I wonder does the Dook need a groom. I think you should stop picking on our Hennery and start back again on the current shower.

PS Alphabetical order is very confusing for me. Apologies if I missed some.

vanessa's gastric band by woofer3 1 year ago
Its a pity that some of your fans don't know who you are talking about as this excellent diatribe would impress them even more. As it is they are just judging you on your cleverness and not on your acerbic and well aimed criticism of someone who I just cannot understand ever became a TV personality. She was on 8 out of ten cats this very night. Princess Anne opened our local school recently. I refused to attend. If you are going to get someone famous for being famous rather than having a negotiable talent I would have preferred someone from big brother or Britain's got no talent rather than a Royal sponger. A slightly slimmed down Vanessa might have tempted me - to throw eggs

Fragile credibility eh! sounds a bit poetic to describe the political process in this country. It's just a matter of choosing who will do the least worst job as no one is prepared to tinker with the old establishment stranglehold that controls our lives.

Still, at least we can live in our own little musical world

Great singing though if a little short - given the steam that must be coming from your ears at this time but very enjoyable
Eichmann's Lullaby by woofer3 2 years ago
THis is another entertaining and thought provoking addition to the Third Reich project. The BBC should dump Andrew Lloyd Webber and get you to start a weekly audition for the next "Eva" for the "Burning Hitler" musical. I don't think you could make it quite as cheesey or pointless as ALW but you could try. I am not sure what the BBC would think of using original music rather than ALW's classical rip offs though?

Eva Braun, Eva Braun, get off your back get into town don't let us down oh no-o no-o ( to the tune of grocer jack)

High On Sci-Fi by davidmayer 2 years ago
Thank you fellow space rock travellers. I would have to be raised in California like Frank to be able to do real cheesiness so this is the nearest I can get. Woofer sums it up. If this was Frank he would say it had "No Commercial Potential"

We had lots of fun on this track though- experimenting on various plug ins and using Glyn's new Apogee Duet firewire interface that makes it so easy to switch between instruments and functions. We reversed the guitar lead because I love the Beatles "Only Sleeping" break. Not entirely successful but seems appropriately "outa space"

I don't believe that Glyn's story of Alien Abduction but it would explain why he now has five testicles.
good morning Mr. Hitler. by woofer3 2 years ago
Brilliant track. I can see an animated music dvd in the future. Don't be stoopid be a smarty, come and join the nazi party. In the Hitler clip at the end he mentions the communists, the gays, the jews, and the blacks, I am not sure if he was being critical about them or not as this does not translate very clearly into english
welcome to the world of martin bormann - [02-02] by woofer3 2 years ago
wow! you have gone from genuine bitterness and pissedoffiness to genuine comedy brilliance over the past few years. This acerbic critique of Nazism shows that you now have the required cynicism, tempered by the understanding that nothing ever changes, that is needed to produce original comedy.
I love this track. I laughed out loud at times. I have a book about the search for Bormann somewhere that you should read. Bormann acted like Radar in MASH. He controlled Hitler and the third reich without anyone really knowing. Santayana said that those who do not remember the past are condemned to re-live it. Bormann and Blair & Brown and Cameraman are examples of his warning.

Excellent Woofsky. Although knowing some of the early stuff we did with deliberate scratchy sounds I can't help thinking this might be an early April Fool's Day present.
demons in the house of plenty by woofer3 2 years ago
Woofer has been on the ball politically for sometime. Check out Short Clare Short from June 2006 and the Man who would be King. He should have been on the panel for the Iraq enquiry asking questions in the form of a song.

Incidentally! Margaret Thatcher introduced the current expenses system to try to hide the true cost of being an MP. I agree that Brown should have sorted it but he is quite out of his depth unfortunately.
demons in the house of plenty by woofer3 2 years ago
Wow! did I mention cynical? I am ashamed to say that I agree with you but am fearful at the motives of the Tory Telegraph. This only harms left wing parties trying to make a difference (if failing)

The house of Commons is a corrupt, establishment organisation. Imagine what it will be like when the corrupt establishment party itself, under Cameron get their hands on power later this year.

You'd better be prepared to write more songs later in 2010

Great Hymn though and great lyrics. Its a pity it is so true

You've got such pretty fingers john its almost like they have been hacked off some brilliant pre-war black piano guru and grafted on to your cynical white body in some bizarre Frankenstein experiment.

I heard these things were going on in Cardiff in the 1950s but never believed them until now.

I am going to pay more attention to your hands the next time I see them! I want to see the joins.

don't know what's come over you by woofer3 2 years ago
Sorry to get a bit serious here- maybe its the wine! I guess this is Woofer the actor getting into the role and imagining a real situation but this is a great song with bags of feeling. I think this is the most honest you have written because it moves me ( and I can't see how its done- Muddy Waters). I think the balance between vocals and backing needs a remix because the vocal deserve much more prominence- and this brings me to the artwork. I think you have subconsciously selected something that is very empathetic to this song. The balloon heart drifting away soon to be out of sight, the hand reaching but not really trying to catch it, perhaps realising that its over. The composition of the painting by Danielle also shows a very mature understanding of space ( I'll explain that sometime)wonderful stuff!

"Somehow eternity
almost seems possible
as you embrace.
And yet
when you've got past
the fear in that first
exchange of glances"

Marvelous! I did it! I read my first poem by Rilke whilst listening to your track.
Oh smile, Where are you going? by Rusticalia 2 years ago
This is a very good track. I was at Castle Duino last year and used a photo I took of an amazing atmospheric condition at sea for my song Queen of Pain (Approximately) . I'll have to check out Rilke's work and play this song whilst I read it. I can see how he must have been inspired by the place. The views are breath taking. I felt really envious of not being able to sit on the balcony overlooking the Adriatic strumming my guitar and drinking coffee everyday. ( even if the Nazis were in the basement)
Simply Beautiful Blues by albumflaps 2 years ago
Excellent! when you work out everything beforehand it can get a little stiff so I think its always best to get it out there and then pick the best bits and try to keep the same feel under more controlled conditions. Not easy I know, but that's what I do with Glyn who is a great intuitive guitarist and a wonderfully sensitive interpreter of mood, but hates it when he has recreate the licks later.

I don't remember giving you permission to use that photo of my wife? and have you seen my little willy postcard?

This IS classic Welsh Rock as you assert above. Reminiscent of Idwal and the Iechyd Ddas that marvellous 60s rock band from Llaregub.

Didn't you play washboard in that group? or was it Triangle?

Another facet of the woofmeister that most people have not seen before. I really like this but then I'm an old Hank Williams fan from way back. I like the clever meter in the first line which is very Williams-like and keeps you guessing. I would recommend getting Carter to put some slide guitar on it but people might think you are taking the mick. excellent stuff, Number one in the Nashville charts by August

Brilliant!! This is a great track but a little restrained for the subject matter. I guess you cannot get any vitriol into JSB. Not like you can with Rock&Roll. I can imagine the medieval Burghers of Brussels commissioning a similar arrangement to show their displeasure at the influx of tourists wishing to see the little urinating boy. Have you come to see the Breugels? The paintings by Bosch? or the Roger Van de Weydens? no! we came to see the the Belgian boy with a corkscrew cock.
